sounds of joy
12 September 2013

I like the sound of silence. I don't get a lot of it and I've been thinking about quilting words with quotes/songs/titles relating to the word 'silent' - if you know any good ones let me know in a comment!
Fred likes the sound of Daddy arriving home (heart melting).
Joan likes the sound of fluttering fairies (I didn't mean imaginary ones but I'm not arguing with a tempestuous three year old and that is too cute and very descriptive).
Lois likes the sound the printer makes (seriously - my mum has lent me her printer - every time I use it she gets SO excited, hopefully one day she'll have a high paying career in technology!).
In other random have you seen Christa's new Quilt Along?
enjoyment and a very lucky winner
04 September 2013
It is busy back to school time, life is really stressful but thank goodness for pretty things to sew. I have been working on my star flowers and am loving how they look:
It has also been quite a long time since I have done any embroidery so I started working on this piece; it is written by Jodi, she kindly gave me permission to stitch her beautiful poem.
And now to the winner of my giveaway...
Huge congratulations Catrin! I'm sending you an email.
For the sake of being honest, I had to draw again because the first winner was a no reply blogger and you were warned to leave your email address! Gah. That is so annoying.
Thank you again to all the sponsors and to everyone that entered and left such lovely comments. I hope you enjoy discovering and supporting these great companies:
I'm off to enjoy more sewing :)
a quick word
29 July 2013
The hand quilting is going well.
Most of my time, however, is now being spent trying to think of ways to STOP Lois from walking!! She's only six months old and this is her new trick, cruising along the sofa.
I love that little tongue sticking out with determination.
So while I'm busy why not go shopping...
Have you seen my sponsor ChristaQuilts is having an incredible sale, making way for new stock of modern fabrics. There's lots of gorgeous fabric on sale with up to 50% off. You can get great discounts on lots of lines including Amy Butler and even the new Happy Go Lucky!!
Take advantage and grab yourself some bargains HERE now
goodbyes and good buys
23 July 2013
Yesterday was my son's last day at Reception so of course that meant gifts for the teachers. For his class teacher I made this cushion with a bit of hand stitching
And then we made all the teaching staff in his class these lavender (from our garden) stuffed hearts:
So it's 'hello summer' and I'm dreaming about some lovely fabrics!
Like the totally gorgeous 30's Playtime at the Fat Quarter Shop
I'm hoping fabric fairies magically send me some of this!
Prints to Polka Dots have now got Geekly Chic in stock, as well as a great sale going on.
Fluffy Sheep Quilting has these cute Little Matroyshka Dolls and Clocks on sale, as well as other gorgeous prints.
and Christa Quilts is having 20% off Laural Burch Fabulous Felines this week.
the braidadelic quilt
07 June 2013
I think it's quite obvious why I've called this the 'braidadelic quilt'!
I love the braid pattern and the bright colours of the Amy Butler Soul Blossoms prints.
I also used one of the prints on the back and for the binding, which I got from ChristaQuilts:
For the braids I mostly followed this tutorial
Although I chose not to trim the braids but sewed them together as they were, just pinned them right sides together and sewed a straight line 1'4" away from where you would trim the triangles...
and then had fun cutting them off afterwards. Seemed quicker and easier that way!
For the quilting I did straight diagonal lines to the middle and then went back the other way, it was fun!
This quilt makes me silly happy! It is only small but makes a fun little playmat or pram quilt for a wired baby ;)
I think I'm going to display this at the PTA summer fair where I shall be selling my makes... urm better get back to making then!

Neglected
22 May 2013
So I've been busy... yes with my 3 kids... housework boringness... but more importantly sewing the blues away! There's nothing like starting a new project to lift my spirits:
They'll be more on this at some point but it is the most brilliant cheater print I've ever seen!
Other fabric I adore is Geekly Chic, available here at the Fat Quarter Shop
and those glasses were my contribution to the fabulous Low Volume Swap brilliantly organised by Rebecca - these are my beautiful 10" squares:
and if that wasn't enough she sent me some (can't get in the UK) Denyse Schmidt fabric:
Rebecca is a total star and the gal knows me well! Thanks so very much chica!
In other yummy fabric news...
It is a wonder
22 March 2013
that I've accomplished anything with all my ill children (who are doing better now). I have finally managed to finish a couple of bee blocks that I have been working on for two weeks! Seriously. They aren't hard at all but there were many interruptions to my sewing, I have been cross stitching and I had to finish the May quilt top, which is done but I can't show it yet!
So first up I made these two summer inspired blocks for Jan in Bee A Brit Stingy, using this tutorial:
And this one for Debra in Scrappy? Sew Bee It!, using this tutorial (I added a couple of sails!)
| the background is white - crappy night time picture! |
I really like both of these quilts and it makes me long for a Summer holiday! It seems to be a theme because these gorgeous Glamping fabrics just arrived from Charise after I won her giveaway:
I already have a plan for some of them. If it works I will have one very happy daughter.
I am kind of feeling bad that I'm separating the fabrics. Does anyone else feel oddly guilty when they take fabrics from a collection rather than using them together?? I like mixing it up but then I think the designers have gone to all that trouble of coordinating a line... oh well. I shall just do as I please, better to make something I love!
