I had a drink

I'm stitching the binding down on my improv log cabins quilt, hoping to get this done over the weekend and list it in my shop.

I've also been stitching together the siggy bee blocks for my feather quilt, I have plans for including it in the backing. I've finished making the extra feathers I needed for the quilt top and am excited to put the last column together.

I have managed one little finish, nearly 2 months late but here's my July block for the woodland sampler:

and I've started trying to catch up!

The summer holidays wouldn't be complete without us making some more paper crap, so thanks to a 'Charlie and Lola' and a 'Hello Kitty' magazine we managed to make a Hello Kitty caterpillar! I forgot how much fun paper chains are! She's colouring in the face while I type this post.

It is a wonder I've managed anything because the other night I drank (nearly) the whole bottle of this:

It was so scrumptious. I'm a total lightweight and rarely drink at all but this was a nice treat and I would highly recommend it if you like a sweet drink. Oh the lime!! yum!

ChristaQuilts has been selling fabric online since 2003. When Christa's husband quit his job a few years later to help her full-time, he decided if you can't beat 'em - join 'em! Christa's goal is to inspire quilters to find joy in creating their own quilts by providing an eclectic mix of fresh, modern and fun fabrics, effective tools, and easy-to-follow instructions in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The Fat Quarter Shop was founded in 2003 by Kimberly Jolly. From the very beginning, she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer. As the Fat Quarter Shop's reputation grew, Kimberly decided to make it a full-time operation. Her husband Kevin joined her not long after, and with his help, lots of hard work, and a tireless commitment, the store began to grow. Over the past few years a few more people have joined the staff! As a team, they continue to branch out with the best fabrics, exclusive kits, quilt clubs, BOMs, and more. And they will always be driven by the passion that Kimberly founded the store upon, which is always giving you the best products and service!

The Fat Quarter Shop are giving away a jelly roll of High Street by Lily Ashbury:

Fluffy Sheep Quilting, launched in spring of 2012, is focused on providing fresh, modern fabric for today’s quilter. Take your time and browse the shop. Fluffy Sheep Quilting carries a gorgeous selection of Kona solids, luscious fat quarter bundles, silky Aurifil threads and handmade quilts. Be sure to check back regularly for new arrivals or seasonal sales. Cindy, the energy behind Fluffy Sheep Quilting, started making her own quilts in 2010 and can not seem to stop! where is the love?

We spent a lovely bank holiday weekend in South Wales visiting my Dad and now I need to catch up on what's been going on.

The Fugly Fabric Party is open and I'm hoping to get time to check all the links later on - some of the fabric has already gone! There's still time to link up if you've got any unwanted fabric, or link up with Laura if you have unwanted projects...

Now it's my turn to link up to Laura's Lost The Love link party.

I have four 8.5" pinwheel blocks - made using Windsor Lane by Bunny Hill Designs and Kona Snow. It would be super easy just to sew these together to make a big cushion front or use them in a quilt.

I also have 20 rather random triangles, all Kona. I kept meaning to do something with these but haven't,  so you can have them! The long side of the triangle measures 9" to give you an idea of the size.

I'd prefer just to post these out all together so if you want the lot please leave a comment below and I'll pick a winner at the weekend.
*NOW CLOSED*

Finally, in case you missed it, I did a fun tutorial over at Lily's Quilts making kites for the 'Projects on a Budget' thanks to Abakhan! Check it out :)

binding shorts

My son recently got a huge hole in his jeans, as kids do, and I took the obvious decision to cut them into shorts.

I didn't want to just hem them though, boring! So I took out my scraps of binding and let him chose which one he wanted on his shorts. He picked the orange gingham bias binding - clever boy!
I'm sure this has been done many times but here's my tutorial on how I did it.

Cut the strips of binding (this happened to be all I had left!). I didn't properly measure just ran it round the leg and added a bit extra.

Turn the shorts inside out. Leave a tail of binding (don't start at the short edge because you need to sew the edges of the binding together). Since this was ready made binding I just opened it out and sewed along the crease.

When you get close to where you started sewing stop with enough room to match the ends. I do this by folding back the edges so they butt up against each other and trimming off any extra to leave a rough 1/4" seam.

Sew the ends right sides together along the crease you made. Finger press the seams open.

Go back to where you stopped sewing and carry on sewing all the way around.

Turn the shorts the right way round, pull the binding through and fold over the front of the shorts.

I don't bother pressing or pinning but feel free if you want to. Topstitch along the top edge of the binding to finish. I move my needle over to the left and use my foot as a guide to get a neat line.

Then you have one cool looking kid!
