I'm not really here, I'm an assistant

25 September 2013
You're going to have to excuse me. There hasn't been a whole lot of sewing going on, my husband is doing a pop up gallery and I have been assisting where-ever possible. He has worked incredibly hard to do this and I'm immensely proud of him. He has built the coolest structure to display the work... I will share pictures soon.

If you happen to be in the Manchester area then come and check it out! If not you can always visit the Yuck Print House website and follow on Twitter.

accountable

18 September 2013

So here it is, my proper WIP list... not as bad as I thought it might be - I have a lot of projects in my head that I've not starting working on!

Rose Star Quilt - I'm still sewing rows of rose stars, slowly. I haven't got to work on any more but I will need to do that (the pretty green, blue and purple one was done by my lovely friend Nicky!).

Star Flower QAL - All the flowers sewn, hexies cut so need to get them put together.

How Far Will You Go QAL - Sewing the binding on.

Pattern testing - two more rows to sew!

Stitcheries - making progress

Shush ABC BOW - I had this cute panel that my auntie gave me and I decided to join in stitching a letter a week. As it happens one of my best friends is pregnant again so I think this will make a cute baby quilt for her son!

Shush I'm Quilting

I'm planning on picking out whatever detail I like in each picture and doing any stitch takes my fancy! I'm using perle thread and I think it will give a nice texture to the quilt. I don't have the book for the BOW (though I've heard there will be a giveaway at Shush - I'm Quilting) and no spare cash (*** edit I just won a copy from the publishers!!! What are the chances?! The universe clearly knew I should be joining in properly! Enter to get yours at Shush!) so it makes sense to use what I have I will still be using the one I have and doing the book version too - they are making gorgeous stitchings so it's worth taking a look at what everyone else is doing!

I'm having a lot of fun with all these projects and am currently plotting my THRILLER make for Le Challenge, I'm really excited about this one!

Then there's these cute girlies, having more cardboard fun with the best toy, a box.

Anna Maria Horner - my hero

14 September 2013

I love Anna Maria Horner. I mean lurrrve. There's so much wonderful fabric she's designed, her patterns are always gorgeous and I just generally dig the whole vibe of everything she creates. If I was to pick one designer who has influenced my style, who's aesthetic I admire and inspires me to create, it is her. Anna Maria Horner is my creative hero.

You will find her fabric popping up in lots of my projects, if I could afford to buy more I totally would and there are of course the things I've made from her patterns:

Spinning Stars baby quilt

Ring cushion

And for my HEROES challenge this month I have finally completed the quilt top from the Feather Bed Quilt pattern and the fabulous bee blocks that my wonderful 'Bee A Brit Stingy' and 'Scrappy? Sew Bee It' friends have made me - for which I THANK YOU!!

I can only apologise for the dreadful pictures that are to follow. This is about 80" x 100" and I hardly have room to lay it out anywhere, it is going to be a challenge to baste!

Maybe a blurry pic of Lois enjoying the quilt top will make up for it?

For the back I did a jelly roll race thing using 5" strips of fabric I love (of course there's some AMH in there!) and then cut it to include the row I made of all the siggy blocks.

Hopefully once it's all quilted I will find somewhere to show it off... I'm hand quilting it though so don't hold your breath ;)

Now head over to Le Challenge and see some other HEROES projects!

sounds of joy

12 September 2013

Bianca Hall Silence (is Golden) Neon Sign - Exclusive to Rockett St George
source

I like the sound of silence. I don't get a lot of it and I've been thinking about quilting words with quotes/songs/titles relating to the word 'silent' - if you know any good ones let me know in a comment!

Fred likes the sound of Daddy arriving home (heart melting).

Joan likes the sound of fluttering fairies (I didn't mean imaginary ones but I'm not arguing with a tempestuous three year old and that is too cute and very descriptive).

Lois likes the sound the printer makes (seriously - my mum has lent me her printer - every time I use it she gets SO excited, hopefully one day she'll have a high paying career in technology!).

In other random have you seen Christa's new Quilt Along?

Modern Trees

Beautiful modern trees! It would make a great Christmas wall hanging but I also think it would look gorgeous in Autumnal colours. The trees are easily made from scraps and she has other layouts, including improv blocks on her blog. You do need a Tri Recs ruler set and Christa happens to be giving one away today! But don't go and enter because I'd like to win ;)

unaccountable

11 September 2013

I really wanted to be good this week and give a proper WIP list so I could hold myself accountable and stop flitting about.  Honestly though I can't be bothered. I'm way too tired.

The little one is up nearly every two hours in the night and I'm a lazy mum and have been feeding her every time because it settles her so quickly. Now I'm physically drained from waking and nursing and I've had enough!! I'm trying to get her to eat/drink more today but I'm starting to think it might be habit - hopefully soon we will put her in her own room and see if she can start sleeping better, goodness knows we both need it!

So instead of being organised and telling you everything I'm working on, here's a lovely bundle of fabric that I cut into last night to start something new ;)

and this morning we made more cardboard crap. Yeah! Thanks Yeo Valley for printing fun little things inside your yoghurt packaging and saving a very tired mum from having to think of creative stuff to do!

owl still love you

08 September 2013
I'm linking up to Craft Buds for the Craft Book Month 2013.

Craft Book Month at Craft Buds

When I saw this link party I immediately knew which project to enter, this is the Hootenanny pattern from the brilliant book 'Dare To Be Square' by Boo Davis.

This is one of my very favourite quilts I've worked on, it was also a great collaboration. The top was pieced by me, sent to my amazing cousin Jackie in California, who made the back and long arm quilted it. She sent it back to me and I bound it.

This is the 'Owl Love You' quilt we made for my sister and her husband as a wedding present:

I made the owl and Jackie made these beautiful wedding rings. I love the mix of the modern and the traditional.

Jackie did such a beautiful job of quilting, picking out all the features of the owl and using it as her theme for various patterns.

The icing on the quilt, the newly weds names and date of their wedding:

If you want to see more of Jackie's long arm skills, or would like to contact her about her long arm service or custom quilting please see her Facebook page - Bar XX Quilting

You can read more and see the big OOPS I made in the original post.

Check out all the other book makes at Craft Buds.

rainbow log cabin quilt

06 September 2013

I'm completely in love with this quilt.

From deciding to do something different (for me), to having fun piecing it and seeing the end result be so cool! I loved each block but even when I laid them out I didn't know if it worked. The grey eyelets from 'Flea Market Fancy' by Denyse Schmidt was the perfect choice for the rainbow blocks and, for me, the final touch that made me fall in love.

There's so many fun little fabric pieces in each colour block and my kids loved pointing them out!

The back is a Jay McCarroll print that I've used before, it's a nice vibrant blue with pink squares.

It is quilted in diagonal straight lines using Aurifil 50wt.

Gotta love the quilty goodness draped on the chair my Nan gave me (which I've re-cushioned and thought about recovering but I've grown to love the vintage shininess of it!).

You can buy this quilt in my Etsy shop now
