I am so proud of this quilt. I sleep under it every night and it makes me smile every morning.
This quilt is made up of blocks from two Bees that I was in, the first request for blocks was back in October 2012 and then I asked my other Bee group to make me more in January 2013 - the month my third child was born! So it took me some time before I had the blocks all pieced together, more time to piece the back and then quite a long time to hand quilt it. In February this year though I finally finished it and I've taken some more photos because it's far sunnier than it was in winter!
The fabrics are a fabulous mix of bright patterns and colours and the backgrounds are various low volume or subtle colour fabrics. The back is made up of an eclectic mix of fabrics from my stash cut into 5" wide strips and constructed in the same way as a jelly roll race quilt. I basted it with the easy to use Hobbs Heirloom Fusible wadding.
Massive thanks to my wonderful Bee mates that helped this quilt come to be :)
Finished Size: 85 x 100"
Pattern: Feather Bed Quilt by Anna Maria Horner, pieced in my own layout based on the number of blocks I had.
Blocks: Scrappy? Sew Bee It!, Bee A Brit Stingy and me.
Pieced and Hand Quilted by me.

What a gorgeous scrappy happy quilt! Love it.
I love this quilt so much that I would have a go, if I wasn't so lazy. Every time I look at it I smile and think of small children doing a red Indian war dance. Sorry.
That quilt is just beautiful, Lucy! And I love the hand quilting.
so happy to have had a tiny hand in this gorgeous quilt!
Love this quilt it's so pretty. I always think I'll try and spot my feather. But all I can remember is it was feather shaped lol
This is such a gorgeous quilt!! It really draws you in to look at the different feathers and even the how the background shades work with each other. I love the random placement of your feathers too.
Such a cool quilt!
beautiful!
Congratulations on a beautiful, finished quilt.......that turnaround time is not bad at all for a hand-quilted quilt, especially with the birth of a baby thrown into the timeline !
Hand-quilting through all the extra seams of the backing must have been tedious, but so worth it. I'd have to display the back side half of the time !
Completely gorgeous xxx
This is so beautiful! Good luck in the festival :)
This is so beautiful!

This quilt is absolutely wonderful! What a great one to snuggle under every night!
A beautiful quilt, Lucy! I love how the feathers stand out due to the mix of different background low volume fabrics. I want to congratulate you and your Bee mates on a wonderful finish.
Super! So nice that you hand quilted it, and lots of love from all your bee mates makes it extra special.
Lucy, I am so impressed! What a beautiful quilt.
Lucy, such a wonderful quilt! And I'm glad to have been a very small part of it.
This is just stunning. I love seeing all of the different fabrics used in the feathers. xx
What a beautiful quilt.
love the new photos. Such a great quilt :-)
I got all my bee mates to make me feathers too. Love your quilt.
A really beautiful quilt!!
love love love. You did a brilliant job putting it together x
I love the colorful feathers. My dad was a hunter and during pheasant season, he would save the lovely tail feathers of the male pheasants for us kids. Other feathers too have always fascinated me. Their intricacy, the tiny little barbs on each "featherette" of the feather that makes it stay flat and stick together, the little bunch of fluffy down at the base. All of these memories are rolled up into the feather blocks in your quilt. I may have to make this design.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, WONDERFUL!!!!! you must be so proud of your work
Whoohoo, it is finished and is amazing - of course. I would be smiling if I was waking up every morning to see this quilt! You should have entered it for nature!
Such a gorgeous quilt - love the feathers blocks and your handquilting is just beautiful!

A lot of work over a decent amount of time but totally worth it :) I will be voting for this!
Beautiful quilt, and such neat stitches. Well done!
This is so lovely and I love that you hand quilted it. I just gives it a little something extra special. I also really like the different neutral and subtle solids for the feather backgrounds!

Still one of the loveliest quilts I've seen :)
Whaaaaaaat?! This is the greatest quilt ever! I want one! Haha. Congrats, you've done a phenomenal job!

Fabulous in every way!
This one of my favorite in the world! Hope it wins!
Congratulations on the nomination - it is a beautiful quilt :)
Beautiful quilt! Very worth the effort!
Congratulations on winning the hand quilting. So well done.
Congrats on the win!
I've been wanting to make one of these feather quilts from the first time I saw it. I really like your rendition of it and I love how you used bee blocks to get it done. Making them all yourself seems like the feathers would get tedious!
Nice job!!
Woo hoo - you won! Well done Lucy, probably as near as I'll ever get to a win, ha.
Congratulations on winning! Now you can even be more proud of this quilt
and deservedly so!
It is a gorgeous quilt Lucy! congratulations on winning.
Congratulations on winning the hand quilting section. Well done! It's nice that a young person with a modern quilt won this section. It has given a bit of a lift to the image some people have of hand quilters. Congrats.
