This month I decided to use this beautiful Joy Flower by Nani Iro print from Miss Matatabi to make something just for me because the pretty blooms fit the le challenge theme 'Nature'.
Since there have been occasional breaks in the rain and the sun has magically appeared in the sky from time to time I've been thinking about summer hair. I love headbands but my hair is quite thin and they never stay put... until now. Enter wonderful double gauze fabric and some gardening wire.
Double gauze is so light but not slippery so it's perfect for this. I used this tutorial by Eat Sleep Make but I made a couple of adjustments.
I cut my fabric strip 36" x 4.5" so it was narrower. I looped the ends of the wire and secured it with some tape so it wouldn't poke through the fabric.
Once I had sewn the sides together and threaded the wire through, I hand sewed a few stitches through the wire loops to secure them into the end seam. Make sure you only stitch the folded seam and don't push your needle through to the other side or you will see the stitches on the headband, you just want to catch the wire loop so it doesn't slip around. I closed the ends by hand sewing a ladder stitch.
A fun, easy make to brighten up your summer days! I got the giggles while taking bow selfies and this was better than my serious face ;)

Have you finished any makes inspired by nature in the past month? Link up your finished projects before the 16th for a random chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop. Head over to le challenge and see what everyone else has made...
Now in the interests of being honest I have to tell you that I was intending to finish Joan's butterfly quilt top for this month's theme. No joy. I still haven't finished the last appliqué block... I'm so easily distracted!
Here's where I'm up to:
A fair bit more to do. A couple of commissions and a PTA fair might mean this gets ignored for a bit longer but I so love it and can't wait to put the gorgeous butterfly blocks together.
Oh and I've been having a right laugh at some of the comments on my giveaway post. It's also reminded me of some amazing tunes :) Thanks to everyone who has entered and welcome new followers!

How cute are you? Your giggly face is WAY better than your serious face :)
May have to give this a go - haven't found a head band that doesn't poke and feel awful after 10 minutes. This may do the trick!
Great modelling shots missus xxx
My headbands never stay in either! Totally love that floral fabric!
you're so pretty. And the headband is pretty too - I have really fine hair like yours :-)
I will have to try this! I have very thing and very fine hair, plus a weirdly shaped head, so I've never really been able to find headbands that work for me. Thanks for the tip. :)
That's such a clever idea with the gardening wire. Your headband looks wonderful, the fabric you used really is stunning.
love the head band. I have the same problem only different - my hair is fine but I have a heck of a lot of it so headbands never stay on me either. And I am too short for hats, look like a garden gnome!
Very clever! I have the opposite problem: too much hair. Headbands have never been able to keep it in place. Maybe this method would work for thick hair too!
Ah so that's what you were doing! Looks good!
Cool! Putting a wire in would never cross my mind :)
Genius idea, I saw some in New Look today and wondered how easy it would be to make one! Love the faces :-)
so pretty, lucy! headbands usually hurt my big head after a while, but this one might just be what i need to get over that. the wire is genius. and thanks for the tip about the double gauze. i bet it works brilliantly!
Love your giggles selfie and the headband is so clever!
Love the headband - and a great video to go with it!
