new 💌 pink bambi!
23 November 2018
I'm posting this on a day when everyone goes % sales and shopping mad. I've actually not bought anything today (except ice cream!) because I'm pretty sure this lovely lot will keep me busy, along with the rest of my fabric stash.
First are these pretty prints from Rose Garden Patchwork, a brilliant UK site to shop for Japanese prints and notions.
clockwise from top left: Pretty Cards in Lilac by Yuwa; Paper and Marguerite by Suzuko Koseki and Fashionable Cat - Sobakasu Kids, I was also kindly sent a bit of Fruit Love by Atsuko Matsuyoma with my order.
Next up is one metre of Essex Yarn Dyed Metallic in Sorbet from Sew Hot, which I ordered for a specific project... and now I don't remember what!! It is super pretty through, shot through with blue, pink and yellow metallic strands.
The new and upcoming collections from Tilda really are beautiful, I always like the colours they use and when I saw they had some basics I couldn't resist ordering from Sew and So. I bought the medium dots, which I think will be a great blender and would also make a lovely binding fabric.
This isn't at all sewing related but as I occasionally document my life here too I wanted to share the new tattoo I got last week. It's been one I planned for some time and I finally found an artist I wanted to do it. I contacted Alex Fraser and he custom designed my tattoo with everything I wanted in it! The flowers all have personal meaning for me, the anchor is for my faith and 'mutiny' is a reminder of the brilliant manifesto in the book Be More Pirate - which I highly recommend reading, very thought provoking! He works at Tooth and Talon Tattoo in Manchester, it was such a good atmosphere in there and a completely enjoyable experience.
Back to more sewing stuff, today was a good post day! The latest Signs of the Sewdiac subscription box arrived, probably my favourite design so far - so pretty and hand sewing is my favourite thing! The notebook is gorgeous, with dot grid paper, another beautiful pin, sticker, card and a pen. Some starry bias binding too, which I know will be useful!
And this little cutie arrived! I ordered it from Etsy, sold as a vintage planter - obviously now destined to become a pin cushion. I just have to find the perfect fabric...
I love it's face. The nice shade of pink and the gold accents. Also the sweet birds on the pot, totally reminds me of Bambi. Which is what I was calling it but then is it more Faline (the doe in Bambi)? It doesn't have to be a girl because it's pink does it. I like both names, I'm still undecided!!
It's all go preparing for a busy weekend. We've got the middles birthday, a print fair and a family get together. If you happen to be in Manchester this weekend, come and say hello - look for Prints of Cats.
I hope you have a great weekend what ever you are up to!

sweet sweet Sunday
10 April 2016
Some lovely fabric packages arrived this past week!
Miss Matatabi on Etsy has the most gorgeous selection of Japanese fabrics. I was definitely in a cute vintage mood when I bought these:
Fancy Circle in Grey by Yuwa; basic repro patch and sewing notions
Red cheater print by Suzuko Koseki; Blue tape measures by Suzuko Koseki; Vintage Daisies by Kei and Vintage Sewing Fashion by Suzuko Koseki.
More sweetness - especially these adorable ladies! - from Fat Quarter Shop:
Cocoa Buttercup, 30's Playtime by Chloe's Closet; Pink Native, Wander by Joel Dewberry; Ladies Night, Black and White by Cotton & Steel; Bowties, Black and White by Cotton & Steel and Disco Fruit, Black and White by Cotton & Steel
Wild Goose with black spots, Just A Speck by Jen Kingwell; Rock Salt with black spots, Just A Speck by Jen Kingwell; Cassette Tapes by Timeless Treasures; Taupe Ombre, Ombre by V and Co. and White on Red, Cross Weave by Moda
I literally only needed the ombre!! Oh well :)
This sweet little cross is from Ransom Jewelry, it's so dainty! I really like the black cross with the gold chain and it will be an everyday necklace for me. The shop has great customer service, Erica was really helpful when I had a question, and her shop is filled with striking and simple jewellery.
In life news, my cousin has had a baby girl! I embroidered a quilt label with her name and date of birth using perle thread and sent the quilt off today. I also made them a card by printing these free gift tag printables on card, cutting one out and stitching it to the front of a blank card. I think it turned out pretty cute!

08 February 2016
I have been meaning to blog all week but somehow haven't quite managed it. I have some personal stuff going on in my head and want to share but need to find the words... don't worry it's nothing terrible and hopefully I can express it properly soon. Anxiety is running rife so I will be leaning on all of you if you'll let me.
For now I'm just going to show you the goodies that have joined my stash recently.
I picked some pretty fabrics from Sunny Day Supply - I really couldn't resist these cats and matches, which are so fabulous! The daisy print feels beautifully soft and the middle print is going to prove so useful, sort of retro but also modern.
left to right: Dear Marguerite in Brown by Suzuko Koseki; Netherlands Ditsy Cream, Small Wonders by Mary Fons and Cats and Matches by Cosmo
I love the extras I got with my order, along with a sweet hand written note. Such great customer service and just so thoughtful!
I needed to stock up on zips again and my favourite place to buy them is Rickety Rose Crafts. Rose has a fabulous range of zips and crafting supplies to make your projects pretty! Look at these great colours:
I needed some cotton webbing and this Illuminated Graph in Metallic Fog, Loominous by Anna Maria Horner fabric (which is impossible to get a good picture of but is so pretty in real life) just jumped into my basket at The Village Haberdashery:
I got my first box of the BOM from Sew & Quilt. I haven't ever subscribed to a block of the month that included fabric but Jessie has such great taste, I love the fabrics in her shop! I have seen other people making the Lucy Boston 'Patchwork of the Crosses' quilts and I am so drawn to this pattern. Also Lucy, so I had to ;)
It is taking all my willpower not to start this straight away but my pile of WIPs is crazy and this will be my reward for getting some of them finished!

