We had a really nice time this past weekend and went into town to visit the Manchester Art Gallery. They have a beautiful exhibition called Cotton Couture, which features designer dresses and suits commissioned by the Manchester-based Cotton Board to promote the use of cotton in fashion during the 1950s. Some of the outfits took my breath away. It was so fascinating to see pieces of history created by British and Parisian couturiers using simple cotton. If you are able I recommend going to see it!
There is also a fabulous area for the kids to be creative, the Clore Art Studio:
All those shapes on the wall can be moved and hung on the hooks, I could do that for hours. They also had fun big blocks under a projection light that kept changing pattern and a colouring table with an inspiration board, which also focused on pattern - I loved that too!!
I love living in Manchester and it's so wonderful that we have such amazing galleries and museums that are free and child friendly. Do you visit galleries or exhibitions where you live?
I planned out a project this week, I quite often do that on my floor:
I'm a natural optimist, I practice gratitude and appreciate those small details that make life wonderful. I have also, however, had depression (twice) so I do work hard to keep positive. I saw this on instagram and it made me laugh:
On the same note the kids and I have been really enjoying this song (Lois does the best little version, I will try to video it if I can!) - watch both versions if you need something to make you smile! My kids giggled through both and want to watch them over and over!

Took my 2 and a half year old grandaughter to the Manchester Science Museum a couple of weeks ago. She loved it and wanted to try everything. She particularly liked turning the wheel to lift the mini in the air and blowing an enormous soap bubble. I love science!
I choose not to be a miserable cow ; )
Glad you are healing up
I absolutely visit our local galleries and exhibitions! There was even a small design exhibition from the the V&A at the State Library of Melbourne that I visited last week! Inspiration everywhere....
That exhibition looks right up my street. I too am lucky that I live so close to Oxford. Although I say I'll go to the museums and galleries far more often that I actually do. Yes, had to laugh at that instagram sign. The gratitude thing simply works. But of course not being a miserable cow helps too :-))))
Thanks for sharing the videos. I enjoyed them.
Saw the cotton exhibition when I was over in March - loved it and that's my fave museum in Manchester and my second fave is the Whitworth. I promise today I wasn't a miserable cow once; it made me laugh - Chris :D
must be brilliant to live in such a vibrant city, Belfast isn't bad but hasn't the variety of somewhere bigger like Manchester. I'm now humming, put on a happy face!
Loved this post - so interesting and varied
Sewing friends are wonderful! I don't have any here in the small town where I live, so I connect virtually with quilters through my blog and Instagram. It's great to have so many like-minded friends, even if I've never actually met any of them!
