Just One Quilt

17 January 2020

Jenni Smith has created a video series for Just One Quilt. In the films quilters talk about their story; what quilting means to them, their unique process and the benefits it brings them. Each quilter is obviously different and it's a fun way to get inspired and learn more about them.

Despite what my career history might suggest and the fact that I would happily speak in front of hundreds of people, there is always part of me that gets nervous when it comes to speaking about myself. What these films show is how valuable each and every creator's experience is, that we can learn from and encourage each other through our stories. And while we might approach things differently or have varying purposes, we are connected by our passion for making and the (sometimes unexpected) rewards that result from quilting.

A huge thank you to Jenni for including me in this project, as well as personally for championing and inspiring me so much.
It's a thrill to be in such excellent company, do check out the other quilters wonderful stories too!

Watermelon Stitchy Pie needle case

01 April 2016

This is the watermelon version of my Stitchy Pie needle case. It is the most useful needle case, it helps me organise all my hand sewing needles in a cute way and is perfect for using up scraps!

I teach this as a class but am contemplating making the pattern available for sale, let me know in a comment if you would be interested. **UPDATE! The pattern is now available to buy, click here or visit my Etsy shop.

I did some of the same stitches as the original, added some new ones and a few rows of hand quilting. I also used a popper because I think that is easier to open (the magnet was too strong, a weak one would work though).

Fabrics used are:
outer - Stars in Hot Pink, Story by Carrie Bloomston
inner - Mesh Joy, Gossamer by Sharon Holland
binding - Steamer Trunk in Gray, Hatbox by Alexia Marcelle Abegg

Here's how it looks in motion...

paper packages

30 August 2015

It has been a fabric filled week!

The most adorably wrapped package from Sunny Day Supply arrived with my order for these pretty prints, which I plan on adding to my Farmer's Wife 1930's quilt and some needles:

left to right: Peanut Butter Cookies in Crispy, Cookie Book by Kimberly Kight; Brown small dot, Lighthearted by Ayumi Mills; Navy Blue Gingham by Kiyohara; 50's Measuring Tape by Suzoko Koseki and Richard Hemming Milliners needles

The package also came with all these sweet extras - thank you Sunny Day Supply :)

I'm venturing into a little dress making, which I might share depending on the results!! I have a full on hatred for making bias binding so I decided to get some from So Biased - who has fabulous fabric taste and stocks binding made from beautiful prints! She has single and double fold, so you can get some for quilt making too.

Then I am incredibly grateful to Carrie Bloomston who sent me this gorgeous bundle of her new collection Story because I was one of the winners of her IG giveaway.

There are fabulous text prints and a great mix of colours, here are some of my favourites:

Check out the STORY Lookbook here for all kinds of gorgeous inspiration. There is already a plan brewing in my mind as to what to use these for!

If you aren't familiar with Carrie and her work take a look at her website - I think she does all she does so well and I enjoy her whole ethos, like her annual unplugging.

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend, and the Bank Holiday for those in the UK :)

today

26 March 2015

I took some fabric, turned it into hsts

and started making blocks

I usually don't get much sewing in during the day and surprised I could today... all the kids were home and have had the dreaded stomach bug again. They didn't have the energy for trouble making though and mostly sat watching TV, so I took advantage when I could ;)

There was some random hugging

and reading, writing and drawing too. Here's what Joan gave me:

A lovely note and a story - which is about a silly pufferfish that hit herself in the face because she lost her book but she was sitting on it!! She is currently obsessed with pufferfish and really wants to go to Japan to see some :) She thinks they are beautiful and is constantly drawing pictures of them. I got her a book from the library with different sea life in it, surprisingly our local library didn't have a book dedicated to pufferfish?!?