More fabric too pretty to pass up from Fabricworm, unfortunately I got stung with a customs charge for these.
top row, left to right: Pepper Dots in Sorbet, Light and Shade by Lisa Tilse; Confetti in Earth, Light and Shade by Lisa Tilse and Little Honey in Gold, Folk Song by Anna Maria Horner.
middle: Stitchy Dots in Coral, Bright Heart by Amy Butler
bottom: Arrowheads in Dusk, Wildland by Miriam Bos
And because I have no willpower when it comes to fabric I got these from Patchfinders. It's hard to leave empty handed when you work in a quilt shop! The two on the left were bought by customers and I just love them (and the middle one is only £6 a metre!), the sewing themed one arrived while I was at work and called out to be fussy cut!
left to right: Kasuri by Hoffman; Innocent Charm in White, Coquette by AGF Studio and Sewing Studio 2 by Cynthia Frenette.
Lovely Lisa offered to send me some Thimble Pads because I had never tried them. I didn't actually realise they were leather and somehow thought they were rubber or plastic and would feel horrible, like wearing a plaster. How wrong I was! I've always struggled with thimbles, the last one I bought was leather and I do prefer that to others I've tried but after having it for a while it's started to stretch a bit and since I only really use one spot it has begun to wear away. I don't even always wear it so I also have a nice dent at the top of my middle finger! ouch!
I've been trying a Thimble Pad for the past couple of days and I'm totally hooked. It's saving my finger! They are so easy to use and totally reusable. I was put off by how many you get in a pack, thinking they would only last a little while but Lisa assures me they last a really long time and I can believe her. I can't recommend these enough, whether you like thimbles or not they are worth a go! People have been telling me how much they love them on instagram and I wish I had tried them sooner.
If you want to try them Thimble Pads are currently on sale at Green Fairy Quilts :)
Finally one of my dearest friends (of nearly 20 years) knitted me this gorgeous hat. I'm completely smitten. The colours, the style, it's so perfectly me and it's keeping me nice and cosy on these blustery days!
Wishing you all a wonderful week! And well done for making it through all that ;)
just because and plans for selfish sewing
17 May 2015
Sometimes I buy fabric 'just because'. When Pink Castle Fabrics had a sale on their Japanese fabrics I scooped this up mostly because they are pretty (I had my eye on the Hiding Cats one for a while!):
Top to bottom: Mini French Cheater Print by Suzuko Koseki; Daisies in Grey, Live Life by Yuwa; Deer and Cherries, 30's by Atsuko Matsuyama; Hiding Cats, Cocoland by Kokka and Language of Flowers, 30's Collection by Atsuko Matsuyama.
I adore the Language of Flowers print, I love retro text prints and how cute is the Hiding Cats selvedge?!
After making this drawstring tote the other day I knew I wanted one for myself so I got some canvas and twill ribbon from The Village Haberdashery:
Neon Clouds in orange and navy by Hokkoh; Scattered in neutral, Mochi Canvas by Rashida Coleman-Hale and some twill ribbon.
Selfish sewing ahead :)
messy space, new stash
08 February 2015
Well this is the mess that it my sewing space (it's just a desk shoved in the corner of our dining room). It's no surprise really since I've been doing so much hand sewing, things just get dumped here. I need to get back to some machine sewing though so this will have to get sorted out sharpish!
Over the past couple of weeks I've added some lovely additions to my stash and I have plans for them all so you'll see them popping up here and there!
First this divine bundle from Miss Matatabi:
Swedish Kitchen in teal, Lighthearted by Ayumi Takahashi; Swedish Text in mint, Lighthearted by Ayumi Takahashi (available here); Floral in cream and mint, Lighthearted by Ayumi Takahashi; Shibuya in Linen, Tokyo Train Ride by Sarah Watts and Irome in Winter, Color of the Seasons by Kokka (currently sold out but Spring is available here).
And then no prizes for guessing why I had to get this adorable Tickle Pink Cats, Hello Petal by Aneela Hoey print! Fussy cutting ahead!
More gorgeousness arrived from Pink Castle Fabrics, I had a hard time choosing which First of Infinity panel to get but chose the pastel because I love the soft colours - this print is so gorgeous I would happily have them all!
Top row: First of Infinity Book Panel
Bottom row: Feed Sacks in Peach by Suzuko Koseki; Kona in white (always useful!); Ghost Saltines in Evergreen, Cookie Book by Kimberly Kight; Cottage Path in Grass, Daydream by Swirly Girls Design and Roots Dot in Green, Roots and Wings by Deena Rutter
At Patchfinders we have a great selection of fabrics that are only £6 per metre so I snagged some of this pretty Stof print:
I've had that horrible stomach illness that all three of my kids had last week so this weekend so far as been exhausting but today I feel better and am ready for some serious sewing (and maybe some tidying up of that mess if I can be bothered... probably not!!).
I will be back to show you more progress on my green tea and sweet beans blocks, I finally have another quilt finish to show off and next weekend it's time for the DOTS le challenge finish, so a busy week ahead!
If you have been working with dots and have a finish that has a 'dots' theme, join us next weekend and link up for a random chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!
Happy Sunday all!
