Double Wedding Ring block
The Double Wedding Ring is a beautiful, traditional block that is associated with love, romance and of course marriage. For fabric lovers, this is such a fun block to play with, plan layouts and stitch! This is a bucket list block, one that all quilters will recognise and want to sew. It works wonderfully with either traditional or modern fabrics and is open to lots of variation within the pattern. I have made two blocks, one English Paper Pieced and one hand pieced (they are two different techniques) and will be demonstrating both methods in my upcoming online class. I had so much fun stitching the blocks and want to share my process here. Keep reading to see my two very different versions of the block...
rose star progress and instagram giveaway ✴
I actually managed to get my rose star basted yesterday! This is the first time I've ever thread basted and I'm pleased with how it went. It should make hand quilting much easier.
I did my usual stick the backing to the floor and layer method, Clare (my quilt is her rose star tutorial) recommended the rolling method and after watching this Youtube video I will be trying that next time. It would be nice to not have to take up so much room!
I have the perfect thread, which matches the backing. My plan is to quilt the centre hexies and I'm still thinking about what else to do. Any suggestions are welcome?!

focus ~ FAL Q1 2016
Like many quilters I have lots of projects on the go but rather than list them all in the hopes of finishing them I'm going to narrow it down to keep it realistic and stay motivated!
Here's my Finish-A-Long list for Quarter one:
1, 2 and 3. The three #therearenowords quilts. One for Nat and her family, two for the grandparents. These are in various stages of near completion and will be handed over to Nat in February, after which I will share them here.
4. A magazine commission with an impending deadline - here's a sneak peek:
5. It's all basted (has been for a while) and I am going to hand quilt it with perle - I had a quilting plan but have since forgotten it so I need to have a look again and come up with something!
I would like to check all this off at the end of the quarter and approach them all with great enthusiasm! I keep a copy of this list in my planner so I can refer to it and remind myself of what I said I'd complete.

and I got the t-shirt to prove it! This is limited edition by Samarra Khaja for Pink Castle Fabrics. I am hoping they will do more designs because it's brilliant. The ink is silver metallic (but not glittery) and the t-shirt is so soft, I got mine oversized so I could feel comfy and wear it with jeans or leggings for everyday. This is definitely my new favourite t-shirt!
I have been doing some epp, working on a couple of cute appliqué patterns that I will show you soon.
The urge to do some hand quilting has been strong, so I got my Star Crossed quilt basted and will be getting on with this whenever I can!

Sometimes, though, things go horribly wrong. This is my third attempt at this block and it's not going well. I'm giving it one more go and then throwing in the towel!
Today though I was getting on with basting this quilt I'm making for Cindy (I used this pattern):

SUPER DUPER awesomeness! I had several nice things happen to me today; a visit from mum, another visit from a best friend and her gorgeous son, general merriment and then...
I WON! I actually won some really pretty appliques from Barb over at Bejeweled Quilts, they were cut with the Fall Medley Die using her Accuquilt. I'm so excited and am not sure yet what I'll make with them but I'll show you when I do. My kids are obsessed with nature and my kitchen could do with some prettying up - any ideas?
To top it off I got a little package in the post too! I even love the stamps:
I didn't win Melinda's giveaway of her (so called) ugly block but she was super kind and sent me some scraps anyway. I'm going to make a purple and turquoise/aqua quilt so these are just perfect!

I have been thinking a lot about how I use my space and what I want it to be. I've kind of hidden it in the corner and tried to keep everything tidied away - until you all kindly gave me some suggestions!
I'm now quilting loud and proud and have a little design area (calling it a design wall would be going too far, it's so small!!). Big enough to hold a couple of blocks though:
It looks nice next to our house rules. They are important to me but may need to move!!
I've also taken some advice about my daughter's quilt and have made a drastic decision... I have CUT IT IN HALF! It makes so much sense. She's only one, it's massive, what was I thinking??!! This way I can donate the other 'half' to our local children's centre, who are raising money for their sensory room. A great space for babies and children with special needs. My two love this room and it would be sad if they couldn't make the improvements it needs. I actually spoke to them a month ago about doing this and can't believe it's taken me so long but I'm sure they'll still appreciate it! It also saves me debating what quilt to make!
So here's one half ready to be quilted:
And A Boy Named Sue is ready to go:
It will be quilting a go go for me, with 2 (smaller) quilts to bind!
