my face is frozen but my fingers work!

13 February 2013

Just back from the school run and sitting with a nice warm coffee trying to resume feeling in my face. It seems which ever way I was walking the snow and cold, cold wind were trying to attack my face. Can you get some sort of face snow guard??!!

Thankfully my gloves did the job of keeping my fingers warm and so I can work on some of these WIPS. I'm keeping the list short, trying to prioritise the things that need finishing, the ones that are fun and the ones I can easily pick up and put down!

in progress

- what I'm temporarily calling the May quilt, blocks are in progress:

- Bloggers BOM, binding sewn on - just needs hand sewing - nice project for today if I get a chance:

- Woodland Sampler, working on the frames before the real fun begins. I'm finding cross stitch very therapeutic:

- Rose Stars, still adding them on whenever I fancy a bit of EPP

no progress

- Braid quilt, still needs borders
- tooth fairy cushion, still all cut ready to go, sat in a nice pile just waiting
- HFWYG QAL, love this one but not rushing it as it will be for a dear friend.

So if my brain is still working that is seven projects on the go. I'm sure there are others but this will be my focus for the next few weeks at least. And that's fine by me :)

Off to read some blogs quickly while the baby sleeps and warm my face with more coffee!

McCall's Quilting free ebook

12 February 2013

McCall's Quilting and McCall's Quick Quilts magazine have published an ebook of modern quilt patterns.
There are three nice patterns in the short book and they would suit even a beginner quilter. There are lots of techniques covered in the patterns, including quilt-as-you-go. I can already think of friends that would like each of these designs!

Baubles and Beads by Susan Guzman

Rainbow Rhythm by Tricia Camp

Lemon Squeezey by Sherri Driver

Three fun patterns that really suit modern fabrics. Lemon Squeezey is a great pattern when you want a quick finish and I can see me doing this one easily with a Jelly Roll - although I think I would spray baste, not pin as the pattern suggests.

The instructions are really clear, as you would expect from McCall's, and who doesn't love adding patterns to their collection?!

You can get a copy of the ebook by clicking the link below (you will need to subscribe to newsletter emails from McCall's)

the universe

07 February 2013
**Make sure you've entered my giveaway HERE**

I managed to get my blocks done for my lovely bee mate Emily, using this tutorial. I think my 1/4" seam was a little off though because they are not perfect. I'm hoping it's not too obvious and Emily can live with them, if not I will make more!

I was getting a little annoyed trying to make them perfect and I'm trying not to get stressed out right now!

If you didn't know I'm a little bit hippy...

I get daily messages from 'The Universe' and on Monday I got this one:

Did you know, Lucy, that when you were born, so wee and little, we thought we might never, ever get over all the crying?!

Ours, not yours.

So in love,
    The Universe

It just seemed so appropriate!!

and then yesterday...

No matter how great the desire is to please another, Lucy, let it be no greater than the desire to be yourself.

Otherwise ain't no one happy.

So pleased with you,
    The Universe

They come from www.tut.com - the motto is 'thoughts become things... choose the good ones' - I couldn't agree more! You can sign up to receive positive daily messages for free and you customise them too - it really is a fun way to remind you of all the greatness, inspiration and wonder all around us. I love them (especially when I'm in a bad mood!!). I have received them for many years and still read them all.

The universe has been sending me huge blessings recently and I can't go into it here because there's not enough time and I'll get too emotional but my fabulous cousin in California just sent me a beautiful and thoughtful package to welcome baby Lois.

She sent two fabulous Berenstain books, which me and the kids adore! Some gorgeous baby fabrics... I'm thinking a little quilt and a dress? And for the two bigger ones, these gloves - they love them so much I had to wrestle with them not to wear them to bed!! Fred wore his into the classroom this morning so he could show them off to his friends and teachers :)

Yesterday I also got a lovely package from my friend Nicky. She had already tackled the feathers because we are in two bees together and here are the latest four!!! I love them!

Nicky's photo - shamelessly nicked from Flickr!

She also sent a cute card, lovely scraps and some MUCH needed sugar (the kids are not having them when mummy really needs that boost!!). Thank you Nicky :)

a bunch of stuff

06 February 2013

**Be sure to enter the fabulous giveaway from ChristaQuilts**

I was doing so well yesterday - got lots of housework done and even basted my Blogger's BOM quilt in the afternoon... by 5pm I was losing my mind and the sleep deprivation totally caught up to me. I went a bit mental and then I was asleep by 8pm. God only knows what I'd do without my husband - he's pure angel!

So I might find some time at some point to get this baby quilted. It isn't basted too well but that's what happens when you're rushing to do it with a baby asleep and 'help' from a cute 3 yr old girl!

I know some of you will tell me I'm crazy for even thinking about sewing but honestly it felt SO good to make some progress and sewing is my 'me' thing. Being a mum always comes first but being 'Lucy' is important too!

I made these Japanese x + o blocks for Sue,  our first queen in the Simply Solids Bee, before Lois was born... now just need to get to the post office!

Over the past couple of weeks more feather blocks have been floating in from my lovely bee mates...

 top row: Janet and Di
bottom row: Collette and... I don't know!!! I've totally lost track!! Shout out if this is yours!! May (so sorry!! - thanks Helen!!)

They are all gorgeous, thank you ladies and forgive me for not keeping up!

I also received this AWESOME bundle of vintage sheet FQs - huge thanks to Mary for organising it all and doing the hard work! Check out her blog and I'd highly recommend joining in if she ever runs another one ;)

Lastly check out my girl with her totally natural (and I can't stop it!!) amazing mohican hair do. I'd literally have to put gel on it to stop it from sticking up!! It has a mind of it's own ;) Super cute though!

love a GIVEAWAY!

04 February 2013

***GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED***

February is the month of love - you know I'm about love all year round - but here's an early Valentine's treat!

It's time for another fabric giveaway from ChristaQuilts! Christa is offering a $20 gift certificate to her store to spend on anything you want! Perhaps you want to put it towards one of her lovely kits that she offers:

Here is a link to all of Christa's Quilt Kits for sale:
http://www.christaquilts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3

In fact, Christa loves quilt kits and wants to make more of them but she needs your help! Let her know what size quilt kit is your favorite to buy and make...

Do you like baby size kits - because they are less expensive, small and fast to make,
throw sized kits - because they are larger and make a great gift, or
large bed sized quilts - because you want someone else to make sure it all goes together?

Leave your comment below and you will be entered into the random drawing.

**GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED**

The winner will be announced on Monday 11th February. Everyone is welcome to enter but please make sure I have a way of contacting you, if in doubt leave your email address in the comment.

Be sure to visit Christa's store at www.ChristaQuilts.com and her blog at www.ChristaQuilts.wordpress.com.

And don't forget to use the coupon code B12CHARM for an extra 5% off your first order with Christa. Those of you that have already ordered from her and used the code don't need to worry, you automatically get the discount already!

Good luck!

think of a good title

01 February 2013

...because I can't.

I can show you what I got made in January though:

Car seat quilt, robot cushion, reindeer cross stitch, Abel the explorer embroidery sampler, sewing case, flower cushion (not blogged apparently but I made it as a gift for a friend's daughter), 2CV zip bag.

In case you missed it, most importantly I went from this:

To having this gorgeous girl:

This afternoon I finished embellishing her brother's old outfit to make it a tiny bit more girly:

The roses pattern is from the Sublime Stitching book
