a pair of foxy brooches
Last night I whipped up this pair of cute fox brooches
The free kit came with Issue 32 of Mollie Makes.
These will be gifts for teachers.

Oh and I was in the city centre this afternoon so, of course, I popped into Abakhan - I had no spare cash to buy anything but in the quilting fabric section I spotted this gorgeous Tula Pink fabric for £5.75 a metre!
There's lots of other gorgeous fabrics and I have my eye on some cute Russian doll cotton. If you're near to Manchester I suggest you head to Abakhan and grab some fabric!

giving free gifts {a craft-a-long}
When the latest issue of Mollie Makes dropped through my door I had an epiphany. The free kit with Issue 34 is an adorable 70s style doll and they suggested it would be a great stocking filler... well yes... it would! My eldest daughter would love it. And that got me thinking, I know I've got more of those kind of things lying around. Turns out I've got thirteen of those free kits from different craft magazines. Thirteen?! I seem to have developed a magazine addiction along with the fabric one.
What a waste to have those supplies lying around while I'm trying to think up gifts to make for teachers. If I have time I'd love to also make little fabric baskets to put them in but if not they'd be just as cute tied up to a bar of chocolate! Some of them would be ideal for this and some others my kids would love to have at Christmas.
So in the spirit of using what you have and creating some extra little gifts would you like to join me? If you have any of those free kits now is the perfect time to make them up!

Blondedesign has more fun!
I am pleased to welcome Blondedesign as a new sponsor, Karen's shop is full of gorgeous goodies and I'm a huge fan of her beautiful binding. While I was pregnant I stitched this sewing case and used a gorgeous orange gingham bias binding. Blondedesign-a stitch in time was started by myself Karen Gamble. Dare I say I'm an Essex Gal. For as long as I can remember, in my spare time, I quilt and sew. I had my first sewing machine from Santa at about 10 years old. My father was a tailor and my grandfather made bags from off cuts of Ford seat fabrics - recycling in the 60's! It’s in the blood!
I specialise in basics and stash builders - building blocks we all need! Growing every week with new fabrics coming in. I love to shop by colour, so that is my next move on menu systems. Who doesn't love a rainbow quilt?! I shall be changing my website in the next few weeks with renewed focus on solid, textured, and patterned 100% cotton quilting weight fabrics.
bundles and mini charms
I have a terrible love for bias bindings, a bit of a passion of mine! Over 200 and still growing, sourced from Europe. Yes I know we can all make our own, as well as the quilts, but these save you time, money and heartache! Put it this way, I love to use them and only buy them if I do. Perfect for quilt edging, skirts, tea cosy, even lace edge ones, all those things that need an oomph and detailing.
Watch this space as more buttons should be arriving in the next week. More sizes, more choice, bags of buttons and well, just buttons!

For example: This month a snowball quilt, throw size. The fabrics for the cover front would cost you £70.00 or more alone but I'm offering £60.00 - 15 x FQ and 1.75 m White, all Moda fabrics to make it but still a bargain even if you just stick the fabrics in your stash!

I have also caught up on my Woodland Sampler - I actually thought I'd finished August but I missed a mushroom.

I also had these goodies drop through my door. I love stationary and really needed to have some birthday cards handy for the kids birthday parties that mine are invited to because I'm never organised. I got this lovely lot at asking for trouble - quite honestly I'd buy it all if I could, gotta love those cute kawaii characters!
Speaking of characters I've been stuffing this little dog, which was a free gift with Mollie Makes, with all my hst trimmings. It gives it a nice weight and Joan is smitten!

The Amazings are having a fabulous competition, open worldwide. The new class, featuring Gilda (an Amazing) and Lara (editor for Mollie Makes), is Machine Embroider a Textile Necklace and if you take the class you can enter to win a sewing machine worth up to £300/$450!

The techniques used in the class were totally new to me so I was excited to see how the necklace was created. Gilda really explains each step thoroughly and Lara asks questions that beginners might have so they cover all the ground. The conversations make it feel even more like being part of a class and are peppered with great tips and Gilda's wisdom.
Of course there are supplies that you need to make it but, other than the soluble cloth, most of the things you need you probably already have (if you sew) or can buy cheaply and they offer alternatives so it can be done without purchasing a lot of expensive items.
It is such a playful technique, just like colouring in. You can easily correct mistakes and I like the fast and furious pace you can use once you've got the hang of it, my kind of sewing! I love how all those zigs and zags and whimsical stitches make such pretty and delicate looking embroidery.
Despite knowing the soluble fabric would dissolve it was still exciting to watch the finished elements emerge, putting it together was simple and the final result is a really unique and beautiful necklace. I don't usually wear necklaces but I really want to try this out and it could easily turn into a headband instead. I genuinely felt inspired watching the class and enjoyed seeing more of Gilda's detailed work and how she uses machine embroidery. There are lots of other possibilities and uses for this technique so it is well worth watching and the sewing machine competition is an amazing added bonus!

or maybe 1/8 of the way done. I don't mind that I've still got a long way to go though because don't these look so pretty? I still have more that I've already made but I may go back to making individual rose stars soon.
Today I feel like I'm doing nothing right. Baby blues maybe? I have a creeping anxiety too that I'm trying to keep under control (I've had PND before and part of the anxiety is not wanting it again I'm sure). Just dealing with one thing at a time - which isn't always easy with a baby and two kidlets! Hoping for maybe an hour of peace later to read Mollie Makes, sew or maybe just stare into space doing nothing!
