I can change my world with colour
04 September 2015
I created an embroidery a little while ago and used the design to create a colourful patchwork hoop which is featured in Issue 14 of Quilt Now this month (and on the cover!! yippee!).
It is really fun to mix embroidery and quilting since I love them both! I enjoyed playing with my scraps and laying out what would become the log cabin. Often times I use my floor as a design board and this helped me visualise how it would ultimately look:
Hoops are easy ways to brighten up your space or to give as little gifts and this one works as a nice reminder for when you are creating.
I epically failed to take a picture of the finished hoop myself but you can see it here (shamelessly nicked from the Quilt Now website!)

I originally used the embroidery pattern in another project, some of you may remember the nail polish manicure bag I made adapted from the free Fat Quarter Shop Nail Polish Pattern:
Well here is the other side of that bag!
It works so nicely in that context :)
It could be used for a make up bag or artists case too. You can get the pattern and instructions for making the hoop version in this months Quilt Now! It will also be available at Pink Castle Fabrics if you want to add it to your basket ;)
Should you stitch this up and use it in any of your projects please do let me know, I would love to see!
** US peeps feel free to drop the 'u'! When tracing the pattern just move the word color slightly to the right to keep the pattern centred.

working on it
29 October 2014
I feel like I'm working on a lot of stuff right now, not just quilty or sewing projects but my life and myself. Paying attention to what I want to do and what I need. Going through hard times and determined not to let them get the better of me - literally. Trying to not even make the most of things but make the best. I'm a work in progress too.
Anyway no time for philosophy, there's crafty work to be done and my mojo is gaining momentum. Here's what I've been up to...
I was very excited to see my Hanging Triangles Bag in Quilt Now (Issue 4) - this is my first published project and seeing myself in a magazine was all kinds of funny!! If anyone makes one I would absolutely love to see it!
This is the same as the buggy bag I made a while ago, and we use it everyday!
I totally have a thing for zip bags (or maybe quick finishes?!) because I knocked up a couple more using a couple of mini charm packs. One is Caroline Friendlander's Favorites, mixed with a little Best Day Ever by April Rosenthal, and this is already stuffed full of my stuff :)
I did simple straight line quilting because it just looks so clean and pretty
I used the rest of the Best Day Ever mini charms to make another little bag, fun and girly:
I've been cracking on with my le challenge project, obviously I chose cross stitch for the X theme...
but sadly it hasn't all gone well and, despite me usually recognising mistakes quickly or being able to fudge them, this time there was serious unpicking required:
I will press on though and hopefully get it finished in time for the le challenge link on November 15th. Oh and you must go and read the guest post by Mr X Stitch, very interesting read and it totally motivated me!
I treated myself to some cute little bow earrings this week, from BK & JIO. Quick delivery and super sweet packaging. If you're looking for gifts, they have a gorgeous selection - perfect for all ages and you can get 15% off orders over $20 until 14th November using code HOLIDAY2014. (Not sponsored in any way just sharing the joy because I love the earrings I bought!)
And finally, since it's the half term holidays here, most of my time is being spent doing stuff like this:
Fun and games!
mixing my interests - le challenge
14 October 2014
Since I've developed a stationery addiction along with my sewing addiction I thought it appropriate to 'mix' my two loves and create a home for my pens, washi tape, notes and stickers for this months le challenge.
I totally fell for the 'Fly the Flag' quilt by Katy Jones in Issue 2 of Quilt Now magazine. I love that they look like sticky page flags, so I resized them and used some of my favourite Moonlit by Rashida Colman-Hale, Cotton and Steel prints to make little flags and a cute banner.
The background is the most gorgeous mint fabric that I picked up on a trip to Abakhan, I wish I knew what it was!
So now my stationery has a pretty place to live and I can happily decorate my organiser and get my 'to sew' list under control ;)
We would love you to come and join in the link party over at le challenge, it stays open until 8pm BST on 16th October and you can link up any finished project that fits the theme 'MIX', so long as it has been made in the last month.
One random winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!
And if you're not already then head over to the le challenge blog, check out the other links and start following us, we have some awesome themes lined up!!
Pink Castle Fabrics
15 July 2014
I like having variety in my stash, I love colour and I'm generally drawn to bright and bold prints. I adore Japanese fabrics, modern geometric prints and a good mix of low volume. Happily you can find all of these at Pink Castle Fabrics. I have built up a nice stash, in large part due to being in the Stash Stack Club for a year. I am thrilled to welcome Pink Castle Fabrics as a sponsor of Charm About You.
I have always received wonderful service and fast shipping from Pink Castle Fabrics and fabric I've purchased from them has made its way into many of my projects.
Like this happy bag I made in 2012 using a gorgeous metallic Kokka print for the sewing machine:
More recently I made my favourite oven gloves with a fun kawaii print, dots and checks:
And I used some of my Stash Stack Club fat quarters for my Tiny Dancer quilt:
Pink Castle Fabrics now has a few monthly clubs, you can see them all here. It's a great way to get some variety, whether you're looking for prints or solids and it's fun seeing what great bundles they've curated each month. I am especially excited by the Cotton + Steel Club!
You can also get Quilt Now magazine, I've already got the first issue and it's fabulous. You will want to make so many projects after reading it! They ship worldwide but I definitely recommend those of you in the US and Canada to get a Quilt Now subscription from Pink Castle Fabrics.
At Pink Castle Fabrics you can enjoy browsing through gorgeous fabric collections; they have yardage, pre cuts and amazing bundles. They also have a great sale section.
I suggest you have a shopping trip at Pink Castle Fabrics because right now for every $50 you spend you will receive a Golden Ticket, every one is a winner and the Grand Prize is 144 fat quarters! See this post for all the details.
Happy shopping!
