owl still love you
I'm linking up to Craft Buds for the Craft Book Month 2013.
When I saw this link party I immediately knew which project to enter, this is the Hootenanny pattern from the brilliant book 'Dare To Be Square' by Boo Davis.
This is one of my very favourite quilts I've worked on, it was also a great collaboration. The top was pieced by me, sent to my amazing cousin Jackie in California, who made the back and long arm quilted it. She sent it back to me and I bound it.
This is the 'Owl Love You' quilt we made for my sister and her husband as a wedding present:
I made the owl and Jackie made these beautiful wedding rings. I love the mix of the modern and the traditional.
Jackie did such a beautiful job of quilting, picking out all the features of the owl and using it as her theme for various patterns.
The icing on the quilt, the newly weds names and date of their wedding:

My finish is one of the most special quilts I've made - in a way each one is special - but this is extraordinary for a number of reasons...
Primarily because this quilt is for my sister and her husband - they are getting married today!!
It is also my first collaboration. The top was pieced by me, sent to my amazing cousin Jackie in California, who made the back and long arm quilted it. She sent it back to me and I bound it.
I was so pleased when I finished the owl, it is the Hootenanny pattern from the book 'Dare To Be Square' by Boo Davis. The fabrics in the owl are all from My Fabric House - they do seriously cute bundles!
The eagle eyed amongst you might have spotted an error though...
OH NO!! The owl is missing part of it's claw! I pieced a section of the blocks upside down and only realised when I had already put the quilt top in the post to Jackie. DUH!
Thankfully she is that awesome that she fixed it. phew.

Yes Jackie is totally awesome... look at the 'back' she made:
beautiful, traditional wedding rings.
She quilted such fabulous patterns that really show off the owl but also work amazingly well on the rings too:

Here it is draped over our double bed so you get an idea of the size and scale of it, sorry the room isn't even big enough for me to get proper shots:
I adore every part of this quilt and know that Jackie and I have poured love into it.
I am so proud to have Chris be my brother-in-law and (official) Uncle to my children.
I hope the quilt will be a wonderful reminder of their special day, how much their family love them, and help keep them warm throughout their happy marriage.

Skull Tooth Cushion
Over the weekend I finished this tooth fairy cushion that a friend had commissioned for her son. He's a little bit older and the monster one I made for his younger brother didn't quite have the cool factor he would want so I designed something a bit different.
The inspiration for the cushion came from Boo Davis' 'Basket Case' quilt in the book Dare To Be Square. I modified the skull design so it could be appliqued and made the jaw into a little pocket.
I used some gorgeous Oakshott cotton for the background and a lovely grey slightly thicker weight fabric for the back.
It was fun to design something with a little edge!
A couple of weeks ago I got to test a paper pieced pattern for Kristy of Quiet Play. If you don't already know it's Donktober this month and Erin of Missy Mac Creations has us celebrating all things Ridonkulous!!
This was quick and relatively easy to piece - I did get my colours mixed up once or twice but I'm still a beginner. Kristy suggested colouring in the paper to be sure what goes where and I will definitely do that next time I'm paper piecing.

Recently I got some wonderful post. This morning I got these fab packs of Aurifil from the lovely Alyssa at Pile O'Fabric:

Next up was a bit of a shock to me... the incredible Amanda from A Crafty Fox had a giveaway that I didn't win!! But then she decided to randomly see who would have been chosen second... and that was me. Now I will always wonder who would be second.
She sent me this gorgeous bundle of DS because I commented that's what I love. I can't believe quite how much she sent and it's all divine! Thank you so much for your generosity as well as your curiosity Amanda :)

I think there's nothing better than meeting blog friends in real life... unless maybe you meet them at the Festival of Quilts and you get on with them even more than you thought.
I was lucky enough to meet up with the lovely Nat on Saturday in Birmingham. We literally spent so much time talking that we didn't see everything at the festival and I VERY nearly missed my train home - I had to rudely jump up and rush off - sorry Nat!! She was so wonderful and easy to talk to it was great fun.
We agreed to make our unborn babies little gifts and I was thrilled when I saw the beautiful owl hat she crocheted for me. Truly adorable!

I made her a Buddy Rabbit from the book Dare to be Square by Boo Davis. I love this little guy and thanks to my friend Michala for suggesting it when I was thinking about what to make.
I used a cute, soft green gingham flannel for the main body and scraps for the tummy. I am so pleased she liked it :)
I have no pictures from the festival (so sorry Hadley!). I was enjoying the company of Susan, Nicky, Laura, Katy (Laura and Katy were both working super hard on the stands but it was nice to chat briefly) and Nat too much :)
I suggest looking at Susan's post for a glimpse at some of the quilts and a funny picture of Nicky and me and Nat with our bumps.
I did of course make some purchases...
I got a couple of lovely Liberty fat quarters - I have plans to make a red quilt and very little red fabrics!! So this is a good start:
A handy triangle ruler from Creative Grids:
And a two scrap bags of Japanese fabrics from The Eternal Maker. In fact there were so many in there that I thought I'd share and have a little giveaway:
You get all this! A couple are quite small scraps but great for paper piecing or little crafting accents, most of them are bigger than you see in this overlapping picture.

So Bleeping Awesome! Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday!
Hello!! Today I'm hosting Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday! If you're new - welcome!
I'm not going to bother introducing myself and what I do because I'm simply too excited ;) If you would like to stay and look around after linking up that would be great! But I have to get on to the main event...
Now I'm not one to toot my own horn in normal circumstances but for this one - toot toot!!!
It is SO BLEEPING AWESOME (because it's a robot!!)
This is the 'Does Not Compute' pattern from the wonderful book Dare To Be Square by the talented Boo Davis. This book is amazing and I want to make every single thing in it. Already on my list is the hottenanny quilt (and I have the fabric ready and waiting!). The instructions are so easy to follow and she has great advice for someone just starting out but then she also has projects anyone would love to make! The robot was really simple because there's none of those pesky triANGERles. I quilted it very simply so the focus remains on the fun design:
I love the backing fabric from the I Heart collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Timeless Treasures. Those cogs are just so cool. A lot of the fabric I used for the top was given to me by my wonderful cousin, including the cute bee fabric:
I also love the binding fabric, which is the totally gorgeous Herringbone in Lake from the Modern Meadow collection by Joel Dewberry - as soon as this came back into stock at Hawthorne Threads, I snapped it up - even though I've still got some I'm wishing I'd got even more. My son has seen the fabric lying around and told me he loves it because it looks like cobwebs! (He had an own clothes day at school yesterday, guess who went dressed as Spiderman?!!)
Did you notice the crappy embroidery?! This quilt is clearly destined to be loved by my son so I attempted some chain stitching rather than a label (see why embroidery is on my list of things I want to do!!):
I'm planning on putting it out on his bed on Christmas day evening, I sort of think unwrapping a quilt isn't that exciting for a three year old but seeing it laid out will be a fun surprise :)
I've been plodding along with this one and it was only because of the TGIFF ladies and their kind acceptance when I wanted to host that it's actually finished - nothing like a bit of motivation! So thank you to Laura of Quokka Quilts and M-R of Quilt Matters! Also thank you to Rebecca for a bit of nudging!
I blogged about making this quilt in my third ever blog post back at the very beginning of September this year so it's only over 3 months since I started but it feels like this one has been hanging around forever! I think it's because I've made so many other things in the mean time!! I don't like having unfinished projects, it's just a bit tedious.
So have you managed to finish anything this week? Oh, you have?! How about linking up then ;)
