Superman GLITTA zip pouch
25 September 2017
Give me a fabulous pattern, fabric I love and an hour and I'm in my happy place. This new pattern by Laura Cunningham is the most fun. She expertly shows you how to sew with vinyl, with loads of useful tips along the way that make it so easy. GLITTA is such a well written pattern and pattern testers have been all been busy making amazingly varied and awesome versions, click #GLITTApouch to see all the sparkles!
I have been waiting to make this project. I have had the fabric and confetti for a while, I was going to make Laura's original See It All Pouch pattern but that would have meant less Superman and I couldn't cut him up. GLITTA is perfect because it lets the fabric be the star and you just throw a little (or a lot) of glitter or confetti on top. This confetti by Ginger Ray was destined to go with the fabric that my amazing friend Nicky gave me (along with the beautifully made notebook cover below!). I would recommend using good quality confetti like this if you are going for paper cut outs because otherwise they bend when you are turning the pouch through.
It's hard to show in photos but it's like a snow globe effect and the glitter/confetti can be shaken to move around. It is very cool. I have so many ideas for personalising this in different ways and it makes a fab gift! Christmas or birthday versions would be perfect for that.
If you haven't guessed my favourite superhero is Superman, an icon of good, strength and truth. He has a energetic charm and, while this might sound weird, there are times when I think about Superman and it gives me the power to keep going. On days when I have a lot to accomplish or I'm feeling like I can't be bothered, it really helps motivate me. See I told you it was weird. Whatever works though, right?! There's also that whole dual identity thing which, since I've been struggling with anxiety, can also be empowering. I came across this brilliant article Superman Character Analysis: More than just a guy who punches things that is a neat commentary of all the ways I love him and why.
My Superman collection is growing. The notebook and lego figure were both thoughtful gifts so this is my first Superman make and I like the coordination that's going on here!
I did add some little bits of sequin style confetti to the pouch, that I found in the bottom of my kids craft box. It had to have a bit of shine too ✨
Support small business and check out Laura's shop, she has free patterns downloads along with the fantastic new GLITTA pattern and more!
Thank you for letting me test Laura! If you aren't already make sure you follow her on instagram, she's an inspiring and wonderful designer.
Now I'm interested if anyone else has a fictional character they turn to for inner strength? Is it just me?!
Shake it! ~ Glitter It All Pouch
30 August 2016
Glitter and shine and confetti! Fabric and vinyl and zip! That's what Laura's new pattern is made of. The Glitter It All Pouch is so good. One of those makes where you smile through the whole process. It is so fun and the clear instructions make it simple and quick to put together.
It just so happened that my friend Jayne had kindly given a LOAD of craft supplies to me for the kids (and totally helped my sanity over the summer!). Amongst the goodies was this cool letter confetti:
I mixed in some fine holographic glitter for extra sparkle and I had the perfect print to go with it, probably now unavailable as it is a couple of years old, Practice your Handwriting in Manilla Apple, School Days by American Jane.
I probably went a little overboard with the glitter, it would be more transparent has I used less but then I did shake it up to take these photos, the glitter freely moves around. I can't stop shaking it!
These would be such great gifts for kids, teens or any one that likes sparkle! You can get so many different types of glitter and confetti - you can find stars, hearts, flowers, smiley faces, Christmas, Easter, numbers, unicorns... the list goes on (and that was just a quick Google for metallic confetti!).
You don't even to have to buy confetti or glitter, remember the joy of emptying a hole punch? If you have any shiny card or even just different colours (it doesn't have to sparkle!), you could hole punch to your hearts content and use those shapes. Get creative and play!
You can download Laura's free Glitter It All Pouch pattern from Craftsy now!
bling and an organised iphone
13 January 2016
I am probably about 10 years too late but have decided to inject a little bling into our lives. Pink, girly things bring me joy and I bought a very cheap iphone cover (I like the flip cases that actually stop my screen getting scratched when I chuck it in my bag). It had a random logo on it I didn't like so I picked it off and then needed something to cover the damage. I found Candy Crystal and ordered glittery bows!
Problem solved! I also ordered my girls some hair clips that I glued cute little lollies and bows to, it was a fun quick project and a nice way to make something unique!
I came across a useful blog post by Jones Design Company for organising your iphone. I was often overwhelmed seeing all those icons on my screen and scrolling through to find the one I needed - this makes everything more streamlined and my phone is less stressful to look at!
I have been using it this way for a few days and I love it, I know where everything is, the files I rarely use are on the next screen rather than my home screen so it's even less cluttered. Love it!
Yesterday was my birthday, I had a lovely time with family and a nice chilled out day. I even managed to finish this block I was working on for my 1930's Farmer's Wife quilt. I will do a catch up post on my blocks soon!

ink - le challenge - a vintage elf and flowery goodness!
14 December 2014
It's been a crazy busy month and despite lots of ideas for the ink theme I left it until the last minute again!! I came across a cute vintage elf embroidery pattern on pinterest, it was credited to Crafty Modern but despite lots of googling I can't find the original pattern so that's as much info as I can give.
My daughter was recently given some brilliant pens for her birthday, some of which are glittery! I asked her if I could borrow them and got to work. I traced the image using my lightbox and had lots of fun picking the colours:
Here's a weird lighting shot so you can better see the glitteryness!
I think it makes a cute festive card!
If you've made anything using ink, with the colour ink or that relates to the theme 'ink' in any way you can link up your finished project now at le challenge for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!
I received more fabric goodness and some yummy Aurifil this week from Pink Castle Fabrics:
from left to right: Floral Bouquet in Blue, Old New 30s by Atsuko Matsuyama; Cherries in White and Red, Old New 30s by Atsuko Matsuyama; Daisy Grid in Gray, Suzuko Koseki for Yuwa; Cottagely Posy in Teal, Priory Square by Katy Jones and Aurifil 50wt #2600 - my favourite colour for hand piecing.
I seem to have developed a thing for florals!! I love the vintage vibes of those Japanese prints and the bright colours of the beautiful Priory Square. I guess these will be finding their way into my green tea and sweet beans quilt too ;)
stash and glitter
08 December 2013
Oh I love fabric parcels of yummy happy fabric!
These gorgeous fat quarter bundles arrived from Fluffy Sheep Quilting, Happy Go Lucky and 2wenty Thr3e with coordinated solids:
A beautiful Summer Kona jelly roll, some yardage (Children At Play - Hopscotch Soft Pink, Pam Kitty Love - Grey Dots on Check, Lakehouse - White on White Dots) and a Baby Jane charm pack from the Fat Quarter Shop:
Today there's been no playing with fabric but I've enjoyed crafting with the kids. After seeing Rebecca's sweet tutorial we picked up some pine cones on a walk through the park and after unsuccessfully trying to wrestle the lid off the PVA glue I remembered we had glitter paint so we went with that instead (also saved cleaning up the glitter!).
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to find a suitable vessel to display their glittery handiwork!
Linking up to Sunday Stash at Finding Fifth (for some reason the button isn't working for me?!)
