wee boxy basket
12 August 2020
There are quite a few things I have made recently that haven't yet been documented here. As a note to myself and to share what I've made I do like to write about the process and will be trying to catch up with blog posts over the next few days. This is the first, the very adorable Wee Boxy Basket pattern by Laura Cunningham of Sweet Cinnamon Roses.
Having made nearly all of Laura's patterns before, they are so cute and well written, I offered to pattern test this one before it was released. I didn't have the interfacing Laura suggested in the pattern so I made two versions. The mustard one using two layers of Vilene H250 interfacing and the cat one with fusible fleece, along with Pellon Shape Flex on the linings. Both worked out really well, just goes to show you can sometimes get away with substitutions!
Choosing one of my favourite Lucy Engels hand printed fabrics, teamed with some grey Cotton + Steel prints, this basket has a modern geometric vibe. Occasionally things get made with no purpose but this was made with the intention of holding my make up. Five years ago I made a different basket, which was nearing the end and looking a bit shabby after much use! But it has been nice reaching for products from a basket and starting my day looking at something I made.
seriously fun stashing
29 March 2015
Today is a mash up of my eclectic taste and some of my favourite things, beautiful fabric and cute stationery!
I happened upon an online shop that sells both too; ModeS4u sells all kinds of kawaii goodies - loads of adorable bento boxes, accessories, toys and much more. I picked up this cute black and white Alice in Wonderland by Kokka, which I plan to fussy cut.
and these gorgeous MT washi tapes - these are such great quality and pricier than some brands but I couldn't resist these patterns and some were on sale (the bottom one was 90p!):
It was hard get a good picture of them but you can see the two metallic ones better in the second picture, they are so beautiful. And how utterly sweet is this moon lunar eclipse tape, it has all the phases of the moon and a little bunny!!
So back to fabric...
There were a couple of lines I really wanted so I visited the Fat Quarter Shop. The first is Maker by Art Gallery Fabrics:
Now I have to be honest, this whole line does not appeal to me, though I love the retro vibe and think it has some gorgeous low volume prints. My picks were: Make Patches Shabby, Maker by Art Gallery Fabrics; Make Tests, Maker by Art Gallery Fabrics and Make Drafts Paper, Maker by Art Gallery Fabrics.
Similarly I found myself drawn to some of the Gossamer prints, there are larger prints I wasn't as fond of but I think these small prints are gorgeous:
The two on the left are beautifully retro: Mirrors and Water, Gossamer by Sharon Holland and Expectations Lilium, Gossamer by Sharon Holland. I am completely in love with the modern and fun Mesh prints, they are so perfect and could be great low volume backgrounds: Joy Mesh, Gossamer by Sharon Holland and Calm Mesh, Gossamer by Sharon Holland.
Then I couldn't resist some yummy fabric from Miss Matatabi...
More low volume and gorgeously retro prints: Winter Irome by Kokka; Circle and Square in grey by Suzuko Koseki and Vintage Cheater Print in red by Atsuko Matsuyuma
and then these neon bright prints - they remind me of the early 90s: Geometric Lines in neon pink and Love Cats in Green, Retro Collection by Lecien. I have plans for these :)
Then more stickers and washi, obviously I have a problem but my planner looks amazing and it's so nice to make organising pretty!
Handy blank circles and flags, blogging and motivational stickers from The Reset Girl and some mad stickers and washi tape from Sticker Paradise.
I picked up more from Patchfinders, this gorgeous Freshly Cut Hyacinths, Meadow by Leah Duncan and some always useful 505 adhesive:
Seems like I had a bit of a spree so better get cracking with the planning and making now!!
Pink Castle Fabrics
15 July 2014
I like having variety in my stash, I love colour and I'm generally drawn to bright and bold prints. I adore Japanese fabrics, modern geometric prints and a good mix of low volume. Happily you can find all of these at Pink Castle Fabrics. I have built up a nice stash, in large part due to being in the Stash Stack Club for a year. I am thrilled to welcome Pink Castle Fabrics as a sponsor of Charm About You.
I have always received wonderful service and fast shipping from Pink Castle Fabrics and fabric I've purchased from them has made its way into many of my projects.
