pretty and novel stash
This week I got a squishy fabric parcel from Fabricworm and I had stuffed that envelope full of sale goodies!
I'm trying to shop smart and after assessing what I already have in my stash I knew I needed some more good blender prints and I'm lacking fun prints for fussy cutting so I was on the hunt for those too.
First I couldn't resist this sweet fortune teller print, which is lawn and so beautiful to the touch. The Aneela Hoey print was one I had seen someone use and fell in love with it and Blueberry Park is always fabulous as it plays so nicely with other fabrics.

And I picked out some random prints that just drew me in with their cuteness! Like this playful cat border print and prints with hot pink in them:
Finally how great are these funky sewing themed prints?! I think these will make cute pouches and pincushions. Actually I'm sure that both these fabrics will find there way into lots of my projects, I can't resist those charming illustrations!

Sew Stitchy Pie needle case
My Auntie is currently taking her City and Guilds in Patchwork and Quilting so I thought a Stitchy Pie needle case would make a perfect present to help keep her needles organised.
I sat out in the garden and added some little bits of embroidery to the fabric:
The outer print and the binding are both Sew Stitchy by Aneela Hoey, which I bought from Pin It and Stitch.
I added a cute heart Kam snap and a row of hand quilting using Aurifil 12 weight thread #2277.
My Auntie has space above the needles to write on what the needles are for or the size. I organise mine by use but she may prefer something different so I left it blank.
And it folds up neatly so she can easily take it along to her classes! This gift was on my Finish-A-Long list so I can check it off and send it out ✓
It is so exciting to see people using my pattern and there are some super versions I would like to share with you...
Sarah Fielke made a gorgeous, rainbow dresden Stitchy Pie. The dots, gingham and button fabric are a winning combination!
Mrs Moog has made a couple, very different from each other but equally striking! One with cool Graffiti quilting, the other has perfect pops of pink and hand stitching:
Next some bright and really beautiful embroidery on this fancy version by nachtpedalquilts
Last but certainly not least, we have a lot more from roundrabbit. Nancy made a lovely stack of Stitchy Pies and has them for sale in the Round Rabbit shop - along with other handmade goods, including beautiful glazed buttons!

There are some fabrics that I just can not resist...
I saw the print (below right) in a different colourway on Kim's instagram, I might be an enabler but I'm also enabled 😉
A quick search and I found it at Fat Quarter Shop so ordered it along with some other lovelies!
Stripes in Fuschia on Navy, Mostly Manor by Victoria Findlay Wolfe and Fan Dots in Brown, Mostly Manor by Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
The whole Mostly Manor collection is gorgeous - I really love the stripes, the fan dots, the bouquets, the comb petals, the diamonds... go and look! It's a pretty mix of colours too, with some nice pastels for summer!
I picked some other paler prints:
Scallop Dot in Sorbet, Foxtail Forest by Rae Ritchie and Painted Gingham, Sommer by Sarah Jane in Cloud and Bloom.
And just because they are so pretty:
Stem Dot in Pink, Foxglove by Aneela Hoey and Foxgloves in Navy, Foxglove by Aneela Hoey.
Next up are some really gorgeous stickers. I used some as soon as I got them!

This sheet is foiled, so beautiful and shiny! They add some colour and pizzazz to my planner.
The sun has been shining here so it was time for the kids to have new sun hats. The girls both picked straw cat ones from H&M - adorable!
diy project life notebook and a kitty needleminder
I've made a couple of little things involving thread and fabric, though there's no difficult sewing involved!
The first is these little notebooks made from Project Life journaling cards. They end up 4 x 3" a perfect size to fit in my organiser / planner and handy to have just to scribble down ideas. I will be using them to keep my sewing and quilting project ideas in!
They were very simple, take one Project Life card (or piece of card that's 6 x 4") and fold in half. I then folded up some regular A4 printer paper and used a ruler to rip it into pieces that measure approx 3.75 x 5.75", I like those torn edges but you could cut the paper if you prefer. I used 10 pieces of paper in each notebook. Fold the paper in half and place inside the card. Using a strong needle, pierce through the card and paper - once in the middle, then make two holes above and below. Take some thread (I used perle), thread your needle making a small knot at one end and stitch through the centre. Stitch through the next hole and then through the one above, you are making a figure of eight essentially... come back through the holes until you are at the centre and then do the same thing on the other side. Once you are back though the centre, make a knot and snip off any extra thread. I decided to clip the corners because they were poking out a bit, you could use a punch or fingernail clippers to make the corners rounded if you prefer.
I decided to embellish them with some cute stickers!
Next I made a needle minder, I have been wanting to make one for ages! I bought some magnets (these are the perfect stength) and a self covered brass button (perfect size for the fussy cut fabric I used):
I popped out the little wire doodad, stretched the fabric over the front, pushing it into the grippers and smoothing the edges then pushed the back on.
I found the most perfect fabric, from Hello Petal by Aneela Hoey because hello?! that's my name printed right there!! :)
It was such a simple make and took about two minutes to do. Blob of super glue to stick one of the magnets on the back and done! I need to be getting back to some embroidery and cross stitching so I can use this baby.
I recently got a haul of zips, some felt and some cute twine from Rickety Rose Crafts - great selection and excellent prices - this should keep me going for a little while (though I might need more peach, pale green and gold zips because I love them so!)

