The votes are in, now wanna make me a banner?!
I know you were all waiting with baited breath to find out the results of my poll... what, you mean you could see?? It's not a surprise??
Oh well! Thanks for all the comments, it was interesting to see what you all thought. The winner appears to be half quilt two! I had decided this would be the one I would keep when I tried something other than straight line quilting. Also the backing seems to fit my daughter's personality somehow! She turns two in November so I'll be giving it to her on her birthday if I can wait that long, although I can't give her one without making the boy one too... I MUST get the 'does not compute' quilt finished! Damn all the QAL distractions!
Also desperately wanted to create a pretty header for this here blog but don't know where to start, can't be bothered just now (way too tired tonight for computery fiddling) and I'm not even artistic!! I am really inspired by Heather over at Crafting... who has made hers so pretty. Maybe I'll get to it soon but for now bare with this whiteness ok?! I have shifted things so all the buttons etc. are on the right, I just think it was getting a bit heavy. Sometimes I try to make my blog look better and think I make it worse. If anyone has opinions or advice on blog stuff, let me know, I can take it!! I'm going to try and be as simple as possible while still joining in linky and buttony fun though :)
On to smaller and better things...
My incredible cousin in America, my inspiration, wonderful friend and greatest encourager (is that a word?!) Jackie has just started her own blog! I would love you to pay her a visit, she has amazing tales and has been quilting WAY longer (and better) than me. She's very talented, funny and I'm sure you'd appreciate her creations. Check it all out at What Sew Ever and say hi from me!!

Which half gets your vote?
Whoop whoop!! I've finished the other half of my Easy Bricks quilt :)

Let me backtrack for new readers (or those that have forgotten!)... I made the lovely Easy Bricks quilt by Amy Smart at Diary of a Quilter, you can see the finished quilt top here. Despite loving it I realised it was just too big and one became two when I chopped it in half!
I finished the first 'half quilt' last week and now I've finished the second:
On the left, 'half quilt ONE': straight line quilting, pieced backing, cute flowery binding.
On the right, 'half quilt TWO': traced quilting, bright backing, dotty binding.
So, what do you think?? Which one shall I keep to give my daughter and which one shall I donate? Wanna vote? Oh go on! There's a little poll on the bottom of the right column... vote for the keeper :)

If you look really closely you can see the quilting on the back (it isn't really this dark, the picture is terrible)! I quilted it from the wrong side, tracing round some of the shapes in the fabric so the front looks like stars/squiggles/nice patterns. It's slightly odd looking but I like it and the quilt feels SO nice. The stitch length is by no means perfect (ha! not even close) but I enjoyed my first attempt at something other than straight lines:

Sunday Sewing
I haven't done quite as much as I would have liked this weekend but here's where I'm up to. After the fmq practice I realised it may take some time for me to get good!! So, rather than wait, I decided just to go for it on the other half quilt. I'm cheating slightly because I'm outlining some of the design on the backing fabric - literally quilting back to front. It looks weird but once it's all done I think it'll just look like wiggly lines. When I look at it I'm switching between seeing odd bear shapes, snowflakes, stars and squiggles! I kind of like the oddness! When it's done I'll show you more and see what you think:
I'm realising how crucial speed is and finding it really hard to stay at a decent speed without going super fast! It is fun but boy my arms are getting a work out!! I'm also using LOTS of thread.
My gold watch project went from this,

Some slightly shabby looking hand embroidery (which doesn't look SO bad in real life!!). Need to do some machine sewing, make a label and then I'm planning on hand quilting it. My step-dad retires October 2011 - see the time?!
