The latest pattern by Fat Quarter Shop and It's Sew Emma is the gorgeous, vintage-inspired Star Crossed and I'm sharing my progress for the Blog Hop.
I have decided to go with a monochrome version. It's not something I have ever done before and I thought it would suit the star pattern - like gleaming stars in the night sky. I also wanted to keep it modern. Those that follow me know I adore vintage (patterns and fabric) but I am working on a couple of other quilts with vintage fabrics so I needed a change. Cue some Cotton + Steel and Doe to make my Star Crossed Night Sky quilt:
Here's my first block finished and I have to say I love it even more than I thought I would!!
The centre fabric is Shibuya in Linen, Tokyo Train Ride by Sarah Watts; the parallelograms are Lined Grids in White, Doe by Carolyn Friendlander and the background is Petite Plus, Black & White by Cotton + Steel.
The Petite Plus fabric really makes the star pop and the white Doe print makes it look like a shining star. I'm excited to get this one finished!
It's Sew Emma patterns are always so well written and easy to follow. The Star Crossed pattern gives you the sizes to make a Lap, Twin, Queen or King size. It also has the requirements for one block so you could easily make a quilt to suit any size and even make coordinating cushions or other accessories from just one block.
You can get the Star Crossed pattern here or get an instant download PDF version here.

I really like your choice of prints, Lucy! The star really does seem to be glowing! :) I would probably succumb to using some Alison Glass Mercury for this design, personally.
I like this block! Are you going to complete it into a quilt? I have some great orange fabric--not sure of the designer--that I want to use so I might try that. kthurn@bektel.com
Your block turned out beautiful and sophisticated! I love the neutral colors and I hope it (magically) turns into a quilt someday!
Oh great use of twinkle fabric! Perfection!
I think that's perfect fabric for your block. Very like the sky on a really clear night :)
Wouldn't this make a great quilt out of one huge block?
Excellant choice of fabric.
Good Question, I was thinking about some 30's repro would really be good for this one. I love those reproductions. Great quilt!
love your block - using those fabrics will make a fabulous quilt !
I like the dark background the best. Great looking quilt!
I would do a red star and a white and blue patriotic print.
I like your monochrome version!

Bizarrely, I was admiring a pouf in a shop window the other morning (I shall take a photo and show it to you) which I thought would be wonderful inspiration for a black and white sampler quilt!! Great minds and all that :)
Scrappy is my style . I would make a scrappy version
It would have to be blue-any color blue, I like them all. I like that black print you used and with a turquoise blue print it would just pop!
I love your choice of fabrics Lucy, particularly the white sparkles!
The prints and colors you chose will really make this a striking quilt...love i!
Those fabrics are so perfect for this block! It really looks like it's floating in space!
Oh gosh that is a very effective colour combo - it will look amazing on a full quilt!
Gorgeous block! I've just ordered some of that black fabric so it's nice to see it in use and looking lovely!
