My aims to Finish Along for Q2
12 April 2014
It's time again to take a look at projects I have in progress and link them up so everyone can give me a good kick up the bum to get them finished!
Roll overs (not in a good lottery kind of way) from Q1:
1. Ottoman - I've said it before and I'll say it again, this tired mama needs something to put her feet up on. Need to prioritise myself and get this done. It's all creased because it's been lying around but it's a great pattern and shouldn't take too long to finish.
2. Star Flower Quilt - It's sad this is getting ignored, the love needs to be reignited.
3. Rose Star Quilt - still probably won't get done but miracles do happen.
4. Butterfly Quilt - still have the last appliqué block to do but so excited to get this one put together and still running a hundred different quilting ideas through my head.
and more WIPs to be done:
5. Baby Quilt - the top is now sewn together so it just needs quilting and binding and all will be revealed next month
6. Poem embroidery - this totally stalled a while ago but I'm hoping the lighter spring days will mean I can get it done (I really need a good daylight lamp!)
7. Bright project for le challenge - link opens on Monday so need to get a shift on!
8. Teeny tiny Liberty hexies - remember those?! I've made three hexie flowers. Driving me a bit mad so might just do one or two more and then think of something to do with them.
9. EPP pincushion - fabrics and pattern picked, a fun little make.
10. Basket for thread - need to sew these little squares and get my thread out of the sad plastic bag they currently reside in.
So that's a bunch of fun things to get finished... providing I don't get sidetracked ;)

FAL list Q1
15 January 2014
New year, new list... although a couple of these have been ongoing for some time this is what I'm hoping to get done for the Finish A Long in the next three months.
1. Bee AMH Feathers Quilt - just a teeny bit more quilting and then binding.
2. Rose Star Quilt - not sure how many more I will do, I really need to work it out but it's still not big enough to be a useful quilt. Thinking about it this probably isn't going to get done but whatever, I'm aiming high.
3. Draft excluder - a commission, needs stuffing and sewing up.
4. Reward chart - another commission. I've planned a design and have gorgeous felt and scraps just waiting to be sewn up.
5. Trimming cushion - using these pretty vintage trims, pieces cut and should be simple to sew.
6. Ottoman - again pieces cut just need to get my act together, my legs need this!
7. S is for Stitch
quilt - I'm up to 'S' so a few more blocks to embroider and only a couple more weeks until my friend's baby is due. The ABC block of the week is 'P' so here's my 'pineapple', not a design from the book but I'm substituting a couple (also see 'J'!).
8. Little doll - I've already put about 6 hours work into this. Not a fast make for a free magazine gift kit but she's so adorable I don't care! She needs shoes and putting together. She was designed by Danielle Thompson of Kitschy Digitals and was free with Issue 34 of Mollie Makes.
9. Clutch bags - Using pretty FQs, I'm making some simple clutches for my Etsy shop / future craft markets.
10. Star Flower Quilt - Need to sew two more rows together and add borders, I think the border pieces are what's putting me off finishing this one but it's been languishing for a while and I know I will enjoy quilting it.
11. Butterfly Quilt - my lovely Bee A Brit Stingy friends have made some gorgeous butterfly blocks for my middle daughter's quilt. I need to make an Alice Brooks one and some applique flower blocks. Since I have no idea how I will quilt it (maybe by hand?) it may not get done this quarter but hey I'll chuck it on the list just in case!
12. Thread catcher - I've got some cute Japanese linen scraps that should be put to use

And I have good reason to get that one done because the theme for this month at le challenge is 'The Rising Sun'. Originally the theme was inspired by Japan but could equally be interpreted as the new year, the sun or anything that you think of! The blog has had a revamp too so end over to le challenge, follow us for inspiration and link up 'the Rising Sun' projects on 15th February for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop.
as you mean to go on
02 January 2014
I ended last year and started this one just as I mean to go on.
On 30th Dec I stepped out with my honey. Our perceptive next door neighbour very kindly gave us a restaurant voucher as a Christmas present so that we could have a night out. Hubbie and I had a lovely meal while my mum babysat and even walking to and from the restaurant was just blissful. Spending time with the man I love (with and without the children around) is wonderful but I would like to spend more time this year with just him!
New Year's Eve we stayed in (though I was taxi for my mum and step dad), lit sparklers (outside) and danced to the Proclaimers.
On 1st Jan we all went to Formby and enjoyed some time on the beach - amazingly it stopped raining and blue skies appeared so we could have a lovely (if cold) afternoon looking for shells and bits of crab (yuck!). We then went to visit my amazing Nan, who filled the kids full of biscuits and chocolate. She's just as brilliant as a great-Nan!
I snuck in a little make too and finished the apple bib (pattern in Patchwork Please!) from my FAL list:

Love, family and sewing - sounds like a great recipe for a happy 2014!
Have you seen the Wishes Quilt Along? The Fat Quarter Shop is doing a monthly qal and asking for donations to their campaign for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Moda and the Fat Quarter Shop will be matching up to $10,000 of the donations made. So you can download the patterns and help raise money for a great cause!
High Voltage Lampshade - Le Challenge THRILLER
14 October 2013
My inspiration for this project began when I saw a sneak peek last month of a wicker cross stitch lampshade tutorial by Elizabeth Cake, which is in Issue 7 of Crafty Magazine.
Then while watching La Ink I was drawn to the High Voltage Logo and realised I wanted to stitch lightening bolts, after all a good storm is pretty thrilling.
Originally I was going to use all bright colours but after seeing the Pantone colour report for Spring 2014 and watching the great introductory video I decided to use a mix of pastel and brights. I love the result.
Each of the lightening bolts is slightly different and I purposely made them striking in opposite directions so it would give a bit of movement to the design.
It was a simple and quick project and I like having a touch of my crafting in the hallway
and of course I couldn't resist putting it on my head before I hung it up!
I managed to snag two of these lampshades from Ebay and I'm still deciding what design to do on the other one. This is the first check off my FAL list for this quarter.
Head over to Le Challenge to see what other people made for this month's theme, thriller and check out Nat's post for a chance to win her thriller make!