rainbow log cabin quilt
I'm completely in love with this quilt.
From deciding to do something different (for me), to having fun piecing it and seeing the end result be so cool! I loved each block but even when I laid them out I didn't know if it worked. The grey eyelets from 'Flea Market Fancy' by Denyse Schmidt was the perfect choice for the rainbow blocks and, for me, the final touch that made me fall in love.
There's so many fun little fabric pieces in each colour block and my kids loved pointing them out!
The back is a Jay McCarroll print that I've used before, it's a nice vibrant blue with pink squares.
It is quilted in diagonal straight lines using Aurifil 50wt.
Gotta love the quilty goodness draped on the chair my Nan gave me (which I've re-cushioned and thought about recovering but I've grown to love the vintage shininess of it!).

Siblings Together Quilt, gifts and a little FQR
I had to answer Lynne's call for help. Siblings Together is an amazing cause and having kids it just pulled at my heart strings. I haven't actually blogged about making this quilt but it went together so fast there wasn't much to say! I started this before heading to the Fat Quarterly Retreat, intending to take it with me but I hadn't quite finished. The other day I managed to put the binding on and it's all ready to be sent off to 'Siblings Together'.
I got the idea for the quilt from Amy's off-set square block tutorial, I wanted to show off the large prints and this worked really well. The fabric is mostly Emily Herrick's Hall of Fame (and a couple of solids) - I won a fat quarter bundle from her blog. I think it'll be a great quilt for any sporting boy or girl!
There has been lots of involvement in this project, check out Lynne's post to see more great quilts!

I managed another finish because it was my amazing friend's birthday and I got to give her a pressie this weekend. I made her a weighted pincushion, using this great tutorial.
I used some of my precious Blend button box fabric, which just looks so cute! I love that this is adaptable and you can take off the little basket, so useful. Now I have to get on with making her a baby quilt :)
I was lucky enough to get an awesome gift in the post from the fabulously talented Rachael of Blue Mountain Daisy, after I left a rather rude comment on her SMS giveaway. Who knew being crude could get you prizes?!!
I was in love before I even opened her gift, the packaging was even gorgeous!
And inside was this brilliant double sided pincushion:
I love it!!! She is so kind and also included this gorgeous fabric:
Thank you so much Rachael! I assure you I'm usually much more ladylike (although those that met me recently will likely disagree!!).
Things have been a little overwhelming recently... lots going on. My brain is also still coming to grips with all the information, excitement and brilliantness of the Fat Quarterly Retreat.
I have written posts in my head about it but I just can't seem to cram it all in!! I think rather than do one post I'm just going to include things as and when.
What I will say is that it was SO well organised, I ADORED all my classes and I was so lucky to meet and spend time with the most amazing people. Thank you to the Fat Quarterly team and all the great sponsors.
Truly everyone was even nicer, funnier and kinder than I thought possible. I had so many great conversations and can't wait to do it again next year :)... also because I want to talk to Sarah and maybe sit at her end of the table if we go for dinner!
I even got invited to join some amazing ladies in their kitchen quilt guild and we're meeting tomorrow! I'm not sure who invited me exactly but I'm pretty sure they're going to regret it... with no mum on hand to babysit I will have my daughter in tow. Lynne may seriously never speak to me again!! I'm super excited to get to know them all better and I know it'll be great fun. I'm going to take lots of pictures just to prove I was there once!! ;)
I also met my soul mates, Nicky and Emily - who I just got on with like a house on fire. I actually suspect Emily and I would make some genius creations together if we lived nearer, that or just cause total chaos and havoc ;)
I haven't laughed so hard in such a long time!!
If I was a better blogger I'd list all the brilliant people I met but I haven't time and I have a memory like a sieve - just know that if I talked to you I am probably in love with you (especially you Moira, not least because you say amazeballs!!).
I'll show you one thing I got finished... a little stitching from my embroidery class with Aneela Hoey. She was a great teacher, I was happy to learn couching and hear her advice. She was truly lovely, so honest and very helpful. I'm hoping she doesn't think me and Emily are psycho for getting her autograph on some fabric (ok Emily might be a bit, she's already stitched hers!!) ;)
How cute is this little robin?!
Now I have to think what to make this into...
As well as working on getting Katy her own TV show, oh and trying to get my hands on the book so I can join in Allegory's awesome QAL!
