pretty and novel stash
26 November 2017
This week I got a squishy fabric parcel from Fabricworm and I had stuffed that envelope full of sale goodies!
I'm trying to shop smart and after assessing what I already have in my stash I knew I needed some more good blender prints and I'm lacking fun prints for fussy cutting so I was on the hunt for those too.
First I couldn't resist this sweet fortune teller print, which is lawn and so beautiful to the touch. The Aneela Hoey print was one I had seen someone use and fell in love with it and Blueberry Park is always fabulous as it plays so nicely with other fabrics.
left to right: Fortune Teller in Light Pink, Sleeping Porch by Heather Ross; Jenny's Plaid in Smoke, Stay Gold by Aneela Hoey; Flowerbed in Glacier, Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis and Trellis in Coal, Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis.
And I picked out some random prints that just drew me in with their cuteness! Like this playful cat border print and prints with hot pink in them:
Finally how great are these funky sewing themed prints?! I think these will make cute pouches and pincushions. Actually I'm sure that both these fabrics will find there way into lots of my projects, I can't resist those charming illustrations!
Notions in pink and Machines in blue, Thimbles and Threads by Robert Kaufman
I may have done a little black friday shopping too so there will be more to come! Did anyone else succumb to the sales?
Speaking of... quickly pop over to my Etsy shop because there is a discount on my patterns through Cyber Monday, click here for the sale! (no code required, discount has already been applied). A great excuse to pick up patterns and use up some of that fabric ;)

CHSI Stitches 2016
07 March 2016
I was thrilled to be invited to CHSI Stitches this year, a huge trade show at the NEC in Birmingham. A chance to see all the new fabric and bask in stitchy goodness without being able to buy anything! It was also the perfect opportunity to meet up with Nat and hand over the #therearenowordsquilt. I was super excited to receive a press pass and we got a lovely welcome, thank you ladies!
There was a lot to see and we actually did get lost, there were so many stands! I loved the towering wall of craft books and being able to see so many useful Clover tools in one place. There was the new Art Gallery Fabrics denim but I have to be honest it was really hard to get nice pictures because the lighting was so bad.
The highlights were definitely meeting lovely fellow quilters and bloggers, being able to see the beautiful samples and being able to talk in a totally geeky way to companies about needles and thread!
I finally actually met Karen Lewis - she was part of our quilting bee, Bee A Brit Stingy, before she got too busy! ;) It's so lovely to meet someone you feel you've known for years and they are just as friendly and wonderful as you imagined them to be. Also what a beautiful display she had!
I am in love with the colour combinations in the HRTs cushion she made, as well as the adorable bunnies from this pattern. The colours of the Blueberry Park prints are all gorgeous.
This amazing quilt was made by Nicky using the Welsh Blanket Quilt pattern by Mary - she made it double sided! Really stunning!
Another pretty booth was Dashwood Studio, filled with really cute and inspiring makes. The shoes!
I would happily have this gorgeous quilt by Lou Orth on my wall! And those bags - second from the left was made by Katy, who has mad bag making skills and shares excellent tips on her blog!
At the Aurifil stand it was cool to see the projects made by designers using their thread collections. I fell in love with Bari J.'s stitching, it was beautiful!
We had lunch with three delightful Northerners - Justine and Lisa from Simply Solids and Katy Jones, editor of Quilt Now. I couldn't stop laughing. I want to move to Huddersfield. If you can get to the shop I highly recommend going and taking a class or joining the Simply Sew'in evenings, you will learn a lot in great company!
I really enjoyed my day out and was thoroughly inspired after seeing so many beautiful projects and fantastic products. It has definitely enhanced my sewjo!
*this post is a little late, I meant to publish it before my trip to Paris but in the excitement it somehow didn't happen. Good news is I will have plenty of sewing to show you soon :)
Delightful ~ Ava and Daffodil
22 January 2016
I finished a couple more hand pieced blocks for my Farmer's Wife 1930's Sew-along quilt and they are possibly my favourite ones so far.
#10 Ava I chose the dandelion fabric for the wish for a child and the wish for a sister. The colour of the Blueberry Park print and the sweet little Liberty roses seemed perfect to evoke the love for the two adopted girls and the "bliss of having babies to cuddle". This block feels so 'me' - the colours, the sentiment, the traditional and modern. I really feel love when I look at it, maybe because I thought about my own two girls as I sewed.
#26 Daffodil I've seen some comments in the facebook group about people having difficulty and/or not liking this block. It wasn't the easiest to sew, I think the shapes felt very awkward and (possibly because I traced the templates late at night) my pieces didn't seem to fit perfectly. I'm still happy with the final result and the letter made me like it even more.
I'm a romantic and I love just being with my husband, I have had many such "a jaunt" with him and it is spending care free time together that makes the everyday chores and responsibilities easier. My good friend gave me a lovely card with a nest that I framed and I do think about our house as a "love nest".
I didn't want to veer away from the natural colours of a daffodil but also didn't want to pick a bright yellow that wouldn't work with the other blocks. The brightness of the leaf/stem print adds a touch of fun, like the "child's delight" of the couple in the letter. I picked a soft, romantic background. I like the overall feel of this block.
On to the next ones.
Have a lovely weekend!

13 December 2015
I had a Fat Quarter Shop splurge recently... I really wanted a couple of prints (from Katie Jump Rope, Fibs and Fables and Gooseberry) and then I came across some more gorgeous prints, a couple of which I had never seen before and am really in love with!
left to right: Atomic Dot in Nugget, Katie Jump Rope by Denyse Schmidt; Floral Stripe in Sorbet, New Bedford by Denyse Schmidt; Gooseberry Patch in Midnight, Gooseberry by Lella Boutique and Ruffled in Midnight, Gooseberry by Lella Boutique (LOVE this print!)
Now I know brown isn't always popular with modern quilters but that Katie Jump Rope print is stunning! My six year old daughter also declared it her favourite of the whole lot so that's saying something!
left to right: Escape in Midnight, Fibs and Fables by Anna Maria Horner; Minutes in Brick, Fibs and Fables by Anna Maria Horner; Splash in Spring, Cascade by Jessica Levitt (very pretty and a useful low volume print) and Sprinkles Glitch in Rainbow, Playing Pop by AGF Studios.
I do not know how I hadn't seen the Playing Pop line (not enough blog reading?!) but it is gorgeous. There are some stunning prints, modern and funky in great colours. I think the AGF Studios lines are often brilliant and this one really appeals to me. The Sugar Crystals and Clueless Hearts prints are my favourites - I need to find an excuse to get them! ;)
I didn't need an excuse to get the one above because it's got my name in it! Lucy Monkey Magic, Gardenvale by Jen Kingwell (now sold out but you can get the Carnevale colourway on sale if you're quick!). I love that you get so many different dots in one cut of fabric!
There is currently a sale on the new Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis at Pretty Fabrics and Trims so I got a couple and I will be using these in my Farmer's Wife 1930's quilt:
left to right: Babs in Navy, Vintage Florals by Michael Miller; Flowerbed in Creamsicle, Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis and Allotments in Ash, Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis.
Finally I went a bit bonkers at Aliexpress and got a load of stationery - for me, for the kids and for gifts! It was fun opening that box!
Have you had any fun parcels to open recently?
