Glampervan
I made my eldest daughter a Glampervan cushion!
I initialed it for her and because I'd made a Skull tooth fairy cushion for my son I thought I'd better make one of the windows a pocket. Only fair they have the same.
She helped pick the fabrics, and she adores it... just waiting on a cushion insert to arrive to fill it!
and it looks like this one is getting ready to be mobile...
or not!

This time paper plates for Easter bonnets! I got the inspiration from here should you want to make some.
In total random style this is my kids new favourite game. I saw them doing this and asked what they were doing and the answer, obviously, was 'we are being the floor!'. We were all in hysterics!
I am very proud of my children's strange imaginations and the things they find amusing!!

All in all I'm having a pretty good week. I'm really excited about all the projects I have going on right now and squeezing in bits here and there whenever I get the chance. I am missing quilts though and although I love all the hand sewing and little projects it would be nice to get back to sewing a quilt on my machine...

and finally a great excuse and opportunity to sew a pretty quilt! Fluffy Sheep Quilting is heading to a quilt festival in June and I agreed to make a quilt. I really enjoy sewing DP blocks and very kindly the lovely Cindy put her Sizzix (seriously those people should give me one!!) to good use and sent me these fabulous DP cuts of Little Matryoshka prints and Essex Linen in natural so I can get to work.

Seriously these are so so pretty, and those kitten and fairy notecards are on sale at £2 for eight cards! GO CLICK away, that is a bargain!! I haven't met Claire but love her work and she always sends things so speedily and beautifully packaged.

Skull cushion tutorial
A couple of people have asked me if they could make my skull tooth fairy cushions for their children, so to make it easier I've made a pattern and a tutorial for you to follow. I also made this one for my son in the process!
Here's what you'll need, along with your sewing machine and thread obviously:
skull pattern print out
one 12x12" piece of fabric for the front
one 12x12" piece of fabric for the back
approximately 10x5" plain white/neutral fabric for the skull
a small piece of fusible interfacing and bondaweb for the pattern pieces
two 11.5x11.5" fusible fleece (or wadding)
stuffing (I used as much as I could get in!)
To begin print out the skull pattern. It should print in landscape. If you download it the dimensions will change, although this is not really an issue and you can make the skull as little or large as you like by playing with your printer settings.
Please let me know if you have any issues accessing or printing it.
Cut out both of the pattern pieces.
Cut out the sections marked with an 'X' for the eyes and nostrils.
Trace round the skull top onto the back (paper side) of the bondaweb and cut it out (do not cut the eyes or nostrils of the bondaweb).
Cut a piece of fusible interfacing the same size as the skull jaw (bottom part of the pattern).
Following the manufacturers instructions attach the bondaweb skull and piece of jaw interfacing to the plain fabric:
Now you can cut out the eyes and nostrils. I use my embroidery scissors for this as those little nostrils can be tricky:
Take the jaw and fold over the top 1/4", press and topstitch:
Grab your two pieces of 12x12" fabrics. If you are using fusible fleece follow the manufacturers instructions and attach to the back of both pieces of fabric (if you want to quilt these do it now!).
Centre your skull on your front piece of fabric:
Put the jaw piece to one side, peel the backing off the bondaweb on the skull top and follow manufacturers instructions to attach it by pressing to the fabric:
Now applique the skull top. I chose to fmq round the outside edges twice, I like the rustic look but you could also use a straight stitch or blanket stitch.
Take the jaw piece and press the sides and bottom over 1/4":
Pin the jaw in place under the skull top:
Stitch round the sides and bottom of the jaw close to the edges (do not sew the top!! It's a pocket!).
Take your back piece of fabric and the front of the cushion, put them right sides together and pin in place :
Sew round all the edges of the cushion but remember to leave about a 4" gap at the bottom for turning and reverse stitch at the beginning and end of your sewing.
I like to strengthen the corners by stitching across them and then clip them for neater corners:
Turn your cushion right side out through the opening. Then give the cushion a good press, especially at the opening - it makes it easier to sew it shut:
Stuff the cushion and then sew the opening closed. I hand sew the opening using a ladder stitch.
And your cushion is done!
My son was thrilled with his.

It is a wonder
that I've accomplished anything with all my ill children (who are doing better now). I have finally managed to finish a couple of bee blocks that I have been working on for two weeks! Seriously. They aren't hard at all but there were many interruptions to my sewing, I have been cross stitching and I had to finish the May quilt top, which is done but I can't show it yet!
So first up I made these two summer inspired blocks for Jan in Bee A Brit Stingy, using this tutorial:
And this one for Debra in Scrappy? Sew Bee It!, using this tutorial (I added a couple of sails!)

I really like both of these quilts and it makes me long for a Summer holiday! It seems to be a theme because these gorgeous Glamping fabrics just arrived from Charise after I won her giveaway:
I already have a plan for some of them. If it works I will have one very happy daughter.
I am kind of feeling bad that I'm separating the fabrics. Does anyone else feel oddly guilty when they take fabrics from a collection rather than using them together?? I like mixing it up but then I think the designers have gone to all that trouble of coordinating a line... oh well. I shall just do as I please, better to make something I love!

I can't believe I'm writing this again... I HATE WORD VERIFICATION!!!!!!
There are still so many blogs that use it and it just sucks. I am tired, I have very little free time - I DO NOT want to spend it trying to decipher stupid letters and numbers that are just horrid to read. I have decent eyesight and still struggle. It is also impossible to enter the nonsensical words when I'm trying to leave a comment using my phone. This has to stop. Why are google doing away with reader and not word verification??!!!
Only allow registered users to comment and/or moderate comments, that will stop spam. Word verification just stops people commenting that actually want to!!
Please, please, please people turn the horrible thing off! I am leaving comments and asking people to switch it off and then I will just stop commenting when I see it. END OF.
