my last quilts

30 December 2018
foundation paper pieced hot air balloon Liberty fabric

I have two quilts that I finished recently, both made for Sewing Quarter. These are the last quilts I will make for them (for now at least) as I start something new. This one is the pretty Hot Air Balloon quilt pattern by Sarah Ashford.

girly pincushion and planning

23 May 2014

Getting to grips with my FAL list and I finished up this sweet pincushion, it really took no time and I love it's chunky feel. I like a deep pincushion and this is a great size. It's from the book Quilting on the Goby Jessica Alexandrakis and I think I will make more because it's a fun little gift to give.

I let my four year old Joan pick the fabrics (can you tell?!) and it's a smiley little pincushion as a result.

Here's one from Jessica's book and I love that you could make this look really modern or give it a vintage vibe. It would also be a fun way to show off a favourite button.

I've been cracking on with my WIPS too and I finally got round to making the March block for the Classic Meets Modern QAL:

I crazy love doing DP blocks and I always use this method without pins. So much quicker and always a good result when I use my quarter inch foot too.

I've also prepared some lovely scrappy binding in preparation for my le challenge project. This months theme is charity.

Lastly I would be so grateful if you would vote for my Bees of a Feather quilt in the hand quilted category of the Blogger's Quilt Festival - you can vote for it here

So much to sew, catch you later!

littleish

01 May 2013

Last month I was hoping to get quilts finished in April, that didn't happen. I made some fun little things though:

ring cushion, pop flower coasters, bandana bibs, sunglasses case

I am super pleased with them all and I'm also loving all the projects I've got on the go. I think having less time to sew has made me focus, I'm enjoying keeping up with my bees and getting blocks done each month. Little bits keep me busy.

My current focus is getting this made into a little giveaway prize for the Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway day, be sure to come back here on Monday!

And I have finished the DP quilt top for Cindy, the gorgeous fabrics are from Fluffy Sheep Quilting and I shall be quilting this beauty very soon! Sorry I haven't had time to press it yet but you get the idea, I used this pattern from Moda Bakeshop.

I also got some goodies in the post, I won a half yard bundle of Kona Modern Quilts in the pacific colourway from Tammy at Marmalade Fabrics:

Thank you Tammy! I'm looking forward to cutting this up and making something fun! I would love to find a good quilt pattern to show off the prints, any ideas?

time to sew

05 April 2013

I love when that happens! This week hubbie is off work so I am taking advantage at every opportunity to get some sewing done.

The only finish are these bee blocks, I loved making these ones and they are brilliant designs!

First up, these Scrappy Sprouts for Di (apologies for the slightly yellow tint on these pictures):

Next these ones for Nicky, I can see these being totally addictive! Her tutorial is super easy to follow too:

These are already on the way but I realise I forgot to do siggy blocks, so ladies I will get them to you asap, sorry!

I also managed to chain my way through all these DP blocks, now just need to press them and arrange them into rows. All this yummy fabric is from Fluffy Sheep Quilting, I'm making a quilt for Cindy.

Not all perfect though, I did do this a couple of times:

**make sure you check out Le Challenge to have all your questions answered and join in the fun**

Hungover Drunkard's Path finished on Friday!

02 December 2011
I rarely drink, hardly ever, but last night I had two close friends from High School come over and I had two glasses of white wine. Two. That's it. Yet today I feel horrible and have a banging headache that will not go away. Is there something about being over 30 that's means you can no longer feel spritely the next day?!

Anyway, despite the hangover I finished binding my Drunkard's Path QAL quilt today! I love it and hope my MIL will love to receive it for Christmas :)

I think my nifty walking foot device helped! And I love the concentric circles against the solids and florals. Sorry for the poor light in the pictures but it's just that time of year (actually I'm in England, it's often like that!!). I've said it before but I thoroughly loved being part of this Quilt Along and you can click the button to join in at anytime. I am completely in love with Drunkard's Path quilts and will certainly use them again. So thank you to Needle and Spatula and Obsessive Crafting Disorder for hosting such a fantastic QAL and introducing me to my favourite blocks! If you head over to their blogs you can see more finished quilt tops and undoubtedly be inspired :)

Drunkard's Path QAL

I know I've been crazy lucky since I started blogging and please don't hate me but the gorgeous FQ bundle I won from Crazy Old Ladies arrived today. It's her new Hall of Fame Collection for Michael Miller. I just adore it:

That's the little one picking out her favourites! She has good taste :)

And just so you don't think my life is perfect here's the decorations I successfully retrieved from the attic yesterday:

It's a good job I didn't hurt myself on our attic ladder because it was just NOT worth it!!! Seriously a garland made from holographic cardboard and wool (kiddie project last year!!) and the most PATHETIC fake tiny tree with horrible lights and some 'interesting' decorations. The coke bottle I actually love and the yummy mummy was from a friend I used to work with but what is the rest??!! I don't even know - I think the hat might be one of those free ones from an innocent smoothie drink and there is one I got when I worked for Estee Lauder. This is terrible. Thank goodness I made that cute advent calendar or we'd really have nothing.

Ok it's not Christmas yet Lucy!! I'll be down to the pound shop on Monday and see what other treats I can find :) I might just go for the tacky and cheap look and embrace the shame! Just in case you think I have no taste, let me point you in the direction of some beautiful decorations and a gorgeous tree at making rebecca lynne, that is what I'm aiming for next year :)
It's never going to happen this year because I still have 3 more quilts to make (maybe 4!). Hopefully lots more finishes to show you this month but for now I'll be linking this one up to Crazy Mom Quilts and Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday at Quokka Quilts this week!

Thoughtful Thanks for Thursday

17 November 2011
I've actually done some sewing that's not a quilt!! hehehehe!
I wanted to make some oven gloves as a Christmas present so it was a great coincidence that Sara at Sew Sweetness is hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner Challenge. It gave me a deadline so I would actually get it done. I ended up making two, both patterns were suggested by Sara so that took some of the guesswork out for me!! Thanks Sara ;)
This is my first attempt at oven gloves but I'm pretty happy with them:

For the oval one I used this tutorial from buggspot. I realise the binding I used doesn't really match but I could not be bothered making any and it's what I had lying around (you may well see more of it in the future!!). I have to say I actually already made square sandwiches (as in the tutorial used below) and then  cut the oval shape out, so I didn't follow the tutorial exactly. I had initially planned on making two like the one below but then changed my mind and thought I'd try the oval because it's a bit different! The tutorial was very easy to follow and it was fun to make!

This one is my mullet oven glove, business in front.., party in the back :) I used this great tutorial from the highly entertaining Raechel Myers.
I did fmq spirals on both and while I like it I didn't do a great job and next time I think I'd stick to straight lines!

I've also taken some pictures of my Drunkard's Path Quilt to show you. I'm sticking to a pretty layout I saw on Kate's blog Needle and Spatula, while you're there go and take a look at the Drunkard's Path Quilt Along and join in the fun! I chose this layout because the quilt will be a gift for my mother-in-law and I think it goes nicely with the fabrics:

I am enjoying making these blocks FAR more than I thought I would!! Honestly I thought Drunkard's Path would be so difficult and I would hate it but I fancied a challenge. So glad I decided to join the QAL, it has given me confidence and all the posts have been fantastic. The button is on the right over there so have a click and if you can't join now bookmark it for the future, you'll be so glad you did!
I know I've already babbled on to a few of you about how much fun this is but it is!! Easy too :)

I have been thinking about how much quilting is changing my life (dramatic?... maybe but true). It's so lovely to have found a hobbie that I enjoy so much. I love having the ability to make stuff, tangible things that I piece together! I have been pinning the binding on my Dead Simple quilt ready for sewing and as I sat (watching Bones - oh boy do I love that show), I was thinking I actually love doing this. I love pinning on binding. I love sewing it on (I do machine sew it, so shoot me!!), I love making patchwork, I love constructing blocks, I love choosing fabric... get the jist?! I'm trying to think of something I don't like about it (other than the odd fmq pattern). Sometimes I'm overwhelmed at the thought of cutting 200 squares or whatever but once I get in the swing of it I always enjoy myself.
Also it's less dangerous than my last hobby, Rollerderby - once I broke my elbow I had to rethink my priorities, changing a nappy one handed was not fun!

I'm one happy quilter linking up to Thursday Think Tank when rebecca is ready, if she's feeling well enough - maybe you could all go show her some love :)

p.s. Clearly I'm not PMSing anymore!!
