Christmas lunch
19 December 2013
No I'm not about to start sharing recipes, I still go to my mum's house for my Christmas lunch ;)
Today was the kids Christmas lunch day at school and also 'wear a Christmas jumper day'. Well they don't have Christmas jumpers but they have a mum that can sew. I searched for a reindeer applique pattern and did some easy zig zag stitching to make these:
Happily worn by the kids in blurry pictures:
Mine isn't as inventive as Susan's recent creation but I'm pleased with them. It was actually quite hard to find a decent free pattern but this one is brilliant and comes in three sizes. Husband has suggested that I make one for the baby too and possibly even for us. Honestly I don't even think he was being sarcastic!! She has a red dress that would suit this perfectly and it would be cute for all three of them to sport rudolphs.
My son took it upon himself to decorate our house at the weekend. He creatively used his drawings and attached pipe cleaners to hang them up. Some are lovely and Christmassy:
That says 'Christmas decoration' in case there was any doubt. It also says 'chop chop', that's pretty random.
Some are not so festive, unless you live in Australia maybe:
He literally has tied these everywhere:
My banisters are covered. It is so cute though and I love that he just did this himself with no prompting.
If you're doing any last minute Christmas projects and need a fun quilting pattern, try my holly and berries fmq pattern, it is super fast and easy!

23 October 2013
The kids and I had great fun the other day with some Sharpies and felt. We decorated some skulls after I was inspired by Rebecca's Day of the Dead post.
Then last night I took a bit more felt and embroidered a couple of black skulls.
This was a nice surprise for them this morning!
It's a start for our Halloween decorating.
I got round to a little EPP too and am back to making more individual Rose Star blocks. This one includes some gorgeous fabric I swapped during the fugly party with the lovely Laura. I think they look very un-fugly!
Once I've finished this post I'm going to get the binding on this beauty:
I am resolved to get more time at my sewing machine. I have bee blocks to get done too but I'm bursting with things I want to make and they won't get done without some machine love!
It's pretty hard to tear myself away from my adorable family though...
see!
Guess I will have to wait until they've all gone to bed ;)

It is very nearly Christmas at our house!

It's official... we bought a tree! Just waiting on the local shop to deliver it (which they do for free, got to love that) then we can decorate. Good job I have made a start on some decorations this week.
completed
- Festive garland - I made this after seeing the tutorial at Ellison Lane Quilts by Adrianne of Little Bluebell. With no die cut machine I had to hand cut the circles and in my haste may have folded the felt over a couple of times so I could cut more than once circle at a time - they're not perfect but in the grand scheme of things I think it'll still look pretty. It's hard to see in the picture but the thread is metallic so it has a cool sheen to it, which will look nice with the tree lights.
As recommended by Adrianne, I have wrapped the garland around some cardboard so it stays neat until I use it.
- Kids 'Good' reward chart
in progress:
- English Paper Piecing, my first hexies (I have been doing Rose Stars for a while but that was my initial try at epp and I've never done normal hexies before). I had planned to make placemats with these but, to be totally honest, I'm not sure we're that organised or formal in this house and I don't think they'd get much use. Much better to recover a cushion I don't like instead!
- A new quilt. Perhaps not the best time to start working on a new quilt but I couldn't help myself. I've had the fabric for this one since before I started blogging (I started quilting about a month before I blogged) but now I have a great reason to finally make it. Unfortunately I am keeping this under wraps and it's part of a bigger plan. I can share it some time next year but may show sneak peeks before then if I can't contain myself! For now I'll call it the May quilt.
no progress:
- Rose Stars
- HFWYG? QAL
- Blogger's BOM
- Braid Quilt
- granny blanket
