stashing + swaps

28 August 2016

I just couldn't help myself!! Another beautiful package from The Weavers Mill and more scrumptious Liberty. The addiction is real.

I bought 3mm flat faux suede leather cord in light grey, brown and pink2, a square of Wild Perennial A (the bottom fabric) and Wiltshire B (as part of her Thank You offer), some lovely free scrap pieces and a great selection of Liberty bias binding because I have plans!!

It is absolutely stunning and I can't wait to get to the point where this can be added to a quilt I'm working on. I just hope it works out like it looks in my head! Bias binding is the perfect way to inject a little Liberty glamour into projects :)

Next I got some very cool holographic glitter vinyl, impossible to take a good picture of but it's amazing! An Ebay find, click here for the listing - it is the silver glittery option.

My Patchwork of the Crosses BOM box arrived from Sew & Quilt, more gorgeous fabrics:

After my visit to Liberty I shared out some of my new fabrics and Liberty stash with friends on Instagram and here are some of the swaps I have received...

This bundle from @dittanym, some unusual and gorgeous Liberty prints:

A fabulous selection of bright and interesting Liberty prints from @jenniferletchet

Delightful dots galore from @piecedbrain, these are going to be so useful for lots of projects:

Thank you so much Dittany, Jennifer and Denise!! ❤❤❤

Now I should go use some fabric and make something ;)

a hat trick

12 December 2013
Less blogging more sewing going on around here...

I finished this second Rainbow Log Cabin quilt and it's in my shop

I used happy bright colours and a bit of low volume to balance it out.
There's lots of fun panels, strawberries and a pot of jam?! So cute!

I also finished another embroidered custom cushion with pretty girly prints:

Another custom order from a dear friend, a bright and bold play mat, backed with soft flannel:

This was not an easy make because I picked the highest loft batting. While this will be great for a baby it was not great for my machine. I attempted quilting and it went horribly wrong. So I had a re-think and after seeing Rebecca's post I decided tacking was the way to go. No way was I going to do fmq when my walking foot couldn't even deal, so I turned to what I love - a bit of hand stitching.

I did some little star stitches, coordinating the thread with the fabrics on the front. The back looks like a chesterfield sofa and it stops the fabric from shifting around. I hope the family it's gifted too will love it!

And I do enjoying wrapping and sending out my handmade wares:

Right back to the making, I have another custom quilt and a yoga bag that need finishing!

Alphabet embroidered quilt

29 November 2013

I am really proud of this quilt. It took me a while to decide what to do with those cute bear, alphabet and number panels but a little bit of embroidery and some bright modern fabric makes for an adorable baby quilt!

I used different stitches to highlight details on each letter block.

Of course there's a 'Q' quilt!

mmm french knot cherries!

I did straight line quilting with my trusty cone of Aurifil 50wt in 2021.

The quilt is for sale in my Etsy shop.

I used different bold modern fabrics and dots and the backing is Riley Blake, Apple of My Eye - I really love that print! The black and white stripe binding worked perfectly.

Don't miss out - check out this post for a great discount at Fluffy Sheep Quilting until 31st Nov!

just the one

01 October 2013
This is maybe the first time I have no mosaic, no round up of all the things I've made. I finished one quilt this month and it's available in my Etsy shop. This is my first truly scrappy quilt and I'm really proud of it.

I am working on a lot of projects and I'm know I will get more things finished this month so I'm happy with my one pretty quilt.

Le Challenge

One project I'm really looking forward to is my make for Le Challenge this month, the theme is THRILLER - there's a big chance it might not work as well as I envision it it my head but the only thing to do is make it and find out! Head over to Le Challenge to read all about my fabric inspiration for this month and join in the fun for your chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop.

This month I also welcomed a new sponsor to my blog, Minerva Crafts. They are kindly offering you all a 10% discount, just use the code CHARM10 at the checkout!

Traditional Liberty

06 August 2013
**those that only love modern fabrics and not vintage Liberty can leave now**

I got my hands on some beautiful Liberty scraps.

All medium weight cotton and home dec fabrics not quilting cottons.

They would be stunning cushions, accents or little bags.

So I put them in the shop for you ;)

bye bye July

01 August 2013
Baby Bear Paw Quilt - available to buy here, teacher's cushion, owl tooth fairy cushion - available to buy here, apple bibs, Catwoman cushion, Architextures / Liberty cushion, dolls and coin trays, Yoda cushion

That was July.

I really felt I learnt a lot this past month. To sew what I love, to be brave, to be selfish and to trust myself.

All things I plan on doing more of in August... so bring it on.
I'm going to be hitting back at life this month, in a good way!

The love of notecards

01 December 2012
Before I declare my love, a quick round up of some of the things I've made during November:

Retro Flower Quilt, Vintage sewing pouch, Christmas table cloth, vintage embroidery, Kids 'Good' reward chart, donkey basket, Starry Starry notebook cover, Bienvenue Bebe Quilt.

I also made some Rose Star blocks and blocks for the How Far Will You Go? QAL.

All in all a great month, I imagine December will be a little less productive as I am getting more and more tired - also it really is hard to sit still for too long so can only manage bits of sewing here and there. I do have one quilt I want finished before Christmas though and a couple of little projects in the works but we'll see - comfort is the key in these last few weeks of pregnancy!

Now I have to share...

I have discovered the most wonderful Etsy shop! It is called Made In Pixieland and I came across it when I was searching for reasonable priced cute notecards because I can never have too many of those.

I struck gold - Claire is so talented, she draws the most adorable pictures and she designs prints and cards and other gorgeousness. She uses 100% recycled card and paper, as well as vegetable based inks.

My order arrived quick time and I have already placed another, that's how much I love the quality and the whimsical nature of the cards made me smile so much.

I'm happy to support a small business in the UK, I'm happy she has 'green' credentials but mostly I can't help just fall in love with her characters and vintage style.

I highly recommend a fun trip to Pixieland and I know I'm saving for one of those ballerina baubles and a delightful print.

p.s. just to clarify - I don't know Claire, she did not ask me to write anything, I genuinely just love her products and there is no commission involved Susan ;) but I do hope you'll all support her!

p.p.s. Those fruit loop muffins did not go well the other day. Not sure what I did wrong but I will be making courgette muffins this weekend - yummy and I'm sure a bit healthier.
