neutrals and celebrations
One very beautiful addition to my stash this week, a gorgeous neutral charm pack from Karen Lewis Textiles. I love her new prints and I will be adding these to my collection of Karen's fabrics!
We have had a really busy weekend with lots of family fun as it was Lois' 4th birthday! I can't believe how quickly they grow. I loved seeing her joy in small things like cake and banners but her favourite thing had to be the humongous unicorn my sister got her!! My Dad and Nan came over to take us for a pub lunch, then we went to my mums for some games and cake. We also went to see Moana, which was really good and I might need to get the soundtrack.
On Saturday night my husband and were treated to a meal to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had an incredible 14 course meal at Manchester House. I had the vegetarian menu and it was utterly delicious! I've never eaten food like it. I was so full that we had to have the 14th course (a dessert) to take home. An amazing experience!
I am working on lots of secret sewing at the moment, some of which will be revealed later this week!

laughter and a winner
I just got off the phone to my husband. We had a really funny chat, it's one of those stories that if I tell you about it you won't find it funny at all - so I won't bother. What I will tell you is I couldn't stop laughing. A proper laughing fit. It felt so so good! I encourage you all to laugh today. Talk to your partner, a friend or watch something funny and have a really good laugh. Master of None on Netflix is hilarious, I'm currently watching it and would recommend it.
This little parcel is a full of secret sewing and is on it's way today, but sorry I can't share until next year! Admire the pretty washi tape though :)
In other cuteness, this little ball of joy is constantly cracking me up! She is so theatrical and loves singing all the songs she's learning at nursery. Adorable!

a little catch up...
I'm busy working on a million things as per usual and the little one is home poorly today. I haven't had much sleep but I am hoping to do a little stitching today while we both take it easy.
There is some secret sewing going on but until I can do a reveal here is what I'm currently working on. Another Stitchy Pie needle case, it's fun to do some embroidery again!
I am also getting section 4 of my green tea and sweet beans pieced together, I am machining the filler blocks and hand piecing the blocks together so it's slow sewing!
My rose star quilt is nearly finished, just a bit more hand quilting. I really would like to get it finished before Christmas.
My list of WIPs is really crazy so I need to crack on and sew.
This past weekend we had an early birthday party for my eldest daughter, my sister came up for a visit and it was lovely to see her growing bump! I even got to feel my niece kicking!
For now it's sofa time, snuggles and hot water with lemon and honey.

non stop
Is it just me? It seems like time is speeding up and the days are flying by. I have a to do list that goes on forever but struggle to even check off one thing a day. The fact that this week is half term isn't helping! There's little chance of getting much proper work done but I am really enjoying having the kids around (mostly, sometimes I am pulling my hair out!).
I had fun making this time lapse video of my hand quilting, it's weirdly apt considering how fast my days are going!
Today was good. We decorated the house for Halloween, after carving pumpkins with our friends yesterday, and now it looks nicely seasonal. The afternoon was spent crafting, with each of us working on different projects.
I was prepping for the machine quilting class I am teaching with Alison at Patchfinders next week. One of the things I did was this thread / stitch length sampler:
Fred worked on his hand pieced patchwork, he's doing really well and his stitches are getting straighter. Joan decided she wanted to sew scraps of wadding together, she likes the cosiness!
Lois was colouring but then thought playing with spiders was more entertaining!
I had a big shock this morning when I found myself on the nominees list for Quilting Designer of the Year category in the British Craft Awards! I went to vote for Simply Solids as Quilting Retailer of the Year, after seeing them post about their nomination. It was a bit of a shock to see my name amongst really talented designers and I am honoured to have been included. You can go and vote for all your favourites now, click here!
London + Liberty
Prepare yourself! I have a lot to show you so this will be a long post. I will start with goodies I got at the Festival of Quilts 2016 and then share some London holiday fun for those of you that are interested in my general life stuff!
First up were these incredible metallic zips from The Eternal Maker, honestly a photo can't capture how pretty these are. The zip tape is a beautiful sparkly black, they also have gold and silver.
I have been wanting an octagon acrylic template, so I snagged one along with some papers at Sew & Quilt. I'm looking forward to using these.
Both of these shops had gorgeous fabric ranges, I wasn't looking for fabric but it was really tempting! If you haven't already I recommend checking them out.
My wonderfully talented friend Nicky surprised me with an incredible gift. She knows I love Superman, she recently made her daughter an amazing bag and I proclaimed my love. This is literally one of the best gifts I have ever been given - handmade, by my friend, beautiful notebook cover with Superman fabric and a notebook!! She even gave me Superman scraps too. Thank you so so much Nicky ❤
Look at those clever fussy cut cover flaps and a pocket too. I will treasure it but also use it!
This past week I have been in London and part of the reason I didn't buy fabric at the festival was because I was saving myself for Liberty. It is the most incredible shop and even if the fabric isn't to your taste, if you are ever in London you must pay a visit!
That floor and all the displays could become fabulous quilt patterns!
I hotfooted it to the Haberdashery section...
If I could I would have bought everything and while I was tempted to go for some of the more recognisable classic prints I was really drawn to the new season fabrics and something more unusual.

We had a lovely few days in London on our holidays. It was beautiful weather and we spent nearly all the time outdoors. We stayed right near Tower Bridge:

We walked through Potter's Fields every day and the kids loved these paint tube flower displays!
They thoroughly enjoyed our theatre trip to see The Scarecrow's Wedding at Leicester Square Theatre. It really was a great performance with brilliant songs!

Exploring and picnicking. Quite by chance we came across a wonderful performance by Zadie Xa - Linguistic Legacies and Lunar Exploration at the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park.
They had the most fabulous costumes, bleached and appliqued!

And then just afterwards we randomly encountered a helicopter right before it took off. The helicopter crew and Police officers that were there were so nice and the pilot shook hands with our kids. Very cool!

After all that excitement we are home, I've nearly done all the laundry and am looking forward to a bit of machine sewing.
