sometimes you have to go with what you've got
I'm afraid my le challenge finish for this months theme PRECIOUS is not a sewing project but a result of some crafting with the kids that we did the other day. Yes I fully intended to make something else but I've had no time and with a poorly girl earlier in the month and makes that had to be finished it got pushed aside.
So I admit defeat and offer you some glittery painted pinecones (a la Making Rebecca Lynne) in a jar.
The jar itself is precious because it housed the delicious bramble jelly my nan made and labelled. She always asks for the jars back but I'm secretly squirreling them away because I just love both the jars and her handwriting. This was also some fun precious time spent with the kids. Apologies for not getting my sew on for this one but there may be months not quite as good as others ;)

Less blogging more sewing going on around here...
I finished this second Rainbow Log Cabin quilt and it's in my shop
I used happy bright colours and a bit of low volume to balance it out.
There's lots of fun panels, strawberries and a pot of jam?! So cute!
I also finished another embroidered custom cushion with pretty girly prints:
Another custom order from a dear friend, a bright and bold play mat, backed with soft flannel:
This was not an easy make because I picked the highest loft batting. While this will be great for a baby it was not great for my machine. I attempted quilting and it went horribly wrong. So I had a re-think and after seeing Rebecca's post I decided tacking was the way to go. No way was I going to do fmq when my walking foot couldn't even deal, so I turned to what I love - a bit of hand stitching.
I did some little star stitches, coordinating the thread with the fabrics on the front. The back looks like a chesterfield sofa and it stops the fabric from shifting around. I hope the family it's gifted too will love it!
And I do enjoying wrapping and sending out my handmade wares:
Right back to the making, I have another custom quilt and a yoga bag that need finishing!

Oh I love fabric parcels of yummy happy fabric!
These gorgeous fat quarter bundles arrived from Fluffy Sheep Quilting, Happy Go Lucky and 2wenty Thr3e with coordinated solids:
A beautiful Summer Kona jelly roll, some yardage (Children At Play - Hopscotch Soft Pink, Pam Kitty Love - Grey Dots on Check, Lakehouse - White on White Dots) and a Baby Jane charm pack from the Fat Quarter Shop:
Today there's been no playing with fabric but I've enjoyed crafting with the kids. After seeing Rebecca's sweet tutorial we picked up some pine cones on a walk through the park and after unsuccessfully trying to wrestle the lid off the PVA glue I remembered we had glitter paint so we went with that instead (also saved cleaning up the glitter!).
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to find a suitable vessel to display their glittery handiwork!

Making Christmas Cross Stitch
Thank you to Janine and Rebecca for asking me to be part of this years Making Christmas! I knew I wanted to make more decorations this year and I've been wanting to try cross stitch on fabric for a while so this was the perfect opportunity for me to merge the two.
I love Christmas songs so I went with my favourite and a couple that just sprung to mind...
You can view and download the patterns for free here, it is just the grids so you know where to stitch but that's really all you need right?! You could use the pattern on anything not just for ornaments - I think they'd look great on Christmas cushions with some embroidery.
I made a couple of ornaments and unfortunately they didn't quite go to plan. I used some soluble canvas so I could cross stitch on fabric and watching it disappear in the water was cool! I'm alright with admitting these were done quickly and aren't the prettiest things I've ever made. I think I will try the patterns in another way. My tree is ok, I think the fabric and cute button make it a little retro...
but my idea of making a bell was disastrous, I mean really bad! Even my daughter had no idea what it was, so that was quickly scrapped (without photographic evidence) and turned into a more modern triangle. Maybe an odd shape for Christmas but just go with it, ok?!
Thankfully I've been saved and my wonderful friend Erin at Missy Mac Creations made this gorgeous version. Thank you my love! Aren't those christmas bauble buttons the cutest?!

I've also been busy hanging around the Manchester Craft and Design Centre, where my husband is having the second Yuck Pop Up. The opening night was a lot of fun and he's been busy selling framed prints. Since it's small business Saturday this weekend it would be great if you could come and visit or if you're too far then check out the website!

- Quilt for one of my best friends Giant Chevron Quilt - done!
- yoga bag - no progress
- custom quilt order - top done, needs basting and quilting.
- dresses for the girls - I'm not sure this will get done but I really want to!

Apparently I hit the jackpot and got some extra of the Micheal Miller Plaid because it was the end of bolt and UK folk might be interested to hear my order arrived in 5 days with no extra charges.
Finally I've been filling in job applications forms, please wish me luck!

November was bright so December can be merry
I've had fun making bright and bold things this month...
I also managed to finish Charlotte's bee block for Bee A Brit Stingy yesterday. I haven't done flying geese before and all the points are not 100% perfect so I hope Charlotte will forgive me, I tried my best! The pattern and colours she chose are fabulous and I know it will make a stunning quilt.
I finished a couple of other things this month but they can't be shown... soon though!
We have had more fun with cardboard this weekend. Firstly the lovely Lynne let me test her wonderful Quilt Barn Advent Calendar. Fred had great fun with this one, I couldn't find the double sided tape so we used a regular cheapo glue stick and it worked!
We also went back to the classic hiding in a cardboard box:
