distracted

23 April 2014

I've been wanting some fun hair accessories so in preparation I got some lovely fabrics from Miss Matatabi and a couple of sale FQs for good luck:

There's a great reversible double gauze, the most beautiful Joy Flower, Nani Iro (see detail below), Fruit Paradise in Blue, Cotorienne by Yuwa and I'm not sure about the last one - it's pretty but isn't actually the print I ordered so I've contacted Frances and hopefully it can get sorted out. **Edit: She messaged me straight back and is sending me the right one - I love great customer service! Thanks Frances!**

The internet then distracted me with these cute washi tapes I got on sale from Chamby and Cor:

This morning the postman distracted me further when he delivered these beautiful Essentials by Pat Bravo prints that I won in a giveaway from The Intrepid Thread. Art Gallery fabrics are so very soft and I'm hoping to turn these into cute summer dresses for the girls! Thank you Julie :)

I've been enjoying this song and even the baby is nodding her head to it:

I need to stop getting distracted from today's aim... to finish my bee blocks!

happy dancing

05 February 2014

There's been some happy dancing going on, partly because I've done a little productive sewing on projects I REALLY love and some secret sewing but here's what I can show you...

First up I have finally got the binding sewn on my feather quilt so just an epic amount of hand stitching it down and then I'll be able to show you the finish. I can tell you that the fusible wadding was amazing and I will definitely order more - it was still stuck while I sewed the binding and it's been through a lot since I have hand quilted it, constantly thrown it around and dragged it about! I can still feel a little stiffness so I will let you know what happens to that when I wash it. I'm madly in love with the Sun Print feathers I'm using for the binding (available here and here):

And after the initial hiccup of tracing the pattern the wrong way I've done some more needle turn applique. Now I will probably gasp in horror when I look at it in the future (you know when I've been doing it for the next thirty years) but for a first try I'm pretty happy with it and I had a lot of curves to do with those first pink/purple flowers. I am so thrilled I found Jan Patek's tutorials on YouTube, she explains things really well and is so entertaining - I've watched some of them a few times!

So a bit more to do on this one and then a couple more applique blocks to add to the butterfly quilt for my eldest daughter. I've had amazing butterfly blocks from my Bee A Brit Stingy mates and I will show you them all together when I get a chance.

Finally I did a happy dance tonight when I placed an order at the Fat Quarter Shop, they've got 30% off international shipping, so hurry and place your order it ends on the 6th. They've also got Bella Solids on sale (precuts, yardage and 108" wide - perfect for backings!) and 20% off the binding tool - one of my favourite notions! No codes required for discounts, they are applied automatically. So go shop and join the happy dancing!

A wonderful world of WIPs

13 November 2013
This is a full on WIP report, I'm pretty sure I've missed some things off but I flew round with my camera trying to get pictures of everything while being followed by a wee bairn.

finished

Giant Chevron Quilt - fabulous pattern by Jess. This is a Christmas gift for a friend so I can cross that off my Making Christmas list.

Embroidered patchwork cushion - gifted to my son's friend

Bee Blocks for Nat in Simply Solids Bee

Stripey Le Challenge make... you'll see the full reveal tomorrow and please link up your finished STRIPE makes for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop! The link party opens tomorrow. I'm really happy with this one!

in progress:

Feather Bee Quilt - I'm still working on hand quilting and absolutely LOVING it! And the cherry on the cake will be this gorgeous Alison Glass feathers fabric I will use for the binding. Fabulous service and lovely wrapping from The Intrepid Thread

Rose Star Quilt - here's all my random pieces I've sewn together so far and two lone rose stars

I have a way to go to get it to the size I want but it's progressing nicely and it's a labour of love

Teeny Liberty EPP - this is pure madness but I've made 3 little flowers and they are so cute! That's the baby's hand for scale ;)

Commissioned quilt - I've picked some lovely girly fabrics out for a simple patchwork quilt (I'm adding this to my Making Christmas list)

Embroidered ABC quilt - all ready to be bound

Rainbow Log Cabin Quilt 2.0 - needs basting so quilting can commence

Star Flower QAL - two rows left to do

Stitchings in progress

Secret project - I've been having fun with this one!

