CHSI Stitches 2019 ~ I won an award!
19 February 2019
Each year I look forward to the CHSI Stitches event - a UK trade show packed with all things fabric, crafts, sewing and quilting. It's a great opportunity to ogle at new launches, discover different products and brands and meet up with - or indeed meet new - people in the industry. Here's a round up of the day (I went on Sunday), the things I loved, new products I spotted and the British Craft Awards evening!
marvellous ☼☼☼

There are some fabrics that I just can not resist...
I saw the print (below right) in a different colourway on Kim's instagram, I might be an enabler but I'm also enabled 😉
A quick search and I found it at Fat Quarter Shop so ordered it along with some other lovelies!
Stripes in Fuschia on Navy, Mostly Manor by Victoria Findlay Wolfe and Fan Dots in Brown, Mostly Manor by Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
The whole Mostly Manor collection is gorgeous - I really love the stripes, the fan dots, the bouquets, the comb petals, the diamonds... go and look! It's a pretty mix of colours too, with some nice pastels for summer!
I picked some other paler prints:
Scallop Dot in Sorbet, Foxtail Forest by Rae Ritchie and Painted Gingham, Sommer by Sarah Jane in Cloud and Bloom.
And just because they are so pretty:
Stem Dot in Pink, Foxglove by Aneela Hoey and Foxgloves in Navy, Foxglove by Aneela Hoey.
Next up are some really gorgeous stickers. I used some as soon as I got them!
These are all from Clever Gal Crafts, amazing quality, quick shipping and I absolutely adore the designs:
This sheet is foiled, so beautiful and shiny! They add some colour and pizzazz to my planner.
The sun has been shining here so it was time for the kids to have new sun hats. The girls both picked straw cat ones from H&M - adorable!
soothing a cold
22 October 2015
It's that time of year where colds and flu abound. I seem to get a sore throat, which I usually try to soothe with hot water, honey and lemon. I came across this brilliant remedy recipe from Simple Green Smoothies and decided to give it a whirl.
So organic lemons, organic ginger and some honey my mum recently brought back from Greece (yes that's honeycomb) have been combined in a lovely jar and are currently in the fridge. I will let you know what the verdict is when I try it.
I also signed up for the free 30-day challenge so I've been getting green smoothie recipes emailed to me each week. I definitely feel a difference already. My hair is definitely shinier and a couple of people have said I look like I've lost weight (I haven't but that felt nice!). I don't use them as a meal replacement, though I don't ever eat breakfast and have been having smoothies in the morning so it kind of is! They really fill you up and I've been experimenting, adding chia seeds and coconut oil when I fancy them.
Check out the Simple Green Smoothies website, there are loads of great recipes to try! It's not one of those 'don't eat food' kind of sites, it's really an honest and inspiring place to get healthy inspiration. They do have a recipe book available to buy but the website is still full of lots of information and free recipes.
the good, the bad and the exhausting
05 August 2015
The good:
I finished my class sample projects and am utterly thrilled with them. I will show them all fully when my class schedule is announced. There's a really fun quilt design I created and managed to finish sewing the binding on that last night. I also finished up a super pretty and useful make that I embroidered:
Can't wait to show you them all in full!
The kids and I have been baking. First some courgette muffins that Lois managed to sneakily devour (that's what happens when mummy is sewing and not paying attention. Oops!) :
And then we made some really yummy homemade granola, I use Lily Pebbles 'Breakfast and Dessert Oats'. It is quick, with simple ingredients and you can add whatever you like into it. I don't grind the almonds, I just use sliced ones and sometimes smush the bag up before I open it so they aren't so big. I add raisins after cooking it.
The kids love this just as a snack on it's own, with yoghurt for pudding or breakfast. They aren't usually big fans of cinnamon and there's a lot in this recipe but somehow they still love it! They have told me they like it more than the shop bought granola. I also use organic ingredients and it's still super cheap. Healthy and easy to make :)
The bad:
I was attempting to make another project as a class sample and I failed epically. Yesterday evening I just gave up on it (and then funnily read this blog post by Angie, so good to know I'm not alone). It was stressing me out, my ideas weren't working, I ended up in tears. I had a chat with hubbie and realised if I'm not even enjoying making it why would I want to teach it?! So I just gave up. It felt so good. It was a relief and now I can concentrate on other things without worrying. Sometimes giving up is not a bad thing.
The exhausting:
I have a horrible summer cold and three energetic children at home ALL day. Enough said.