Like this happy bag I made in 2012 using a gorgeous metallic Kokka print for the sewing machine:
More recently I made my favourite oven gloves with a fun kawaii print, dots and checks:
And I used some of my Stash Stack Club fat quarters for my Tiny Dancer quilt:
Pink Castle Fabrics now has a few monthly clubs, you can see them all here. It's a great way to get some variety, whether you're looking for prints or solids and it's fun seeing what great bundles they've curated each month. I am especially excited by the Cotton + Steel Club!
You can also get Quilt Now magazine, I've already got the first issue and it's fabulous. You will want to make so many projects after reading it! They ship worldwide but I definitely recommend those of you in the US and Canada to get a Quilt Now subscription from Pink Castle Fabrics.
At Pink Castle Fabrics you can enjoy browsing through gorgeous fabric collections; they have yardage, pre cuts and amazing bundles. They also have a great sale section.
I suggest you have a shopping trip at Pink Castle Fabrics because right now for every $50 you spend you will receive a Golden Ticket, every one is a winner and the Grand Prize is 144 fat quarters! See this post for all the details.
Happy shopping!
happy big pouch
27 November 2012
Welcome to my contribution to the Happy Little Pouch Hop!
If you're new here, please stay and have a look around my blog, I'm busy sew-nesting as I'm expecting a baby in January so I have been trying to get lots done before then. It's always fun to get to know other crafters too so please comment away!
My make is not so 'little' - it's actually the biggest pouch I've made so far. I needed something to keep my templates in and once I saw the fabulous Vintage Sewing Machine and Notions paper pieced pattern by Charise Creates I knew I had to make it.
The zip pouch measures about 10.5" x 11" so a great size to keep large notions! I love the idea of using paper pieced blocks for pouches like this. They add stability and there are so many fun and different patterns available.
Most of the fabrics I used were from my scraps, although the black glittery text fabric is a Kokka print and the draped fabric is this sewing machine stitches print by aldea from Spoonflower.
I'm still fairly new to paper piecing and there were some frustrating moments where I made mistakes but for the most part I am really happy with how it turned out and it was so fun working out what fabrics to use.
This gorgeous vintage notions fabric I used on the other side was sent to me by the lovely Rachael some time ago and I was saving it for something special - it works so well and I just love it.
I also love the crazy green and orange zip combination. Makes me smile.
Be sure to go and visit my fellow happy little pouch hop blogger Courtney at Mon Petit Lyons today, who has a great tutorial for making a zip pouch with a handle! Don't forget to add your pouch makes (made during the Hop) to the Flickr group for a chance to win prizes from these great sponsors:

I have lists of lists
17 September 2012
I've been busy doing family things as well as sewing whenever I get a chance. I have so many projects on the go it's hard to keep track, I seriously have a million lists right now. I crazily keep adding things I have to make because I love them/want them/need them, I want to try something new or because I need to gift things. I thought I was getting projects checked off but apparently not fast enough.
Anyway I've done some stuff...
All caught up on the How Far Will You Go? QAL:
I also let the little one loose on the scraps and she had fun gluing, talking about colours and making shapes. Fun game when you don't know what to do with those little extra bits!
One more Vintage Holiday QAL block done too:
I'm working on some things I can't show you yet but all in good time... ok maybe just a sneaky peek:
I'm joining in a couple of blog hops next month, click below to learn more! They are both going to be awesome:

Stayed tuned for some great tutorials and projects!
I also joined another Bee, how could I not when it's being run by the fabulous Helen, Nicky and Sheila! There are a wonderful group of women in the Bee, all very talented and inspiring so I'm thrilled to be part of it. It's kicking off in January and, thanks to Nicky (who reminded me I will be giving birth that month) that's my month to chose a block, so thinking cap on and all suggestions welcome! Also really love the premise of the Bee's creation... that it's scrappy and UK based so I can save some pennies :)
For spending on loveliness like this glittery Kokka text fabric from Pink Castle Fabrics I got recently (totally blaming Katy and her bloody What's New British/American Pussycat - where she lures us into sales and gorgeous new fabric lines from lovely online shops!!)
But it's so sparkly and pretty... and look it even has a message for me in it!!
Better lay off all those potato cakes, cheese and crisps then. Current craving is for jars of baby puddings... mostly fruit puree ones. Don't even ask, my husband thinks I'm totally bonkers!!
