applique and an owl
I'm just brilliant at post titles but at least it describes my finishes this week!
First I finished up this little zip bag for a gift, I actually did two (the other one has a 'D' on it) but failed to take a picture before the party.
I used some scraps and followed the open wide zippered pouch tutorial by Noodlehead, so much easier for little hands to open and close I think.
That's a check off my FAL list!
I also got the little October owl finished for my Woodland Sampler. I adore those oak leaves.
I'm really hoping to make some quilting progress this weekend. I'm overwhelmed by projects so I'm going to really try and focus and do one at a time (HA!).

I'm linking up to Craft Buds for the Craft Book Month 2013.
When I saw this link party I immediately knew which project to enter, this is the Hootenanny pattern from the brilliant book 'Dare To Be Square' by Boo Davis.
This is one of my very favourite quilts I've worked on, it was also a great collaboration. The top was pieced by me, sent to my amazing cousin Jackie in California, who made the back and long arm quilted it. She sent it back to me and I bound it.
This is the 'Owl Love You' quilt we made for my sister and her husband as a wedding present:
I made the owl and Jackie made these beautiful wedding rings. I love the mix of the modern and the traditional.
Jackie did such a beautiful job of quilting, picking out all the features of the owl and using it as her theme for various patterns.
The icing on the quilt, the newly weds names and date of their wedding:

The PTA fair went pretty well yesterday. We had fun and I sold a lot of my smaller items and two tooth cushions, including the one on the left below!
I finished these this week and I've listed the yellow owl on my Etsy shop.
These make great gifts for kids and who doesn't love a cute owl?! This is another finish off my FAL list.
Perhaps the best thing was the lovely compliments I got on my makes and it gave me the confidence to open an Etsy shop, something I've wanted to do for a while. I ran with it and opened it last night - huge thanks to my blogging friends that have already shown their support :)

Following my recent quilt disaster I returned to sewing only things I love.
Last night I finished off these owl tooth cushions for the PTA sale. I'm pleased with how they turned out. I did applique, fmq and a little hand stitching outlining the owls.
I based the design of the owls on the backing fabric below left.
I'm going to do a couple more I think because they are so cute and fun to make!
I finished June from my woodland sampler.
Yesterday afternoon Fred and I decided to work together to fix a rip in his jeans. After seeing this post by Toni - that I bookmarked forever ago - I knew that was the most fun fix! He cut the felt and I did the stitching (it was a little awkward because they are skinny jeans!)
Finally I managed (just in time) to do my last bee block this month. It's for Diane in the Simply Solids bee. She asked for any star in a star block so I made the 'star within a star' block by Brioni Greenberg from the Fat Quarterly Shape Workshop for Quilters book. It worked out so well although because of the grey days what looks like blue here is actually more of a purple but you get the idea:

Primarily because this quilt is for my sister and her husband - they are getting married today!!
It is also my first collaboration. The top was pieced by me, sent to my amazing cousin Jackie in California, who made the back and long arm quilted it. She sent it back to me and I bound it.
I was so pleased when I finished the owl, it is the Hootenanny pattern from the book 'Dare To Be Square' by Boo Davis. The fabrics in the owl are all from My Fabric House - they do seriously cute bundles!
The eagle eyed amongst you might have spotted an error though...
OH NO!! The owl is missing part of it's claw! I pieced a section of the blocks upside down and only realised when I had already put the quilt top in the post to Jackie. DUH!
Thankfully she is that awesome that she fixed it. phew.

Here it is draped over our double bed so you get an idea of the size and scale of it, sorry the room isn't even big enough for me to get proper shots:
I adore every part of this quilt and know that Jackie and I have poured love into it.
I am so proud to have Chris be my brother-in-law and (official) Uncle to my children.
I hope the quilt will be a wonderful reminder of their special day, how much their family love them, and help keep them warm throughout their happy marriage.

Thank you so much if you have already, I can't even tell you how many flashbacks I've been having to my school days and fashion disasters. All the comments have made me laugh out loud - culottes, perms and other delights of hairstyling, neon, bell bottoms, lycra, all types of terrible denim - you can't help but cringe! You have all been thoroughly entertaining and kept my spirits up, thank you.

I am loving the date today 12/12/12, so satisfying! If it wasn't a month too soon I'd be willing the baby to be born today - at least it'd be easy to remember it's birthday!
I am 36 weeks pregnant today and expecting the midwife to come round for my check up, fingers crossed all is fine. I put some Fratellis on this morning and had a little dance with my daughter just to wake it up a bit!
I haven't been doing a lot of sewing, I'm just too tired in the evenings but I have finished some small projects...

My daughter and I made this cute owl one together using this tutorial.
I made these simple gingerbread men using this template. Both decorations were created after seeing them on feeling stitchy - a great source of inspiration!
- Secret Swap for Bee a Brit Stingy. I hope my partner will like it! We are swapping fabric baskets made using Ayumi's great tutorial.
- Scrappy? Sew Bee It! Bee block for Deborah. I had fun making this one, simple but so effective! She asked us to use whatever fabrics we would chose ourselves, which is a cool concept. She picked Amanda's 36 patch block:

- I am hand quilting my hexie cushion. I decided just to stitch in the ditch around some of the hexagons. It gives a nice texture and I didn't want the stitching to take away from those gorgeous prints.
