happy mail kawaii case
13 September 2018
Autumn is here, the kids are back at school and I have time to make a little something just for me! I saw the Happy Mail Kawaii Pencil Case designed by Mollie Johanson and immediately wanted to make one. This sweet case is simple to sew and easy to personalise. I'm actually going to use mine as a catch all in my handbag, for my glasses when I occasionally don't need them (the hard case I made houses my sunglasses) and any extra bits that I don't want floating around the bottom of my bag!
Choosing fabric was interesting, I didn't want to use anything too patterned because it would detract from the cute smiley face. Being me I didn't want it to be completely plain either though. When I hit on this grid print - which is Aerial Clay, Gathered by Bonnie Christine - I knew I had a winner. Rather than use cotton inside, I picked out some heathered felt bought in a recent haul to add some more structure and give the case a soft lining.
Then I had to decide on a stamp and I auditioned lots of prints that had fussy cutting potential. Funnily I found that I wasn't in the mood for anything obvious, the sort of bright quirky motif I would usually pick didn't seem right. The spirit of the fabric range seemed to suggest something calmer and ultimately I stuck with the same Gathered collection, using these fern leaves from the Simple Living print. I love the fact that print has so many nice illustrations all separated by dots, so much cutting/piecing potential!
classes, stickers and weight loss
04 January 2016
A random combination for a post but hey that's my life!
The new term is starting at Patchfinders - the local quilt shop I work at - and I have a fun line up of classes covering different techniques. In a previous class a couple of ladies mentioned they would just like a day to make some blocks, to practice and gain confidence, so I'm running a class doing just that. I picked two blocks that I thought were simple but fun and one block that requires fussy cutting and working out measurements to piece your own block.
The blocks alone don't look great hung up in a quilt shop though so I turned it into a simple runner with a little bit of hand quilting and scrappy binding, and now it can be displayed. Of course the blocks could easily be the start of a quilt or made into cushions.

If you follow me on Instagram you will know I love stickers (I may have talked about them here too!!). My latest order was from JuJuAllOver and I am in love with this shop. Their shop announcement states, "Welcome to JuJuAllOver where you are more than welcome to be random with us." - how awesome!
I bought this cool Bokeh sheet and some custom headers (they come in lots of different colourways), which I requested to say 'To Sew', and they sent this cute free wintery sampler:
And THEN I hit the sticker jackpot (at this point it's fine for you to think I'm a bit crazy) because I've been on the lookout for some Adventure Time stickers. It's one show I will actually watch with my children! It's hilarious and sweet and weird and brilliant. The best bit is JuJuAllOver lets you customise which characters you get on the sheet!! I ordered princesses and BMO, my favourites. I bought the small sheet and there's also a large sheet with fewer but larger stickers.

For those of you into cartoons, comics, Disney or such, check out JuJuAllOver for the cutest stickers! Look at them on instagram for coupon codes and offers, and also shipping to the UK was totally reasonable :)
Stickers are going to help me track my weight loss. I made my own sort of reward chart to keep in my planner using mason jar stickers from Oregon Country Store and hexie stickers from The Reset Girl. I have a lot to lose so I'm hoping a visual will help and I can reward myself by filling up the pink jar!
I'm not on a plan or doing a particular diet - as soon as you tell me I can't have something I will have ALL of it! So I'm just being conscious, making good choices and exercising more. Wish me luck... and ask me to show you this jar in a couple of months!

I'm in love with my oven glove
16 May 2014
I really am. That Yummy Lunchtime, Pop N Kids by Lecien fabric is the cutest print ever and is so perfect for the kitchen. I've been needing a new oven glove for a while (my old was was a disgrace) and it's been on my to sew list since I saw Adrianne's oven mitt tutorial last year. I love this tutorial, it's easy to follow and I much prefer this style to individual gloves - you can never find one of them!
Being honest I didn't follow it exactly, I had no A3 paper and kind of just wanted it done so I traced round my old one. I'm pretty sure the measurements are similar though. I also used yardage rather than FQs but the tutorial made that easy to do.
I quilted it in the same way because it was quick and easy and looks good. It also lets that sweet print shine. I used Petit Point in Navy, Petit Points by Michael Miller for the main fabric and Graph Check in Orange for the binding.
Then I took it outside and there was photobombing:

Now at least I will be smiling while I'm in the kitchen!
In other news we've announced the new theme over at le challenge, this time it's CHARITY. Join us, create anything based on the theme (you could donate something to charity but there's other ways to interpret it!) and link up a finished project on June 15th for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop. Alphabet embroidered quilt
29 November 2013
I am really proud of this quilt. It took me a while to decide what to do with those cute bear, alphabet and number panels but a little bit of embroidery and some bright modern fabric makes for an adorable baby quilt!
I used different stitches to highlight details on each letter block.
Of course there's a 'Q' quilt!
mmm french knot cherries!
I did straight line quilting with my trusty cone of Aurifil 50wt in 2021.
The quilt is for sale in my Etsy shop.
I used different bold modern fabrics and dots and the backing is Riley Blake, Apple of My Eye - I really love that print! The black and white stripe binding worked perfectly.
Don't miss out - check out this post for a great discount at Fluffy Sheep Quilting until 31st Nov!
