**** off!

Sorry, I'm getting mad!!! I am not a robot - I've said this a few times I know!

I HATE word verification, abhor it. Truly hate it.

There's no need, Blogger has a great spam filter.

You can switch off anonymous comments or moderate your comments to stop spam!

I have just tried to enter those stupid words three times trying to comment. I've had enough!!

I am bombing people's blogs with requests to turn the thing off.

I know some people don't even realise it's on their blogs so if I ask you can you please, please, please turn it off!!

Lovely Claire wrote a post after I asked her to do exactly that and linked to this post that shows you how to turn it off!!

Please people, I need more time to read and sew!! ;)

***UPDATE***
I got so mad I just made a button - feel free to put it on your blog if your word verification is off :)

If I stop commenting on your blog after this you know why!! Unless of course you don't want me too ;)

Lucy, you crack me up! The word verification deal was annoying before, but now that they've changed it into that ridiculously hard to read crap it is such a pain, isn't it? I think you almost need to be a robot to read some of that nonsense!

Kelsey said...

YES!!! Whatever it just got changed to is impossible to read so how am I ever going to be able to retype that!!

Strawberry Patch said...

Oh I am hanging my head in shame, consider me well and truly ticked off :-(

Archie the wonder dog said...

I'm with you all the way! I found it irritating before but now it's like a cross between an eye test and a typing test!! Good luck with your campaign!

Deborah said...

Count me in as one of those newbies who didn't realize that it was such an easy fix! And please keep commenting. :o)

Katie said...

I agree with you, it's well and true annoying. Thank you for asking people to turn it off, I've sent a few poeple the link to Clare Jain's post. Hopefully word verification will die. And soon!

Noas' Libellule said...

I hope I managed to turn it off because I am starting to be really annoyed with the verification process now - made worse when the Ipad decide that words should be French ones as well.. let me know if you have issues with my blog again, will go to Claire for help otherwise...

Pat said...

They have made it a real pain in the #$@%. I have turned mine off! (I think??) ;)

Popbabe7 said...

Thanks!! I have turned it off on my blog now.

Kelly @ Blue Bird Sews said...

you are right on Lucy- it is ridiculous! Preach it sister ;)

Jan said...

I'm with you. I've blogged about this a couple of times. And now blogger has come up with a 2 word verification, copying wordpress I think. Stupid.

Nicky said...

Preaching to the already converted and have been for some time!

Lucy with you all the way as without my reading glasses I am squinting like fury to read those confounded things!

Claire Jain said...

It's so easy to turn it off, er, following the directions in that post. It's worth double checking if you're not sure! Yay!

Becky @ The Barefoot Seamstress said...

Amen!! I hate those stupid things! And it's easy to fix the spam without turning on word verification!

Krista said...

yeah, I just spent like ten minutes trying to figure out where in blogger to go and turn it off, but I couldn't find it. I'll have to check out that post to see what I'm missing!

sunny said...

I turned mine off last night, and got my first spam today. I'm starting to think Blogger doesn't want us to be blogging. :-(

Krista said...

so funny, i darn near clicked on "old blogger interface" just to see if that would get me anywhere but decided to just come here for help instead. stupid blogger, making things so tricky!

Taryn said...

Thanks for posting this! I am aggravated by them too and didn't even realize that I had it on :D. I had tested it earlier on, but the author of the blog doesn't get the word verification thing. Anyway, mine's off now! Yay!

Sarah said...

Thats it Luce you tell them... lol I hate it too. Have you tried the sound version? I thought that might be easier but no....nightmare!

Kelli said...

Amen, sister!! :o) Mine has been off for forever, and I don't have any problems with spam. I might have to write a post and link back to this one, maybe more people will have it off now. (fingers crossed) xo

Cindy said...

I am so with you! I was OK with one word...back when you could actually read it. This two word job where I can not decipher the letters is just too much. I turned mine off the day it changed to insanity, so come on over and chatter away!

M-R said...

halle -- freaking -- lluia! I've been thinking about doing a post exactly like yours! That thing is driving me crazy. I like to comment and encourage people but having to now figure out two words and figure out what the hell the inkblot is doing to the letters is really pissing me off. I will stop commenting on people who have the word verification too, if this keeps up. You rock, Lucy!

Patchwork and Play said...

Here! Here!!!!! My frustration with it has seen almost stop commenting at all! The sound version- what a joke!! Good for you, Lucy!

Flying Blind... said...

You are so funny - now off to Specsavers with you!

Katy Cameron said...

Yup, totally and utterly frustrating and extremely un-friendly for us dyslexics with that background switch thing on the letters - AAARGH!

Miss Beau Jangles said...