So that's all the things I'm up to!! Not much ;)

Need time to relax too so I picked up the latest copy of Love Patchwork and Quilting, including a fun supplement with pixel patterns by Tula Pink

**Karen is giving away 3 copies of Love Patchwork and Quilting - giveaway closes 19th Nov**

Although most of my reading is generally done with the little one. I'm sure this book used to be mine as a child, it's well loved and she just adores those bears!

I'll try to be brief

22 February 2012
Wishing my husband a very Happy Birthday today :)

I'm trying to stay in a good mood after venting about my hatred of word verification, which you can go read about.

I'm sure the chocolate cake we'll eat later will help!

I'm linking up to Freshly Pieced:

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

I was mad busy finishing my anniversary quilt last week and didn't link up at all. My Weigh in Wednesday post is over at Missy Mac Creations this week (go check it out if you're the nosy type) so this one's mostly fabric and sewing.

 - Stained QAL - must get to cutting!! keep meaning to and then get distracted. urgh!

stats
completed: 1
new projects: 1
in progress: 3

Next up I got some scrummy fabric goodness sent to me recently - the first is the utterly gorgeous charms from the rainbow charm swap organised by the wonderful Emily at Strawberry Patch:

I'm using Emily's picture because she's better than me!

And then the beautiful fat quarter bundle from The Intrepid Thread that I won from the lovely Adrianne at Little Bluebell who put this bundle together:

It's even prettier in real life so thank you Adrianne!

Finally I was chuffed to receive the Liebster blog award this week from two people! The lovely M-R at Quilt Matters and Michele at Quilts From My Crayon Box, thank you ladies!

This award is given to favorite blogs with under 200 followers. The Liebster Rules are:
1. Post about your win on your blog.
2. Link back to the blogger who presented you with the award.
3. Copy and paste the award to your blog.
4. Present the Liebster Award to 5 blogs that have less than 200 followers that you think deserve to be recognized.
5. Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.

I'm going to award this to blogs I love, it's not law that they need to participate in the award but you might want to go check them out because they're good!! I really admire and enjoy these blogs, they always give me inspiration and make me smile:

Rebecca at Making Rebecca Lynne
Becky at The Barefoot Seamstress
Heather at Crafting...
Janine at Rainbow Hare Quilts
Steph at Hope Sewing is Genetic

It was tough choosing, there's so many great blogs out there! Better get back to catching up on reading them!

Oh and I did think about including selfsewn in this award, since she has a new blog but it seemed like cheating since she had 400 odd before ;) You should check it out, she organised the Rose Star Block Party and the tutorial can be found there!

fabric on my mind

12 February 2012
This blog has become more about fabric and less about me actually doing any sewing, just to prove a point here's another post about fabric...

I had a delivery, some yummies from Hawthorne Threads:

I know, YUM!!
These are my favourites and I am seriously crushing on them!!

I also woke up to a lovely email yesterday from Adrianne at Little Bluebell to say I'd won a FQ bundle from The Intrepid Thread! This is such a pretty bundle that Adrianne put together when shopping for her Peaceful Pagoda quilt. She posted about her process and I commented that I loved her choices at the time so I am so thrilled to have won! Thank you so much to Adrianne (for having great taste!) and Julie for the giveaway :)

If you're loving it too you can buy your own Peaceful Pagoda bundle here!
It really is good fortune since I had a giveaway of two charm packs of Kate Spain's 'Good Fortune' and didn't have any of my own! :) The bundle includes other lines too, check the link above to see the list in more detail.

If you're hating me a little bit please don't, why not do some winning of your own by entering the giveaways still open at the Fugly Fabric Party?!!

There's a few fashionably late links so go check it out - there's currently 67 links! :)

Charm About You

Remember tomorrow is the last day to link up your own fugly fabric posts before the party closes, click the button above to read all about it!

The winner of the Pezzy charm pack will be chosen on Tuesday.

I have been hard at work on the blocks for my secret quilt and was worried I wouldn't be making too much progress because it's half term here so I have 2 little ones under my feet for the next week, that means no nap time sewing!! - Honestly I'm glad to have them both around really, I miss the boy when he's at school!

Tomorrow, however, I have some boring stuff to do and my very kind and wonderful mother and step father have volunteered to have them both for the whole afternoon so I get a little me time too! I am SO grateful!

Once the jobs are done I should have about 2 or 3 hours free sewing time - yippee!! Hopefully I'll have something to show for myself! How much do you think I can get done??
