**GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED**
I am nearing the end of English Paper Piecing my Rose Star quilt and that means it's time to start a new hand sewing project. I have been stashing away fabric for a special project for some time and will be using it to make Jen Kingwell's Green Tea and Sweet Beans pattern.
It began with some vintage prints my cousin (love you Jackie!) gave me and then I discovered 1930's reproduction prints, which I adore. I picked up some modern prints that I think work with that style and create more interest. I ended up with a rainbow of colours.
Once I knew I would be making that pattern I got some blender / neutral fabrics too.
The colours and styles feel very 'me', eclectic and happy. There's definitely other themes here too; florals, spots, checks, geometric shapes and a lot of small prints.
I'm making a start, I've chosen my fabrics and am ready to sew.
The Fat Quarter Shop are kindly offering a $50 gift certificate for me to give away so you can choose some fabric of your own!

I follow your blog via BL.
I'm currently collecting lots of bunny prints, so they're what I'm keeping my eye out for!

I look for the theme "text" and "low volume" a lot!
I follow you on bloglovin, but still have you on my blogger too, so that is where I saw this when I was going to go make a blog post.
When I look for new fabric I am drawn to the colors first. From there I dwindle options down to design and whether or not the line includes colors I don't like. I always buy my fabric by the line because I am horrid at mixing and matching fabrics. I like mine already matched up.
I love novelties. The sillier the better. Corn dogs or Star Trek or aliens driving VW mini buses. YES! I need to slow down with them and get some more blenders and solids.

I tend tobuy with future projects in mind, so I buy around various themes. When im looking for blenders I tend to like geometric prints.
It will depend if I am only fabric shopping without a project in mind, then I buy fabrics depending on colors, buy also just tiny flowers, or maybe only dots, whatever size or colour...

I've not been fabric shopping for 6 months! When I do go browsing it's generally directed by what I'm sewing or planning to sew, so recently I've been looking at spots and dots (but not buying any!)
Do you know Missouri Mel? some one beat me to putting the giveaway on her weekly linky, but you might like her for her 30's fabric swaps, I did pin it, http://www.pinterest.com/pin/271130840041969793/
and I google + but not sure how to show you that. Have fun working on your new hand project.
I follow you via feedly - thanks for a superb giveaway
I don't have any theme in mind, so I just buy prints that make me happy:) your stash is so pretty!

Gosh, that's an awesome giveaway. I am in search of bears and moose for my OH at the moment but I struggle to pass up teeny animal prints like the ones Timeless Treasures do, and I'm a huge Basic Grey fan.

I haven't really thought of choosing fabric by theme - I usually choose by colour or by designer. love the fabrics you have pulled for your next hand pieced project. I am trying to think of a hand worked project to do as well - not quite up to Green Tea and Sweet Beans just yet though!

Lucy it depends who I am sewing for. If I am sewing for my granddaughter then I look for girlie themes
I cannot resist flowers... So my stash does have some pretty flowers which do not match a thing. ;) Thanks for the giveaway!
And I'm already a follower of your blog, using Feedly.
I'm not drawn to a particular theme, but I am attracted to softer colors, old fashioned prints, etc, and stay away fro real brights or geometrics. Thanks for a chance to win!

I honestly can't say that I choose fabric by theme but quite it depends on who I am making a quilt for and the pattern of the quilt that helps me decide on fabric colours, textures, and designs. Thank you for this most generous giveaway!!

Right now my Theme is 30's and Civil War ( I love your 30s choices! mixed with the more modern!) My bff was doing civil war and then she gifted me some 30s and I fell in love with those. Otherwise I usually choose by colors! thanks!
I look for a print with multiple colours, that I really like. Then I find fabrics to go with it. And, usually pick up a few more that will go with previous purchases.
I follow you blog as a few follow w/ GFC. Thank you for another chance!!
I love Christmas, floral and blender fabrics. I also buy when I am starting a project, rather than picking up everything I love the print of. I have learned that not every print I love will work together, so I can match fabrics easier when I am shopping for a particular project.
I follow you by Bloglovin.
I choose by colour, whatever pattern, but it's got to be the right tone I'm looking for. Favourite designers at the moment are Bonnie and Camille.

Hmm, good question! Right now I am obsessing about starting Gypsy Wide, Gypsy Kisses, and GTSB. I have been obsessing about where to start with the fabric collection. I love scrap quilts but don't want every quilt to look the same. I guess the best answer is that I like things to be happy and scrappy.

