checking it twice, and then again because I've still got lots to do... nothing is even wrapped yet!! Thursday is usually my day of random but this post is a little all over the place so today will be random too! I have been spending a lot of time just thinking, possibly the upcoming new year is making me reassess and prioritise. I'm questioning myself a lot and trying to get more in touch with what makes me happy and the direction I would like to go with my sewing. Anyway I will share my thoughts with you when I'm ready. For now here's what I've been up to...
First up I chose this Herringbone block for my turn as queen in the Simply Solids Amaranth group. I picked it after making one in prints for Erin in the Bee A Brit Stingy bee. I followed her lead and am asking my bee not to sew them together. That way I can decide on the final layout. I will be making this quilt for charity. I'm hoping for lots of bright colours!
I've finished sewing all the rows on my star flower quilt, just need to sew them together and do the borders. Definitely planning on hand quilting this, it's just so pretty!
Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings to you all!

I finished up my step mum's present, this pretty yoga bag. I used Amy Butler's brilliant free pattern.
It was simple to follow and cleverly by near total fluke the fabric on the pockets lined up perfectly:
I also managed to finish a superhero cape for my friend's son. I love these, my kids still enjoy the ones I made them. It's easy to personalise and though I have used the free pattern, the full PDF makes things easier and there's lots of great applique symbols. You can buy the pattern here at Georgia Leigh's Etsy shop, ages 2-7 or 8-11.

I'm hoping to get the family jumper reindeer appliques done, I've had a little helper do some tracing for me!
Randomly I was looking at my sister's wedding pictures from this summer and I don't think I ever shared pics of me in the dress I love most in the world (other than my wedding dress). I can't make the pics larger because I become pixelated but hopefully you can see how pretty it is. So retro. It has lovely bling on the cuffs and my sister got me and her bridesmaid a gorgeous brooch that just finished it off perfectly.
And here's the weirdest shot, it's like I have an earpiece or something?!
I also wanted to show you the most beautiful picture of my youngest daughter that was taken by my husband... so adorable
Finally I am hoping that santa will stop spamming blogs since he has a job to do!
Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings to you all!
It is very nearly Christmas at our house!

It's official... we bought a tree! Just waiting on the local shop to deliver it (which they do for free, got to love that) then we can decorate. Good job I have made a start on some decorations this week.
completed
- Festive garland - I made this after seeing the tutorial at Ellison Lane Quilts by Adrianne of Little Bluebell. With no die cut machine I had to hand cut the circles and in my haste may have folded the felt over a couple of times so I could cut more than once circle at a time - they're not perfect but in the grand scheme of things I think it'll still look pretty. It's hard to see in the picture but the thread is metallic so it has a cool sheen to it, which will look nice with the tree lights.
As recommended by Adrianne, I have wrapped the garland around some cardboard so it stays neat until I use it.
- Kids 'Good' reward chart
in progress:
- English Paper Piecing, my first hexies (I have been doing Rose Stars for a while but that was my initial try at epp and I've never done normal hexies before). I had planned to make placemats with these but, to be totally honest, I'm not sure we're that organised or formal in this house and I don't think they'd get much use. Much better to recover a cushion I don't like instead!
- A new quilt. Perhaps not the best time to start working on a new quilt but I couldn't help myself. I've had the fabric for this one since before I started blogging (I started quilting about a month before I blogged) but now I have a great reason to finally make it. Unfortunately I am keeping this under wraps and it's part of a bigger plan. I can share it some time next year but may show sneak peeks before then if I can't contain myself! For now I'll call it the May quilt.
no progress:
- Rose Stars
- HFWYG? QAL
- Blogger's BOM
- Braid Quilt
- granny blanket

Is it just me or does anyone else have sore eyes and tired fingers from entering all the giveaways over at SewMamaSew?!
I thought I would quickly show you a little finish. I used this great tutorial by Pinwheel Ponders to make some cute paper pieced Santa decorations:
Adorable huh?! I didn't have any little bells or pom poms (clearly I need more varied supplies!) so I used some wooden beads at the end of the hat and embroidered the eyes and nose.
Another bee block feather in the post. This lovely one is from Christiane, who also sent the cutest notecard with measuring tape!! It's now on my noticeboard, love it:
She was kind enough to include some lovely scraps, some of the backing fabric she used and a super cute decoration. Thank you so much Christiane!
Now a bit off the sewing topic...
We've had the builders round. They repointed the brickwork at the front of the house and then they came inside to work on the fireplace.
Try to ignore the cuteness that is my son (when he was one - nearly 4 years ago!) and look at that 'modern' fireplace on the left.
It was there when we moved in and despite some visitors saying they like it, we don't! It actually broke recently anyway, which was a good excuse to get a radiator fitted in the living room, hence no need for the fire!
It was also a hazard, those imitation rocks (???) always seemed to fall down and we had to get that vile fire guard to protect the kids...
...which is currently being used to prevent them from trying to get up the chimney to see if Santa is coming! We decided to have the fire taken out and the fireplace opened up.
What you see is the original lintel and gentle arch that was built in the 1930s. Sadly the bricks are not in the best state (they often reused bricks at that time) so it will all be plastered over but we get to keep that lovely organic shape. The hearth will be tiled and then we can move that table and the TV into that space. We have some shelving to go next to the chimney breast so hopefully we can get some toys off the floor!
I also just have to tell you how much I have been loving the smell of soot - I think it's a weird pregnancy thing because I can't get enough. I don't want to eat it mind, I just love smelling the bricks!
The plasterer and joiner are due to come later this week so I might have a finish to show you soon!
