just popping in...
08 April 2014
because the nasty site Quilt Patterns Pro has been stealing my blog content!
Shameful.
Huge thanks to Molli Sparkles' post and The Bitchy Stitcher for bringing it to my attention.
I have complained and hope it gets shut down. I won't write more because it'll just be rude words.

I've added a footer to my RSS, like so...
Under 'Settings', 'Other' - you can add a little message that will show when you post. Not sure if it'll make a difference but I tried.
trying to comfort
06 April 2014
Both of my gorgeous girlies have chickenpox now :(
Fred is the only one with any energy and has been having fun creating stories and books. This one contains some of his favourite songs!
The smaller one has been enjoying a return to my real 'baby food' - mince, potatoes, carrot and pea mash up - a little comfort.
But probably not as tasty as eating her Great Nan's homemade jam!
By midday they were completely zonked and the majority of the day was spent on the sofa.
feeling bright
04 April 2014
I haven't been working on my own embroidery much recently so it's always nice to make a custom cushion to keep my needle warm.
I used a bright mix of fun fabrics for this one and backed it in a super soft brushed cotton print I got a while ago. Flannel or brushed cotton?? Pretty sure it's the same thing, what do you say?
That's not the only bright thing going on today because the delectable Molli Sparkles is over at le challenge with a bright tale to share! Head over for a good read.
And since there's about 10 days until the link opens I better get started on my BRIGHT project, so far I haven't a clue what to make - just goes to show, even the hosts do things last minute!

A toddler's mission
03 April 2014
'Hello?... I'm looking cute and creating a mess... can't talk now I've got more toys to play with for 30 seconds before discarding and moving on to the next thing'.
(surveys the room) My work here is done.
Huge congratulations to my dear friend Erin whose baby girl arrived yesterday! This is what your house will look like ;)
why not add more to my WIP list?!
02 April 2014
Just like the delightful Susan I took a break from the projects I was supposed to be doing to have a play with scraps for another basket.
I did manage to finish Sheila's tiny (less than 4") bee blocks for Bee a Brit Stingy this week and got them sent off today. Her Princess and the Pea project is going to be so cute!
I also got some work done on a playmat and should have this finished by the end of the week - just needs the binding bit done and some appliqué.
I have also decided to join in the English Country Garden block of the month over at PennyDog Patchwork.
Kerry has designed 12 beautiful appliqué flower blocks on pieced backgrounds and is offering free downloads of each pattern on Craftsy (for one month only and then they'll be $1.50 each). She's covering different machine appliqué methods and you can needle turn if you want, you can get all the info here! She's starting with that lovely daisy - my favourite flower and the others sound exciting too!
White Rabbit
01 April 2014
So that was March. Cushions, bags, a new mascot, costumes, a divided basket and progress on my rose stars (the last row is nearly sewn on now!).
I also managed to make a couple of clutch bags, which were on my FAL list. I had to check what was left on there since it's time to link up and realised I'd not shared them:
I'm pretty happy with how much I've done from my Q1 list but there are definitely roll overs and I'm starting to feel a need to really prioritise what I'm spending my time making. I will certainly be doing some selfish sewing in the coming months.
I also need to really look at my WIPs - partially to come up with my Q2 list but also to kind of refocus and enthuse myself.
It's a lovely sunny day so while the kiddo is napping I'm off to catch some rays (with a cardigan on!).

Apology Monday
31 March 2014
I have to start with an apology. One of my lovely readers emailed me to point out that a comment I made yesterday could be considered offensive. I would like to say sorry to any American readers who were annoyed or offended by my post.
**edited to add: I do understand, and there was further reasoning, why this caused offense. I am happy it was pointed out and would rather write this post to make my point clearer than to have confusion. If you weren't offended then I'm glad but this is for those who were or might have been. Everyone has an opinion and all are valid.
To clarify I have to state that neither me or my Nan are Anti-American. For me the complete opposite would be true; I've spent most of my life wishing I lived there, after living in CO when I was younger and family living in beautiful CA. I wasn't trying to debate the meaning / religious heritage / cultural meaning of Mother's Day or Mothering Sunday either, just reminding myself of the fact that my Nan prefers the later term. She dislikes the change in our style of speaking, in part influenced by the American language (which is what I meant by Americanism) but also no doubt many other factors of our globalised world, the internet and technology included. For a 96 year old she is incredibly open minded (and seriously smart, she did a politics degree in her 60s) but she can be very particular about linguistics. I am not making excuses, I hope that all makes sense and I'm very sorry if I unintentionally offended you.

Regardless of where we live, what language we speak, our religion or traditions I know we can all agree how special Mothers are and they deserve to be celebrated. Yesterday Joan gave me this lovely card:
I do carry my heart around and it hurts to think I've upset anyone. Love to you all.
(just in case you were wondering, that pink bit is my skirt!!)
