a few (mostly fabric) additions
08 November 2018
One of the things I love about visiting a quilt shop is getting to see fabric collections you've seen online, in real life. I was teaching at Patchfinders the other day and, after ogling City Nights by Lewis and Irene on my laptop, some had to come home with me! It has lovely touches of metallic, just enough sparkle without being too much. I fell for, from left to right: Architectural Blender in copper on light and City Buildings in copper and copper on multi. The copper glistens so beautifully and the colours are totally my style.
While I was at the shop, a local quilting group was meeting in one of the rooms and they were selling Super Snips mini scissors to raise money for the charity Siblings Together. Of course I bought a pair and of course I chose pink. How dinky and cute are they?! Handy that it has an attached cover too. The whole thing measures less than 2".
Pickle Dish mini quilt
07 October 2016
I am smitten with this mini quilt! It is a class sample for my Pickle Dish blocks class on 5th November 2016 at Patchfinders (as of writing I believe this class is full but you can always call to check or add your name to the waiting list, I will try to run it again next year if there is interest!).
The blocks are entirely machine pieced and I chose to hand quilt the mini. I used foundation paper piecing to construct the arcs and I have tips and tricks for piecing those curved pieces.
I enjoyed playing with the colours and using up fabric scraps from my stash. There are so many possibilities for colour variations!
There is one little fussy cut in my mini but I also think it would look great with more.
The mini was pieced with Aurifil 50wt and then hand quilting using perle thread. I love how the white blends in nicely but creates bold texture.
I finished putting the binding on this afternoon and I even like it from the back!
It will be displayed in the classroom and after teaching I definitely want to find a place to hang this in my home! The finished mini quilt is 16" square.
This is the final make from my Q3 FAL list ☑ (it was originally going to be a cushion but I hope it still counts that I made it a mini!)
Happy Friday everyone!

Stitchy Pie - embroidered sampler needle case
02 September 2015
This is one of my favourite things I have made! I wanted to teach an embroidery class and it's always nice to have something useful at the end of a class and you learn a new technique. My inspiration was a folded fabric needle case I received in a swap a couple of years ago and thought it could be a great way to show off pretty stitches. *Edit - the needle case I was kindly given in the swap was made by Cara of Pink Stitches.
The stitches range from basic to slightly more complicated and are all stitches I love to use in my embroidery.
I chose a palette that feels quite folky, with a mix of subtle and bright colours. I used a combination of Aurifloss embroidery thread and perle cotton. The blue fabric reminded me of denim and the pop of the geo print from A Little Bird Told Me by Lewis and Irene makes me smile.
I added a magnetic fastener so it stays nice and secure when you're carrying it around and you can use the different sections to separate your needles. In mine I have written the various types of needles I use at the top of each section so I know which ones to use! You could even embroider them if you wanted to.
✓ another check off my finish-along list!
My needles are in order and it's time for me to get back to some hand sewing, these clam shells are calling me :)

make (up) over and all the fabric
03 May 2015
My make up needed a new home, somewhere I could chuck it after slapping it all on in the morning ;)
I wanted it to be easy to reach, easy to see and in something cute to look at. When I saw this Fabric Basket Tutorial by Amy Smart I knew it would be perfect.
Here's what I was using before, I never travel so it's just sad and I always had to pour everything out to find what I was looking for! (This isn't all my make up, I have draws and boxes full too - this is just the stuff I use most)
Now I have cute 80s kitties and fun geometric print to look at :) and another check off my Finish-Along list.
Fabrics from Miss Matatabi - Outside fabric: Love Cats by Lecien Retro Lining: Geometric Lines in pink (there are other colours available here)
I think this basket will make me smile in the morning!
I adore cute Japanese prints and you can get 30% off at Pink Castle Fabrics today (hurry! I stopped writing this so I could get my order in). Use code JAPAN30 Sorry the code has expired but you can see all in stock Japanese prints HERE.
We got the new Lewis and Irene range 'A Little Bird Told Me' in at Patchfinders, it's really pretty! I had to take some home with me:
Left to right: An older Hoffman print (not sure what it's called), Geo and Tea and Geo on Spring Yellow, A Little Bird Told Me by Lewis and Irene.
And I got some yummy fabrics from the Fat Quarter Shop for an upcoming project:
left to right: Linen Shibuya, Tokyo Train Ride by Sarah Watts; White Lined Grids, Doe by Carolyn Friendlander and Petite Plus, Black & White by Cotton + Steel
It was a bank holiday weekend here in the UK so I am enjoyed a nice long weekend with this wild bunch:
Hope you enjoyed your weekend too!