Thank you for the link, have just turned mine off - didn't even realise it was one! How embarassing, after complaining about it on everyone else's blogs, and chuntering away to myself, I discover I am guilty of it too! *scuttles off to hide in shame*

Catherine said...

totally agree-its such a nightmare!

Izzy said...

Turned mine off a few days ago and I'm totally using your button! :-). Thanks Lucy!

Live a Colorful Life said...

I am SO with you on this one. The sentence that says "prove you are not a robot" is insulting! And then they give us two words that you can't even READ! Last week I got one that was unintelligible SYMBOLS that aren't even on my keyboard! Really???!

mammafairy said...

I am also with you! I haven't had spam yet, so I trust it will remain that way!
And aren't you clever to make a button! I am very impressed!

Cherie said...

Gosh I know what you mean. I end up refreshing it about 3 times before I can actually read what the shaded word says.

Jessie @ Messy Jesse said...

woowhoooo I'm free off it! It was driving e mad commenting on peoples blogs! so glad I've got rid of it. Love the button , haha! x

Linda said...

Love it! A couple of days ago, I was trying to follow the darn robot's letters, and it took 4 tries to get it "right"! I know those other tries were right! Stupid robot....lol

quilt happy said...

it is a pain but i am new so i don't know whether i have it or not and wouldn't know how to turn it off if i did. could someone check and let me know?

Linda in Calif. said...

I agree and turned mine off a months ago and have had only one spam. Now that they have changed it to two words I can not figure out the letters to type and it's really a big pain.

Karen Smith said...

Ha. I didn't even know that it was on my blog. I had to look around to find out how to turn it off. :)

Janine said...

Well done for posting this Lucy! I was nearly being driven mad too, as you know!

Kris from DukeSaysSewWhat said...

I turned mine off! Thx for telling me! I've tried to comment on blogs and given up cause I couldn't read the letters!

Great post! I've had mine off for ages and if Blogger turns it on without me knowing - tell me, please!

Thank you for the button. I have never had comment verification on as it drives me nuts so why would I torment others...LOL

Bonjour Tristesse said...

Many thanks to you Lucy for helping to spread the word!

The Sunflower Patch said...

OMG Lucy! I so totally agree with you, never had it on my blog since day one. Also have not gotten spamed (yet). Taking a button ;)

Susan D said...

Thanks for that i have just turned mine off and yes I didn't know it was on and yes I hate it. Hopefully anyone who now visits my site will happily be able to comment. http://crochetaddictcfs.blogspot.com

Judy said...

Thank you!! I HATE word verification.

Michelle said...

I couldn't agree with you more! For a long time, I didn't realize that Blogger would catch almost all of the spam comments. I turned off the word verification months ago and I think only one or two comments at the absolute most have made it through that I'd count as spam.

Thanks for the button and the info. I blogged about it because, man, is word verification a pain in the a*&!

I posted about this earlier today and someone commented that they got a verification free button. So I checked out their blog and it led me to you. Thank you for the button I'm sure others will use it as well.

I blogged about this a day before you did, just found your blog as we are in the scrappy quilting bee together:-)
I soooo grabbed your button and placed it pronto on my blog - thank you - great button!!!

Ha - was wondering what this post was about when I saw the title in the link up! I agree about word verification - it is especially difficult if I try to comment on a post from a device with auto-correct. There have definitely been times when I have written a nice comment and then was unable to actually post it.

Sew Lovins said...

SSSSoooo with you on this...mine is off...never been spammed. thanks for the button:)

I just turned of WV last week. I was afraid I would get tons of spam, but so far, so good. Now that Blogger has changed it {again} to crazy words and blurry numbers, I'm totally disgusted. How does anyone read it well enough to type it at all?

I added your button and shared it too. Thanks for the rant. Hope the "movement" catches on.

H2Ogirl said...

I think you're my hero! I was just to rant about this and now there is a button to go along with it!

Quilter Kathy said...

Thanks Lucy! I love this button and have put it on my blog...I detest the idea of having to prove I'm not a robot every time I visit a blog!

Sharon said...

I totally agree with you! I HATE that stupid word verification thingy too. Sometimes, if I see that a blog has it, I just go away without leaving a comment. It's not worth my time to hassle with it.

Thanks for the button! Maybe more people will catch a clue.

Linda said...

Thank you! Thank you! I've grabbed your button. I hate that Word Verification too and have turned mine off a long time ago.

Hi Lucy, I just tried to add your button, copied the code as I've done for any other buttons I've grabbed...but when I put it on my blog, both on the sidebar and in a post, I don't get the pic, just your blog name underlined as a link....any ideas please?