Ohhhh - I love your fabric choices for this next quilt. I can't wait to see the finished project. I really like bird themes, and birds of all kinds seem to find their way into my quilts. Thanks for this giveaway and for your inspiring blog. I love your Retro Flowers and Dancing Matryoshka quilts!
I've been following your blog via Bloglovin. Thanks for everything that you share!

Beautiful choices! I try to go for fabric that adds to my stash in a useful way, filling gaps. Most of the time I buy with specific items in kind.
Themes I am attracted to include specific colours, florals, children's, dots and stripes

*in mind. I follow you on Feedly.
When buying fabric for a project, I am either trying to work with a customer's desires or I am inspired by something. Lately my inspiration has been color based, but sometimes it can be sparked by a fabric that I want to coordinate with.
How I select fabric is usually a bit random and ridiculous (in my opinion). The only element I am actively looking for is fabric with Dahlia flowers incorporated, it is my oldest daughters name and I plan to use them on a quilt for her. Otherwise I just look through the fabric until something catches my eye.

I don't tend to shop by theme with one big exception. I do a lot of nautical quilts so when I see a good nautical fabric I do tend to pick that up. Usually I shop by color inspiration!
I follow with bloglovin
I begin with happy fabrics! Bonnie & Camille fabrics are usually first followed by Lori Holt's lines. If I'm mellow it's Fig Tree. Every once in a while I go for themes, like for the Very Cherry Wap or grandson's love of cars/motorcycles.
I follow with Instagram & will share there as well.
Oops, didn't separate the comments...I will share on Instagram as well.
Choosing fabric kind of changes based on my mood! I LOVE 30s repros AND have this quilt on my to-do list, so I'm really excited to follow your progress. I'm almost done with a large hand-sewing project and might start this one next - hopefully your photos will help push me to get it done so I can start this one :)
In general, I like fabrics that have a lot of contrast but still "match" - like Anna Maria Horner fabrics. I love to make rainbow quilts, but I also love to use just two or three colors (in various shades/tones) that are contrasting on the color wheel. Hah basically I love sewing because there are so many possibilities of colors and fabrics... it's just such a beautiful hobby!
I find it hard to use large scale prints, so usually avoid them. But otherwise any fabric can tempt me!

And I follow you on bloglovin and IG - thanks for this chance, I'm on a fabric diet (NO stashing allowed, trying to use what I have!) so I would be SO happy to win this because it would mean I could buy some fabric! :)

Themes huh? I love cotton & steel basics and want to collect all the ones with the plus signs on them!
I have such varied taste in fabric it's hard to narrow it down. This time of year I'm looking for Halloween and Christmas fabric by my eye always goes to geometrics first followed by Civil War and then delicate fabric prints like those that Tanya Whelan designs.

I'm all over the place when it comes to selecting fabrics. If I've finished a project with flowers then the next time I'm looking for cowboy fabric - if I've just worked with brights then I'm looking for pastels. I love it all and want it all!
I follow with bloglovin - and I have you on my the home page of my blog.

With 8 grandkids all under 6 and another being planned, my themes have been decided for me, I am excited to sew for myself and I love the shabby chic, but also I love the ocean 1970's theme, I grew up on the beach.. Love grandma's roses too, it pulls me back to my childhood. I sew according to a feeling.

I think it really depends on the project, but I tend to pay closer attention to the children's lines. I have twin toddlers (boys), so naturally I'm always on the lookout for something they might like. Not to mention the fact that baby quilts are so fun to make!

Color combinations are generally what catch my eye . . . my tastes are so eclectic it's hard to narrow it down to just one or two things! I do like texture and I like 'bling' in my fabric! Haha! :)

When I'm shopping I usually go for smaller prints that are colourful. Usually just tone on tone or a few colours but not usually big patterns.
I go for colours that I love (green, navy, teal, aqua, red and grey) and go from there. I love graphic prints but I do love a floral or two!!! I love your taste in fabric :)
I am a follower through GFC - awesome giveaway xx

Lately, I'm trying to build basics. Your stash building skills are impressive.
I like nature themes like leaves and birds, but not so much flowers unless they are modern looking. I like silly things on novelty prints -- that old RK Metro Cafe print with the toast and toasters is one of my favorites. I love basics like polka dots and swirls and geometric prints. And color is at least as important as the print -- love bright, clear colors.

OOH Awesome Giveaway, thank you for the chance to win. My fabric buying these days is influenced by current projects and what fabrics theme or colour I need for them, I then fill up the envelope with classics like spots or pretty blender type fabrics.

Awesome, Lucy! I can be attracted to colour themes, brights, or pastels, or to certain styles of design, at times.
When I pick colors its because they call to me? hum that sounds funny. I like bright and bold not to girly (I am a guy after all) though I do love purples.
