verify this

I can't believe I'm writing this again... I HATE WORD VERIFICATION!!!!!!

There are still so many blogs that use it and it just sucks. I am tired, I have very little free time - I DO NOT want to spend it trying to decipher stupid letters and numbers that are just horrid to read. I have decent eyesight and still struggle. It is also impossible to enter the nonsensical words when I'm trying to leave a comment using my phone. This has to stop. Why are google doing away with reader and not word verification??!!!

Only allow registered users to comment and/or moderate comments, that will stop spam. Word verification just stops people commenting that actually want to!!

Please, please, please people turn the horrible thing off! I am leaving comments and asking people to switch it off and then I will just stop commenting when I see it. END OF.

Join me in the hatred and spread some positivity with the button linking to my original ranting post about it!!

I'm going to try really hard to stop moaning and come back with something thoroughly happy next time!

To cheer myself up I bought some pretty tulips this morning. It also helps that the sun is shining despite the bitter cold.

  1. I hate it too, and it really puts me off commenting sometimes, which is a shame.

  2. It drives me mad too!
And not only is it struggling to see it, but if I wander away from the computer mid-comment it times out and then I have to do it again!!!

  3. No - really - tell us how you really feel - LOL!!! Yeah - I have this same problem with Off the Wall Fridays - bloggers want comments but they leave the verification on - so there are so many blogs to encourage and say nice things to - its gets to be a pain.

  4. With you all the way on this!

  5. Woot woo!!! I HATE word verification. I just want to say nice things about what people are making and instead I have to try to make my iPad recognise words that aren't words and my eyes to recognise the difference between n's and h's. Drives me crazy!! I often just skip posting my comment, because I don't have the energy to try to decifer blurry photos that don't make sense. Down with Word Verification!!!!

  7. Got the button and it's on the blog. Like everyone else, I hate word verification. If people would just start changing their settings to no anonymous comments they would be sorted, and we would not rant. That being said, I got so wound up the other day that halfway through the word verification process I just hit random keys - and it still posted the comment.

  8. I am so with you and I often abandon a comment if I need to verify. When I stopped anonymous comments 99.9% of the spam disappeared. I will put up your button and join you in the campaign. I too have limited time when I read blogs.

    1. Been thinking about blocking anonymous lately because I keep getting weird spam, but I was wondering what the drawbacks are?

  9. agreed. I don't comment on word verification blogs

  10. Thank you thank you thank you. I put the button on my blog. Here's hoping it helps.

  11. I have to agree with you. 99% of the time I'm commenting from my phone. If I can't get the verification right the second time I give up. And I do have quite a bit of trouble figuring out what numbers and letters are actually there! Hope your tupips help :)

  12. Have you ever tried listening to the verification! It is impossible to decipher what they are saying. Crazy!

  13. Ditto, turned mine off a long time ago. I do have to deal with some spam issues, but as long as I don't start getting spam 3 times a day, I'll keep the verification off.

  14. Estou com você.Não tenho medo do SPAM

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why don't you tell us how you really feel? ;-)

  16. Amen sista! *high five* It's a total, fecking pain in the arse.

  17. No word verification on any of my blogs. I hate it, too. I do moderate my comments after the first day. That way I catch all the spammers, before their spam is posted. For some reason spammers never comment on the first day!

  18. With you all the way! Di x

  19. Arg CAPTCHA is the scorge of blogging. It does my head in! Those things look more like a bowl of spilt spaghetti than words.

I started using CAPTCHA bypass software called rumola which reads and fills in the CAPTCHAs for me. It was either that or give up blogging or, throwing my laptop out of the window with rage! I would recommend it to anyone who loathes CAPTCHA!

    Cheers,

    Ally

Oh yes, and the address would be helpful! skipinput.com

  20. I don't really like it much either. I don't think I've got it on my blog, but it is possible that Google made it standard at some point and I didn't know it, so if you comment, let me know.

As for Reader I'm coming to the feeling that in the long run we might all be better off using something else. I'm trying out Feedly right now. Using my Google log on, it was seamless. But they might not get their back in in place in time. And there are other options.

I wonder, however, how long they will keep Blogger going. We might all have to find another place to go for that as well.

  21. I hate it, too, and usually don't comment on the blogs that require it. But bloggers can turn it off and just allow only registered users to comment--like you said :)

  22. Someone need a snooze? I agree though xxx

  23. Sing it, sister! I hate that darn thing, too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You are totally right, it is very hard to see the squashed up letters and when they have numbers it is so darn dim I can't make them out. I hope your campaign does some good.

  25. lol tell us how you really feel about it!! I unknowingly had WV on until a kind person commented and said it was her 3rd try because she couldn't see it.I turned it off right away! Have a great day- I'm going to add the wv button u shared.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I so agree!! I just give and don't leave a comment after one try.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm pretty sure i switched it off mine, now i'm paranoid i left it on, hope not because it is really, really annoying! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I hear ya sister - putting the button on now. Now go have a lie down :)

  29. Are those tulips in a real milk bottle? Ahhh.
I haven't lived in England for 20 years, but that bottle just makes me smile.
    (Also the tulips :)

  30. I hates it I do. I can never guess it right the first time anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agree totally but something else I hate is getting to the comments box. Sometimes so many others have commented that I have to scroll way, way down the page through dozens of comments. Some blogs have a "jump to comments form" link at the top of the comments, which is much easier.

  32. Ha ha, great rant Lucy: completely agree

  33. i am going to have to do something, i get 5 or 6 spam's a day

    ReplyDelete
  38. Like Di before me, I can barely read them even with my glasses! But you need to calm down dear! Go snuggle a baby or something!

  39. As a good girl I changed it last time you mentioned it ;-)

  40. You won't find it at my blog!

  41. Is it me or the words and numbers are smaller and fuzzier

    ReplyDelete
  42. Word verification SUCKS. Never have & Never will have it on my blog.
Your tulips are beautiful, since it is snowing here I sewed up my own tulips to enjoy :0)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I discovered it was turned on by default on my blog awhile back..I couldn't believe it! So some people just might not realize that it's on. All of the spam comments I have ever gotten are anonymous so turning that off should definitely solve it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Amen!! It's off on my blog too! I hate, hate, hate word verification!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ugh, I know! I STILL stumble across word verification all the time. Blurg. I probably fail them 30% of the time, too ;-)
